This past Thursday and Friday, a number of high school football teams from throughout the state of Florida took to the field for the first time – and no matter what the results were – the objective was to use the things that you worked in during the long off season and apply it to help your team win.

<!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>There is something special about opening night.</p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>No matter what sport it may be, playing that first game of the season is something that is tough describe, and when you do well in that first outing of the season, it sets the bar at a certain level.</p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>This past Thursday and Friday, a number of high school football teams from throughout the state of Florida took to the field for the first time – and no matter what the results were – the objective was to use the things that you worked in during the long off season and apply it to help your team win.</p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>While this is a team game, those individual performances are certainly something that energize the team and of course the fans.</p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>Here is a look at some of those performances from the first week of the season:</p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p><strong>2027 – Trey Alexander, WR/DB, Tampa Robinson. </strong>He racked up 5 catches for 134 yards with 2 touchdowns, also had 5 tackles, 2 pass breakups, and an interception for a touchdown.</p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p><strong>2027 – [player_tooltip player_id='2151694' first='Roger' last='Alfernar'], LB, Boca Raton Spanish River. </strong>Came up with 11 tackles and a QB pressure.</p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p><strong>2027 – Antonio Amato, LB, Naples St. John Neumann. </strong>This Marist University commit opened his senior year with 11 total tackles, 2 tackles for loss, 2 sack and 2 QB Pressures.</p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p><strong>2027 – [player_tooltip player_id='2082830' first='Jayden' last='Ammons'], RB, Winter Garden West Orange. </strong>Finished the first game with 86 yards rushing and 106 through the air.</p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p><strong>2027 – Wes Ammons, QB, Wildwood. </strong>What a way to start off his final season at the high school level – with a 472-yard, 7 rouchdown performance.</p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p><strong>2027 – [player_tooltip player_id='2343721' first='Messiah' last='Borders'], WR, Lakeland Christian. </strong>Finished a huge night with 7 receptions for 142 yards and 3 touchdowns.</p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p><strong>2028 – Colton Brown, WR, Melbourne Central Catholic. </strong>140 yards on 10 receptions, 2 touchdowns.</p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p><strong>2027 - Kellen Cockrell, Athlete, Stuart Martin County. </strong>11 carries for 108 yards and 1 reception for 28 yards.</p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p><strong>2027 – [player_tooltip player_id='1671212' first='Brian' last='Dillard'], Athlete, Orlando Evans.</strong> Despite coming up short, this impressive prospects started his senior year with 10 receptions for 140 yards and a TD. He also had two kick returns, one for a 90-yard score.</p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p><strong>2027 – [player_tooltip player_id='1058482' first='Nick' last='Dyer'], QB, Cooper City. </strong>Starting his final season, he was 12 of 19 for 298 yards and three scores. Scored one rushing touchdown and had two extra points.</p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p><strong>2029 – [player_tooltip player_id='1861817' first='Jakari' last='Faniel'], RB/WR/LB, Winter Haven. </strong>Started his sophomore year out with 16 carries for 207 yards and two catches for 21 yards.</p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p><strong>2028 – Isaac Farling, RB, Mount Dora Christian Academy. </strong>What a night it was for this young man with 358 yards on 25 carries and a school record 6 touchdowns.</p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p><strong>2027 – Steven Flores Jr., MLB, Valrico Bloomingdale.</strong> Already making an impact in the classroom (3.68 GPA), this versatile prospect opened the season with 11 tackles – 5 for loss.</p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p><strong>Fort Myers Dunbar Defense. </strong>Gave up just 60 total yards as <strong>[player_tooltip player_id='1870806' first='Sandler' last='Pierre']</strong> (2027, DL), <strong>Isaih Tyson Eloi</strong> (2029, LB), (2027, <strong>Dylan Ingham</strong>, LB) and <strong>Cloud Dorjuste</strong> (2027, LB) came up big.</p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p><strong>2027 – [player_tooltip player_id='1692879' first='Jayvon' last='Funnye'], Athlete, Winter Park Lake Howell.</strong> Enjoyed a productive opener with three touchdowns on four receptions and 91 yards as the Silverhawks scored 57 points.</p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p><strong>2029 – Cruz Garcia, OL, Orlando Innovation.</strong> Let's hear it for the offensive linemen. This 5'10, 275-pound center came up with 4 Pancake Blocks and dominated all game!</p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p><strong>2029 – Jahamri “J.T” Hammonds, RB, Orlando Edgewater.</strong> One of the best in the class started the 2026 season with 120 yards and a score in the Eagles' win.</p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p><strong>2027 – [player_tooltip player_id='1721109' first='Trenton' last='Huffman'], WR, Sarasota Riverview. </strong>We already know that this senior gets it done in the classroom and on opening night, he made it happen on the football field with 4 receptions for 182 yards and a TD.</p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p><strong>2029 – Tyrese Jefferson, RB, Melbourne. </strong>What a first game it was for this sophomore with 314 yards on 31 carries and 4 touchdowns.</p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p><strong>2027 – [player_tooltip player_id='1868209' first='Bryce' last='Kevance Jones'], DE, Chipley. </strong>Had 1 sack, 1 QB hurry and 5 total tackles.</p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p><strong>2027 – [player_tooltip player_id='1868239' first='Jadence' last='Kennedy'], QB, The Villages. </strong>Threw for 214 yards and 4 touchdowns.</p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p><strong>2029 – Alfonso Llanes, QB, Miami Ransom Everglades.</strong> The youngsters began his sophomore season with 185 total yards and a win.</p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p><strong>2027 – Ruben Lumeus, DT, Immokalee.</strong> Great first game for this senior with 7 tackles, 4 tackles for loss and 1 sack.</p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p><strong>2027 – Lucas Mineok, QB, Kissimmee Poinciana. </strong>Was 13 of 18 for 268 yards and a TD passing, added 24 yards and a TD on the ground.</p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p><strong>2027 – Dante Moretti, QB, Hudson Fivay.</strong> Great beginning to his senior year with 10 completions for 294 yards and 2 passing scores.</p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p><strong>2027 – [player_tooltip player_id='2208471' first='Tristen' last='Neeley'], LB, Venice.</strong> What a way to start his final high school season on the road in Georgia with 13 tackles, 2 tackles for loss and 1 interception in a huge win against Rabun Gap.</p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p><strong>2028 – Ty Nesmith, QB, Tampa Wharton.</strong> This quality student athlete had a banner first week with 224 passing yards, 4 passing touchdowns, 89 rushing yards, 1 running TD, 313 total yards and 5 total TDs.</p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p><strong>2027 – [player_tooltip player_id='1114953' first='Caden' last='Osborn'], QB, Pensacola Booker T. Washington. </strong>Completed 10 passes for 129 yards and 3 touchdowns.</p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p><strong>2028 – Levi Pavlikovic, QB, Wesley Chapel.</strong> It was a great first week for quarterbacks across the Sunshine State and this impressive talent used his first game of his junior season to break a school record with 17 completions for 311 yards passing and 4 touchdowns a rushing score for 5 total TDs!</p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p><strong>2028 – [player_tooltip player_id='1870916' first='Brady' last='Quinn'], QB, Hollywood Chaminade-Madonna. </strong>In a game that was only three quarters, he threw for over 300 yards and 4 touchdowns.</p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p><strong>2029 – [player_tooltip player_id='2206519' first='Wyatt' last='Rapoza'], QB, Green Cove Springs Clay. </strong>This versatile sophomore, who also plays baseball and holds down a 4.0 GPA in the classroom, had three catches for 80 yards on offense, and came up with 11 tackles, 2 tackles for loss, 1 interception and 1 pass break up.</p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p><strong>2028 – [player_tooltip player_id='2152274' first='Braden' last='Simpson'], LB, West Palm Beach The King's Academy.</strong> Made a huge impact as his team moved to 2-0. His 14 tackles and 1 fumble recovery was a difference.</p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p><strong>2028 – [player_tooltip player_id='2326711' first='Dejon' last='Smith'], Athlete. Palm Beach Lakes.</strong> This impressive talent started his junior year with 13 tackles, 1 forced fumble, 2 tackles for loss and 1 pass breakup.</p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p><strong>2028 – Cameron Waddington, QB, Clearwater Countryside.</strong> The 6'2, 180-pounder began the season with 209 yards and 2 scores in a big win.</p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p><strong>2027 – Cody Waters, QB, Boca Raton Olympic Heights. </strong>It's not enough that he holds a 5.05 GPA and 1440 SAT in the classroom, but opening day also saw this talented student/athlete account for an amazing 435 total yards (5 TDs). Passing: 318 yards and 4 TDs on 17 of 27. Rushing: 117 yards, 1 TD on six attempts.</p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p><strong>2028 – [player_tooltip player_id='1592004' first='Caedon' last='White'], RB, Bradenton Manatee. </strong>158 total yards and 1 score.</p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p><strong>2027 – [player_tooltip player_id='2138785' first='Makael' last='Williams'], RB, Pace. </strong>One of the under-the-radar prospects in the state opened his final season with a 19-carry, 228-yard and 4 touchdown contest.</p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p><strong>2027 – Andre Wise Jr., WR, Kissimmee Tohopekaliga. </strong>One of the best in the central Florida area started off the season with a bang!
