The Oregon high school football seasons kicks off Friday, meaning it's time to release our preseason 6A all-state team.

If you missed it, here's a look at the all-state offense.

The all-state defense is loaded with big-time prospects and high-end playmakers, but it is important not remember that all-state teams are different from all-prospect teams.

The focus is on high school production, but college potential.

In many cases, however, those lists overlap.

Here's a look at the Oregon 6A All-State Defense:

Defensive line

DL [player_tooltip player_id='1246545' first='Josh' last='Christensen'], Lake Oswego

DL [player_tooltip player_id='1654734' first='PJ' last='Tautu'], Central Catholic

DL [player_tooltip player_id='2088792' first='Zane' last='Carley'], Tualatin

DL [player_tooltip player_id='937240' first='Isaiah' last='Ormond'], Tualatin

DL [player_tooltip player_id='937281' first='Tripp' last='Johansen'], Willamette

DL [player_tooltip player_id='1569381' first='Levi' last='Klostreich'], Sherwood

Lake Oswego's [player_tooltip player_id='1246545' first='Josh' last='Christensen'], an Oregon commit, is the returning Three Rivers League Defensive Lineman of the Year.

The 6-foot-6, 250-pound lineman was a first-team all-state performer a year ago, and is a near-lock for this honor (barring injuries).

Christensen is one of the top players in the state, regardless of position.

Central Catholic junior [player_tooltip player_id='1654734' first='PJ' last='Tautu'] works out with Christensen, and the two have flourished together.

Tautu was an all-league honoree on both sides of the ball last year, and has made a big leap in strength and his athleticism.

He should have a monster season this fall.

Tualatin's [player_tooltip player_id='2088792' first='Zane' last='Carley'] was a first- team all-league and second-team all-state selection a year ago, and now benefits from a pair of elite defensive tackles, including fellow all-state selection [player_tooltip player_id='937240' first='Isaiah' last='Ormond'], joining the Timberwolves' front.

Carley had 32 tackles, 7 sacks and 30 quarterback hurries a year ago.

I could see significant jump in those numbers given Tualatin's talent infusion this offseason.

Ormond was already one of the top interior linemen in the state, but the 6-foot-3, 300-pounder looks like he's made a significant leap this offseason.

He was practically unblockable at The Northwest Showcase and should give Tualatin arguably the state's best defensive line this fall.

Willamette's [player_tooltip player_id='937281' first='Tripp' last='Johansen'] finished second in the state in sacks a year ago and might be the state's best two-way lineman.

He's a high-motor athlete with elite strength (225 bench 23 times) and has racked up nearly 20 Division I scholarship offers.

Make no mistake, that's not recruiting hype.

He's going to have a massively productive season, learning a Willamette team that is hoping to break through and become one of the state's truly elite high school football programs.

Sherwood's [player_tooltip player_id='1569381' first='Levi' last='Klostreich'] was an honorable mention all-state performer on both sides of the ball a year ago and recently won the lightweight Division Metro Lineman Challenge title, highlighting his rare blend of athleticism and power.

He should make a massive impact for the Bowmen this fall.

Linebacker

LB [player_tooltip player_id='791149' first='Kawai' last='Chamberlin'], Willamette

LB [player_tooltip player_id='937338' first='Cash' last='Wilks'], Lake Oswego

LB [player_tooltip player_id='936846' first='Leonardo' last='Correani'], Lincoln

LB [player_tooltip player_id='1609761' first='Tyler' last='Holmes'], West Linn

An Oregon State commit, [player_tooltip player_id='791149' first='Kawai' last='Chamberlin'] is the favorite for Oregon's Defensive Player of the Year.

Molden is arguably the best corner the state has produced in nearly a decade, but elite corners don't put up big numbers. They simply shut down one side of the field.

Chamberlin will stuff the stat sheet, as he did last season - 118 tackles, 15 tackles-for-loss, 1 sack, 2 interceptions.

Willamette coach Josh Line believes Chamberlin is “bigger, faster and stronger” than he was a year ago.

That could mean scary things for the rest of the state.

Lake Oswego's [player_tooltip player_id='937338' first='Cash' last='Wilks'] was an all-state performer a year ago, and I left him off my midseason all-state list completely - a massive mistake.

Wilks was every bit deserving of his all-state accolades, and will set the tone for the Lakers defense this fall.

Lake Oswego will be reliant on returning stars to elevate to make up for so much graduating talent, but Wilks is more than up to the task on defense.

Lincoln's [player_tooltip player_id='936846' first='Leonardo' last='Correani'] racked up 131 tackles last season, and should, once again, be near the top tackles in the state.

Lincoln has a quality group of athletes across the board, but Correani is the heart of the defense.

West Linn's [player_tooltip player_id='1609761' first='Tyler' last='Holmes'] hit bombs all throughout West Linn's baseball state title run and he's an equally big hitter on defense.

Holmes is a plus cover ‘backer, but can also deliver the boom in the run game.

He's as versatile as any ‘backer in the state, and should make the leap to star status this fall.

Defensive back

DB [player_tooltip player_id='632957' first='Josiah' last='Molden'], West Linn

DB [player_tooltip player_id='937113' first='Shane' last='Peters'], West Linn

DB [player_tooltip player_id='855093' first='Summit' last='Cvitash'], Lake Oswego

DB [player_tooltip player_id='1560665' first='Brevik' last='Hill'], Grants Pass

DB [player_tooltip player_id='1125042' first='Barry' last='Myles'], Sheldon

West Linn's [player_tooltip player_id='632957' first='Josiah' last='Molden'] is back from his torn ACL.

He has been an All-American (for his class) every year of his high school career, so is the closet thing to a lock as it gets on this list.

Molden is a truly special defensive back and has an NFL ceiling.

His teammate, [player_tooltip player_id='937113' first='Shane' last='Peters'], was playing at an all-state level prior to suffering a season-ending injury as well.

He should return to that level of play, giving the Lions a pair of elite defensive backs.

Lake Oswego's [player_tooltip player_id='855093' first='Summit' last='Cvitash'] is a rangy 6-foot-1, 195-pound defensive back who has led his team in interceptions the last two years.

The first-team all-league selection should make the leap to all-state status as a senior.

Grants Pass athlete [player_tooltip player_id='1560665' first='Brevik' last='Hill'] was the conference player of the year on offense and a first-team all-league selection on defense.

He has a relentless motor and is a true tone-setter for his program.

Sheldon athlete [player_tooltip player_id='1125042' first='Barry' last='Myles'] is a 6-foot-3, 180-pound versatile athlete who has helped Sheldon battle through the loss of so many transfers.

Myles is headed to Eastern Washington and projects as a multi-year starter, and potential impact player, at the collegiate level.

The Oregon high school football seasons kicks off Friday, meaning it's time to release our preseason 6A all-state team.
