Four Monday Games That Could Change the Picture in the 252

Four Monday Games That Could Change the Picture in the 252

While many of the games have been played already in the 252, several games got moved due to possible inclement weather. While the teams playing may not be the top teams, how they finish in these games could begin to shake things up.

South Lenoir at North Lenoir

South is coming off of a a convincing 42-6 win over Jones Senior in week one, and the Blue Devils hope to continue that production in week two. They had over 350 rushing yards and all six touchdowns came on the ground, as Jayden Jones led the charge with 11 carries for 146 yards and two touchdowns. On just five carries, [player_tooltip player_id='2221518' first='Michael' last='Jones'] scored two touchdowns and added 103 yards rushing. Quarterback Chris Wooten 8 carries for 56 yards and two touchdowns, and went 2/5 passing with 41 yards.

North dropped week one against Greene Central 49-20, but [player_tooltip player_id='2346485' first='Jaylen' last='Wooten'] had a monster performance in the game. The junior tailback ran for 274 yards in the game on 21 carries, averaging 13 yards per carry. He also added two rushing touchdowns. Freshman quarterback Connor Bryant threw his first career touchdown on 5/14 passing, but also threw his first career interception. Will the Hawks soar to victory this week, or will the Blue Devils come out 2-0?

Southside vs North Edgecombe

Southside dropped their week one game to North Duplin, 28-17. The Seahawks may have found who they can lean on moving forward, in senior playmaker Devonelle Brimage. He ran for a team-leading 108 yards on just seven carries, with a long of 55 yards, and he also scored the only offensive touchdown. Sophomore Jaheim Moore had a rough game at quarterback, completing only four passes, while throwing three interceptions. If the Seahawks lean into Brimage, they could soar.

North Edgecombe won their opener 20-8. Four players accounted for 193 yards and three touchdowns in the game. They also went 3/9 passing, with 66 yards, but did throw an interception in the game. Will they be able to go 2-0 this week?

Jones Senior at Columbia

Jones Senior is coming off of a week one performance they would likely prefer to forget about. South Lenoir took them to the woodshed with a 42-6 defeat of the Trojans. The two quarterbacks combined to go 4/9 for 39 yards and two interceptions in the game. The lone bright spot was senior Isaiah Meadows, who broke off a 35-yard run, and had 40 yards total on three carries. Senior safety Brady Woolard had 10 tackles, with one for a loss and a pass breakup. If the Trojans can lean into those two, they may have something.

Columbia is playing their first game of the season, but they have a new head football coach in Ron'Dayle Floyd. Floyd has been a critical part of the success at Martin County High School, as he was the head coach for many years at the feeder program. He brought his son with him, who is a 6'3 175 junior wideout and safety. The Wildcats seem to have rallied around him and the culture is driving up. Will the 'Cats get their first win in his first game, or will the Trojans spoil it to pick up their first win since September 13, 2024?

Washington County vs Rocky Mount Prep

Washington is coming off a week one loss to Manteo, but the bright side of the loss is that they were able to score 22 points in the 36-22 loss. On a positive note, they did hold an 8-6 lead at one point in the game, so they have been in the driver's seat some this year. Will they be able to build upon that fact, or will it not be enough for the Vikings?

RMP dropped their week one game, 14-6 to St. Davids. The Warriors took advantage of the two interceptions RMP's Ahmier Eason threw, turning them both into the touchdowns that decided the game. RMP was able to rush for 6.2 yards per carry in the game for 148 yards. They may want to lean into the run game and less on the pass game to ensure ball security. Will they be able to hold off the Wildcats?

While many of the games have been played already in the 252, several games got moved due to possible inclement weather. While the teams playing may not be the top teams, how they finish in these games could begin to shake things up.
