The opening week of the 2026 Ohio high school football season produced record-setting performances and explosive plays throughout Northwest Ohio.

Some established seniors immediately reclaimed the spotlight, while several younger prospects showed why their recruitment could grow over the next few seasons. Here are five players who delivered standout performances and deserve continued attention.

[player_tooltip player_id='1631427' first='Jeremiah' last='Fuller'], RB, Toledo Central Catholic — 2027

Central Catholic leaned on [player_tooltip player_id='1631427' first='Jeremiah' last='Fuller'] to establish its offense during a convincing 27-9 victory over Trotwood-Madison.

The senior running back finished with 118 yards, highlighted by an 88-yard touchdown that helped the Fighting Irish build a commanding lead. Fuller displayed the acceleration to get through the first level and completely separated once he reached open space.

His explosiveness is only one part of his game. Fuller runs with good balance, keeps his feet moving through contact, and can make defenders miss without wasting steps behind the line of scrimmage. He also adds value as a receiver and return specialist, giving Central Catholic multiple ways to create favorable matchups.

Fuller entered the season following a first-team All-Ohio junior campaign in which he produced more than 1,600 all-purpose yards and scored 29 touchdowns. His recruitment includes offers from Bowling Green, Eastern Michigan, Miami (Ohio), and Western Michigan.

After Central Catholic lost several major contributors from last year's state runner-up team, Fuller appears ready to become the centerpiece of the offense.

[player_tooltip player_id='2128487' first='Brayden' last='Luidhardt'], QB, Eastwood — 2028

[player_tooltip player_id='2128487' first='Brayden' last='Luidhardt'] could not have scripted a much better beginning to his first season as Eastwood's starting quarterback.

The 6-foot-3 junior completed 27 of 35 attempts for 274 yards and three touchdowns during the Eagles' 28-20 victory over Kenton. His 27 completions established a new Eastwood single-game record.

Luidhardt played wide receiver last season and already understood the passing game from a different perspective before moving behind center. That experience shows in his timing, anticipation, and willingness to distribute the football rather than lock onto a single target.

He remained composed throughout the opener, protected the football, and consistently gave his receivers opportunities to make plays after the catch. His size also allows him to see the field and deliver passes from inside a crowded pocket.

Luidhardt is a multi-sport athlete whose basketball background is evident in his movement skills and overall coordination. With Eastwood returning several experienced offensive players, his opening performance could be the beginning of a breakout season.

[player_tooltip player_id='1968839' first='Cam' last='Schumaker'], WR/DB, Eastwood — 2027

While Luidhardt directed Eastwood's passing attack, senior receiver [player_tooltip player_id='1968839' first='Cam' last='Schumaker'] emerged as his most dependable target.

Schumaker caught 13 passes for 155 yards and two touchdowns, setting the school record for receptions in a game. He consistently found space, worked back toward his quarterback, and provided a reliable option whenever Eastwood needed to move the chains.

At 5-foot-11 and approximately 170 pounds, Schumaker does not depend on overwhelming size. He wins with route awareness, concentration, and the toughness to operate between defenders. His ability to adjust to the football also helps him complete catches when the ball arrives outside his frame.

Schumaker is a three-sport athlete who also contributes in the secondary. That versatility, combined with a reported 4.0 GPA, gives college programs plenty to evaluate beyond his receiving production.

After a record-setting opener, Schumaker should remain one of the most productive receivers in the Northern Buckeye Conference.

[player_tooltip player_id='2107316' first='Carter' last='Born'], QB, Whitmer — 2028

[player_tooltip player_id='2107316' first='Carter' last='Born'] helped Whitmer take control immediately during its 42-23 victory over Reynoldsburg.

The junior completed nine of 17 passes for 173 yards and four touchdowns, including three scoring passes during the first quarter. His ability to capitalize on opportunities allowed the Panthers to build an early advantage and force Reynoldsburg to play from behind.

Born is listed at around 6 feet and 175 pounds and brings legitimate athleticism to the position. He can operate from the pocket, extend plays when protection breaks down, and threaten a defense with his legs.

As a sophomore, Born completed 69 percent of his passes for 1,530 yards and 13 touchdowns. That experience was apparent in the opener, particularly in his decisiveness around the goal line and his ability to find different receivers.

Born may not possess prototypical quarterback size, but his production, athletic profile, and reported 4.0 GPA make him an interesting prospect. If he continues creating touchdowns at this rate, his recruitment should begin gaining momentum.

Titus Richardson, WR, Whitmer — 2028

Titus Richardson made the most of his opportunities during Whitmer's season-opening victory.

The junior receiver caught three passes for 70 yards and two touchdowns, including an acrobatic scoring reception that demonstrated his body control and ability to finish through tight coverage.

Richardson's production went beyond the number of receptions. Averaging more than 23 yards per catch, he gave Whitmer an explosive element and punished Reynoldsburg when the secondary lost leverage.

His chemistry with Born could become one of the most important parts of the Panthers' offense. Born is willing to give Richardson opportunities downfield, while Richardson has shown he can track the football and make difficult adjustments near the boundary or in the end zone.

Whitmer has several capable offensive weapons, which could prevent defenses from consistently rolling coverage toward Richardson. That should create more one-on-one chances for a receiver who has already demonstrated big-play potential.

The opening performance established Richardson as a name worth monitoring throughout the 2026 season.

The opening week of the 2026 Ohio high school football season produced record-setting performances and explosive plays throughout Northwest Ohio.
