Preview season rolls on here at Prep Redzone, and we plan to preview a few more teams in 2026. The Community School of Davidson Spartans have a new coach, some new players, but high expectations. With a new core, what can the Spartans do in 2026?

Key Storyline

While transfers have been a big story across the state, especially in Charlotte, it has affected the Catawba Shores Conference more than most. Primarily composed of charter schools, the Catawba Shores Conference has a ton of incoming and outgoing transfers. Community School is no exception.

They'll lose their leading rusher to a transfer back to his zoned school, while the team's second-leading tackler followed last year's staff to Topsail. There wasn't a mass exodus, but there's enough movement in and out of the program to warrant monitoring.

The Spartans will rely heavily on their senior quarterback in 2027. A two-year starter at Hopewell and then CSD, Sigler took a massive step forward last season, throwing for over 2,600 yards and 26 touchdowns. He's poised, accurate, and the leader of a team that will lose some key pieces.

Worley is a big, talented offensive tackle who is committed to Davidson. He's a smart, athletic lineman who will anchor what should be a talented group on offense. He's a mauler in the running game, which will help offset the Spartans' lack of proven production at the running back position.

Rasmussen led the Spartans in tackling last season, racking up 84 tackles and six sacks for the defense. He thrived on splash plays, scoring two defensive touchdowns last year, forcing four fumbles and recovering three more. He's going to be a leader for the defense this season.

Biggest Losses

Zack Albert | LB- Albert was the second-leading tackler for the Spartans last year. He followed his dad to Topsail, leaving a hole in the linebacking corps.

Nixon Willis | RB- Willis transferred back to his zoned school this offseason after leading the Spartans in rushing last year.

Tyler Johnson | Ath.- Johnson can fly and lined up all over, taking snaps at quarterback and running back, while leading the Spartans in receiving last season with over 1,000 yards. Look for rising senior Silas Brister to fill that role.

Specialists rarely find their way onto these lists, but Cairniero looks like one of the top kickers in the state. A standout soccer player, Carniero has a massive leg and multiple offers to his name. Last year, he was only really used for longer field goals, hitting a 49-yarder. He's an impressive athlete for the position, so you could occasionally see him run a fake.

Brister comes over to CSD from Hopewell, where he flashed versatility and big-play potential. The Spartans will likely move him around the offense to create mismatches. He can win before or after the catch, so expect him to get plenty of offensive touches.

Browning was a small contributor last season, but he's added weight this offseason and should be a key piece on offense. He had seven catches last season to go along with 13 tackles. We like the way he moves, and he should be able to create space before the catch. Don't be surprised if he and Sigler form a strong connection.

Community School of Davidson's 2026 Outlook

Team Strength

While they lose some top offensive weapons, the Spartans have one of the best quarterbacks in the state, especially at the 2A level. Sigler gives them a high floor, and also the ability to beat anyone on the schedule. He should have some receiving help, so the offense should have no problem moving the ball.

Question Marks

At the same time, there are few established running backs on the roster. While I think the Spartans should be able to run the ball, that's still an unknown. If they struggle in that department, it puts plenty of pressure on the defense to play at a consistently high level.

The Verdict

Community School of Davidson seems to be in a good spot, but there are plenty of unknowns heading into the 2026 season. We should have a better idea of where the Spartans sit in a wide-open Catawba Shores Conference.

They're not the most experienced team, especially at wide receiver and on the lines, but the talent they do get back is excellent. That probably gives the Spartans a high floor. While I think they're a better-than-average contender with a wide range of possible outcomes, I think it's far more likely that they exceed expectations than that the bottom falls out.

A huge thanks to CSD head coach Kenneth McClamrock for sharing his prospect sheet and thoughts on his team.
