Smith had an outstanding summer so it's no surprise he won the quarterback battle at the storied West Catholic. He was able to slice up the defense both through the air and the ground. He attacked the middle of the field and both sidelines with intermediate throws and downfield balls. He executed from the pocket with pressure in his face while also being on time with the ball when rolling out. Will finished 13 for 16 for 217 yards and 2 TDs, one of them rushing, in what I like to call a near perfect varsity debut performance.

I am going to call him Mr. Bennett cause he looked like a man amongst boys week 1. He looked almost unstoppable and could not be blocked at the DE position. With Ryans build and motor, he eats up so much space right at the snap of the ball. With his strength and athleticism also comes his IQ. He did a great job of not rushing too far up field on fakes but instead keeping perfect gap integrity striking when the time was right. His technique was also on point as he did a great job fighting with nice hand placement and shedding blocks like nothing. Ryan ended with 3 sacks, 2 TFLs and 2 solo tackles in only ONE HALF of the football game!

Dominic is a kid I got to see operate multiple times over the summer, so I was eager to see what he'd look like in a varsity setting. He was heavily involved from the jump. Roaming the middle of the field and high pointing the ball for an interception in the endzone on the first possession. From his free safety position he showed his coverage skills and the ability to run the alley and lend a hand to stopping the run. He ended his debut performance with 6 tackles and an interception.

Ryan was playing with his hair on fire from the first whistle. When you turn on his week 1 tape the first couple things that jump out at you is his motor and IQ! He caused havoc all night timing up his blitzes perfectly for sacks and TFLs. I was really impressed with two major things, how he trusted his eyes, reading pulling guards and meeting ball carriers in the hole before they got there. Also, his ability so sift and fight his way through traffic, and finish off the ball carrier. He finished his opening game with 10 tackles.
