Calhoun County finally showed some signs of progress in 2025, winning three games, its highest win total since 2015. It was a major step forward for fourth-year head coach Jeff Goodrich after the Red Devils went winless during his first two seasons. The roster was extremely young last year with no seniors, giving Calhoun County plenty of optimism heading into 2026. That outlook took a hit when two of the team's top players transferred out, including the starting quarterback, but the Red Devils still have a quality young group to build around.

2027 Calhoun County FB/LB [player_tooltip player_id='2341208' first='Rome' last='Riddel'] will be one of the Red Devils' most important leaders on both sides of the ball this season. Riddel led the team with 105 tackles as a junior and brings a physical edge to both sides of the ball that makes him a force. He's a tough downhill player behind his 5'7 195 frame, and he'll take on an important fullback role as Calhoun County transitions to a wing offense in 2026. Riddel is the type of player who sets the tone with his physicality, and his leadership as a captain will be especially important for a young Red Devils roster.

He's a smaller athlete, but his quickness and speed allow him to create separation offensively and close quickly in the secondary. While Gilmer County remains a smaller program, there is experience and athleticism spread throughout the roster, along with more size up front than they've had in recent years. That combination gives the Titans a solid foundation to build on heading into 2026.

2028 Ritchie County WR/DB [player_tooltip player_id='1624373' first='Jenner' last='Keen'] gave the Rebels a productive sophomore season, hauling in 44 passes for 616 yards and seven touchdowns. He added 21 tackles and an interception on defense, showing the playmaking ability and athleticism to make an impact on both sides of the ball. Keen is a smaller player, but he plays with plenty of speed. Another year of physical development and varsity experience could make Keen an even more productive player as a junior.

The departure of graduated seniors Carter Satterfield and Turner Shriver opens the door for 2028 Ritchie County RB [player_tooltip player_id='1624350' first='Isaiah' last='Poole'] to take on a much larger workload this season. Poole finished third on the team in rushing as a sophomore with nearly 500 yards and four touchdowns while averaging 6.3 yards per carry. He showed efficiency with his opportunities last year, and more touches should give him a chance to turn that production into a potential breakout candidate for the Rebels as a junior.

2029 Ritchie County LB [player_tooltip player_id='2079514' first='Ashton' last='Byrd'] had an impressive freshman season with 80 tackles and 10 tackles for loss, establishing himself as one of the top young defenders in Class A. Byrd plays with a high motor and good instincts, consistently getting downhill and finding the football before plays develop. He saw some snaps along the defensive line, but his skill set fits naturally at linebacker, where his ability to pursue and finish tackles stands out. Byrd has already shown a knack for consistently being around the ball, and adding more size and developing over the next three years could turn him into a future college prospect

Webster County went through some growing pains in 2025, finishing 2-8 after winning five games the year before. The Highlanders were a young team last season, but that experience is starting to pay off with a large junior class that has seen significant varsity action since its freshman year. There were only a few seniors on last year's team, so a lot of that young core is back with another season of experience. With another strong freshman class coming behind them, Webster County is building a foundation that could lead to some good years ahead.

Coming off a productive season in his return to the program, 2027 Webster County RB/LB [player_tooltip player_id='862717' first='Eli' last='Amos'] is poised for another big year as a senior. Amos led the Highlanders with 635 rushing yards and three touchdowns while also piling up 85 tackles and six tackles for loss on defense. He runs with patience and vision, showing the quickness to find creases and make defenders miss in space, while that same burst allows him to close quickly and make plays defensively. Amos is one of Webster County's top players to know and expect a big senior year from him.

2028 Webster County QB [player_tooltip player_id='1624346' first='Isaiah' last='Cutlip'] has emerged as one of the more intriguing young quarterbacks in the state and currently ranks as the #7 QB in the class. Cutlip brings a 6'3 185 frame and shows natural tools at the position, giving him plenty of upside as he continues to develop. The level of competition from the Class A level makes it difficult to truly evaluate quarterbacks from only film, but Cutlip's ability still stands out when you watch him and focus on the traits and upside he brings to the position. He's a talented young quarterback with a high ceiling, and the next two seasons should tell us just how far he can take his game.

Wright finished with 455 rushing yards and three touchdowns while adding 428 receiving yards and five more scores, finishing with 1,200 all-purpose yards. He also contributed 82 tackles on defense and 352 return yards, proving to be a complete player as a sophomore. Wright is a key returning weapon for Webster County and should be even more dangerous as a junior with another year of experience and offseason in the weight room.

2028 Webster County OL/LB [player_tooltip player_id='2341368' first='Hunter' last='Skidmore'] was the Highlanders' leading tackler as a sophomore, finishing with 94 stops, and was a leader of the defense as an underclassman. Skidmore plays with a physical edge and has a knack for finding the football, making him a force at the second level of the defense. His 5'8 180 frame gives him a compact, sturdy build that fits the way he plays, and he'll also return as a starter along the offensive line. With two more years of varsity football ahead of him, Skidmore will be a good building block for the Webster County program.
