PRZVA Team Preview: Gainesville Cardinals

<p><strong>Last years Finish: </strong>2-8</p>   <p><strong>Head Coach:</strong> Tre Cage 2nd season</p>   <p>Gainesville had a setback last year after reaching the playoffs after reaching the playoffs the prior two seasons, the Cardinals 2025 campaign did not go as planned. Numerous factors were in play but Coach Cage returns a ton of talent and they seem poised for a rebound. Gainesville is still new to the high school football landscape as this is only their 5th season as a program. 2 of their first 4 seasons the Cardinals reached the playoffs which is impressive enough when you think about it. Coach Cage and his team want more, they have a lot of high caliber starters returning, sprinkled in with some newcomers that look college bound already.</p>   <h2 class="wp-block-heading">Key Returnees: [player_tooltip player_id='482986' first='Jackson' last='Wrobel'], [player_tooltip player_id='1665216' first='Blake' last='Sloan'], [player_tooltip player_id='1311693' first='Amari' last='Ruth'], [player_tooltip player_id='1014894' first='Sylar' last='Pena'], [player_tooltip player_id='1692026' first='Ryan' last='Kohlmeyer'], [player_tooltip player_id='2053358' first='Jayden' last='Taylor']</h2>    <p class="text-gray-700">Sloan is beast at linebacker and tight end for the Cardinals, he currently ranks 80th overall in our 2028 class. We had to chance to watch him shine at our winter showcase and he more than passes the eye test. Blake was a second team all district selection as a sophomore and is developing into an elite pass catcher.</p>   <p>Defensively he moves so well, I watched him lock up a few running backs at our showcase and he gets after the quarterback a bit too. He had 4 sacks last season and should command double teams in 2026, Sloan is an early offer candidate.</p>   <figure class="wp-block-embed is-type-rich is-provider-x wp-block-embed-x"><div class="wp-block-embed__wrapper"> https://twitter.com/BlakeSloan44/status/2026442587704271056?s=20 </div></figure>     <p class="text-gray-700">Bumped up in overall 2027 class rankings as [player_tooltip player_id='482986' first='Jackson' last='Wrobel'] took a leap during his junior season. A leap that has him attracting a number of college suitors as he had 86 tackles to go along 12 pass break ups. His coverage skills are what tend to stand out the most as he is athletic enough to play outside linebacker or safety. </p>   <figure class="wp-block-embed is-type-rich is-provider-x wp-block-embed-x"><div class="wp-block-embed__wrapper"> https://twitter.com/WrobelJackson/status/2019205335848829154?s=20 </div></figure>     <p class="text-gray-700">A potential burner at running back is junior [player_tooltip player_id='2053358' first='Jayden' last='Taylor'] who excelled for them in a limited role there but did great things as the Cardinals Kickoff returner. Taylor is a part of what appears to be a very talented 2028 class for Coach Cage. He will be counted on, like a lot of juniors to step into a bigger role this fall. </p>     <p class="text-gray-700">A shifty playmaker [player_tooltip player_id='1311693' first='Amari' last='Ruth'] is ready to be the Cardinals main weapon on offense. Last year he made plays at running back, slot receiver and kick returner. One of the more dynamic athletes in the county, Ruth is also a track star for Gainesville. I would expect him to be their lead back but they could line him up on the outside as their appears to be a big of a logjam in this position group. </p>   <figure class="wp-block-embed is-type-rich is-provider-x wp-block-embed-x"><div class="wp-block-embed__wrapper"> https://twitter.com/ruth_amari/status/1972324539603554721?s=20 </div></figure>     <p class="text-gray-700">Case in point [player_tooltip player_id='1014894' first='Sylar' last='Pena'] has been a star for a minute and he low key kind of crushed it when give the opportunities. Averaging nearly 5 yards per carry Pena had 4 rushing touchdowns as a sophomore. He is a patient/explosive back that can also make defenders look silly at receiver. </p>   <figure class="wp-block-embed is-type-rich is-provider-x wp-block-embed-x"><div class="wp-block-embed__wrapper"> https://twitter.com/PenaSylar36987/status/1987703376419717286?s=20 </div></figure>     <p class="text-gray-700">In the programs short existence Gainesville tends to churn out big time linemen and from their 2028 class, [player_tooltip player_id='1692026' first='Ryan' last='Kohlmeyer'] looks to be next in line. He is now 6'0 and 220 lbs.., starting as a sophomore, Kohlmeyer nows how to set the edge on defense. Between him and [player_tooltip player_id='1665216' first='Blake' last='Sloan'] on the other side this could turn into a very formidable pass rush. </p>   <figure class="wp-block-embed is-type-rich is-provider-x wp-block-embed-x"><div class="wp-block-embed__wrapper"> https://twitter.com/Ryan_K8611/status/1992385360882729406?s=20 </div></figure>    <p><strong>Key Newcomers:</strong> [player_tooltip player_id='2145791' first='Aaron' last='Sarpong'], Tre Cage, [player_tooltip player_id='1430309' first='Caleb' last='Van Acker']</p>    <p class="text-gray-700">Previously a basketball standout for the Cardinals, [player_tooltip player_id='2145791' first='Aaron' last='Sarpong'] is transition to the pigskin and the move already appears to be paying off. He came onto the scene late in his junior season and really hasn't looked back, Sarpong is a 6'4 receiver/corner with multiple division 1 offers. He has been one of the best athletes at all the showcases I have attended, always making sure to stand out.
