Plainview Indians OK 2026 Team Preview

This is something that began for us at PRZ-Oklahoma in 2021 and it continues to get bigger and better every single year. He took over a Plainview program that had the same head coach for a decade and won over 80 games. Pratt came over from Idabel and the Indians got off to a really strong start in 2025. They began 5-1, with the only loss coming to Davis in overtime. They were undefeated in district play, heading into a week seven showdown with 3A powerhouse Heritage Hall and they came up short, losing 38-28 to the Chargers. The Indians bounced back with two straight wins but then had a tough setback in week ten, losing 30-26 to Kingfisher. They still finished second in the district and hosted Perkins-Tryon in the first round. That was not a typical three-seed and the Demons played like it, beating Plainview 48-14 to end their season at 7-4. Plainview had the season come to an end in the first round for the second straight season. But as the calendar turns to 2026 and we get ready to kick off a new season, there is a lot to be excited about heading into this fall. Plainview played a lot of underclassmen last season and with that, brings experience into a new season. The 2025 group went through some growing pains but that should benefit them heading into a new season. And when it comes to Class 3A, things are looking a little different than what we've become accustomed to over the last several years.</p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph {"fontSize":"medium"} --> <p class="has-medium-font-size"><strong>2026 OUTLOOK</strong></p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>Plainview comes into the 2026 season as a top ten team and they expect to be a contender this season with the majority of their starters returning from last year's team. The Indians have eight starters back on the offensive side of the ball, with the majority of their skill talent and offensive line returning. Right now, they have a battle going on to figure out who is going to be QB1 for the Indians this fall. Whoever ends up winning that job is going to have a wealth of skill talent around him and he's going to have to just manage the game, put the ball in his playmaker's hands and let them go to work. This was an offense that averaged around 35 points per game last season and we think they can hit that number again. Defensively, the Indians also bring back eight starters from last year's team. They will need to reload in a few key places but we really like some of the talent they bring back at linebacker and then in the secondary. Plainview is going to have the potential to be one of the better defensive units in Class 3A if those new pieces gel with some of the returning starters they have back this fall. We mentioned Class 3A looks different. It starts with Plainview's district as some of 2A-1's best teams from last season are now in Plainview's district and in Class 3A as a whole. There will be a new state champion crowned as Lincoln Christian has dropped down to 2A-1. It was pretty apparent, even then, that Coursey was going to be a prospect to know in the state's 2028 class. As he's gotten bigger and maintained that overall athletic ability and versatility, he's emerged as one of the better prospects in this class. What's crazy is Coursey is still flying under the radar. We think this could be a big breakout season for Coursey on either side of the ball. Offensively, he's going to be the top target in the passing game. He'll be a three-year starter on the offensive line and is one piece of Plainview bringing back the majority of their offensive linemen. Plainview is still figuring out who their quarterback is going to be this season. Having an experienced guy leading the way on an offensive line like Eads is going to certainly help whoever the quarterback ends up being. Now, Eads will also start for Plainview on the defensive side of the ball. Barrett is also a prospect that we're going to buy stock in based on the bloodlines alone. He has family members that have been incredibly productive at Sulphur and Washington and should be a name to know moving forward. Last season, Barrett got on our radar and we're fired up to see what he does in 2026. As a freshman, Barrett was known mostly for what he did on the defensive side of the ball. While there is no doubt that Plainview is going to have some of the more talented underclassmen to watch this season, it would be a mistake to overlook this senior. Smith will be moved around on the offensive side of the ball. He can produce as a running back and be moved around to wide receiver and wherever else the Indians need him. Defensively, he provides depth and that same versatility in the secondary. He was one of the better prospects at our PRZ-Next showcase and nothing has changed a few years later. When we caught Plainview in person back in the spring, Frankum was one of the better players in attendance that featured eight or nine other schools. It didn't matter if it was on offense as a running back who looked like he was shot out of a cannon or if he was on defense, playing like a head-hunting safety. Frankum is going to go into the 2026 season as one of the better two-way players in Class 3A this fall. </p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- /wp:acf/evaluation-block --> <!-- wp:paragraph {"fontSize":"medium"} --> <p class="has-medium-font-size"><strong>MORE NAMES TO KNOW</strong></p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>Brock Chambers - 2027 Offensive/Defensive Lineman<br>Brookes Neal - 2030 Quarterback<br>Chase Howell - 2027 Offensive/Defensive Lineman<br>[player_tooltip player_id='1830096' first='[player_tooltip player_id='1229527' first='Colt' last='']' last='Blackwood'] - 2028 Offensive/Defensive Lineman<br>Eli Brown - 2027 Linebacker<br>[player_tooltip player_id='1832785' first='James' last='Goodman'] - 2028 Offensive Lineman<br>[player_tooltip player_id='1828125' first='Jonathan' last='Spears'] - 2028 Quarterback<br>[player_tooltip player_id='1834270' first='Kingsley' last='Manion'] - 2029 Linebacker<br>[player_tooltip player_id='1839020' first='Luke' last='McLemore'] - 2028 Defensive Lineman<br>Mikey Heller - 2030 Defensive Back<br>Paxton Behrens - 2029 Linebacker</p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph {"fontSize":"medium"} --> <p class="has-medium-font-size"><strong>2026 SCHEDULE</strong></p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p><strong>&nbsp;Aug. 28th - Lone Grove</strong><br>- The 2026 season kicks off with a week zero game against Lone Grove. These two teams have played every year since 2014 and they've met in district and most recently in non-district play. The Indians won 19-6 last season and it was their second straight win and the third victory over the Longhorns in the last four meetings.&nbsp;<br><strong>Sept. 11th - AT Holdenville</strong><br>- Plainview goes on the road for the first time this fall when they face Holdenville in week two. The Wolverines are going to be one of the top teams in Class 2A-2 this season. They operate a run-first offense and bring back the majority of their starters from last season. This will be the first meeting between these two programs.&nbsp;<br><strong>Sept. 18th - AT Davis&nbsp;</strong><br>- The non-district slate will wrap up with another road game against one of 2A-2's best teams. They'll face preseason number one-ranked Davis in week three. After not playing for 15 years, these two teams started squaring off in 2024. Plainview won that first meeting in ‘24 but Davis won an overtime thriller last season.&nbsp;<br><strong>Sept. 25th - Purcell</strong><br>- Plainview begins their gauntlet of a district schedule with a home game against Purcell in week four. These two remain district opponents and that has been the case off and on for the last two decades. The Indians have had a lot of success in this series. They won 42-21 last season and it was their seventh straight win in the series.<br><strong>Oct. 2nd - AT Mount St. Mary</strong><br>- The first major district test comes here in week five when Plainview heads up to the southside of Oklahoma City to face Mount St. Mary. The Rockets are the first of several playoff teams from 2A-1 that are now in 3A. This will be the first meeting between these two teams and the Rockets bring back everyone from last year's playoff team.<br><strong>Oct. 9th - Kingfisher</strong><br>- Plainview hosts Kingfisher in week six as the Yellowjackets remain on the district slate for the Indians. These two started squaring off in district play in 2024 and this series has been incredibly close over the last few seasons. Plainview won 15-13 in their 2024 meeting while Kingfisher edged the Indians 30-26 last year.&nbsp;<br><strong>Oct. 15th - AT McLoud</strong><br>- On a Fall Break Thursday night in week seven, Plainview will go back on the road to face McLoud. This is another new district opponent for the Indians. The only time these two teams met on the gridiron was back in the 2020 playoffs. Plainview took care of business, winning 41-6 over the Redskins in the first round.&nbsp;<br><strong>Oct. 23rd - AT North Rock Creek</strong><br>- The Indians have another road game in week eight, as they'll face North Rock Creek for the third straight season. Plainview will be looking for their third straight win in this series. The last two games have been incredibly close. They first met in district play in 2024 and those two games were decided by a total of four points.<br><strong>Oct. 30th - Oklahoma Christian School</strong><br>- This week nine game against OCS begins a two-week stretch that can make or break Plainview's season. It will feel like the playoffs have started a couple weeks early as they face an OCS squad that is coming up from Class 2A-1 but expects to have an immediate impact. This will be the first meeting between these two teams.&nbsp;<br><strong>Nov. 6th - Marlow</strong><br>- The regular season wraps up with another match-up against a team up from 2A-1 but this one will be familiar. Marlow is back up in Class 3A. These two teams have been district opponents off and on for the last two decades. They met in 2022 and 2023 and split that series. Both of these teams come into this year as top ten teams.</p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph {"fontSize":"medium"} --> <p class="has-medium-font-size"><strong>NOTABLE</strong></p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>Class 3A looks completely different this season with new teams coming up from 2A-1 and three-time defending champion Lincoln Christian dropping down to 2A-1. Like we mentioned earlier, Plainview now finds themselves in a district where there will most certainly be at least one (maybe two) good football teams that are sitting at home in the playoffs. Marlow, Mount St. Mary and Oklahoma Christian all come up from 2A-1, where they were successful last season. Kingfisher was a quarterfinal team in 3A last season. North Rock Creek is a program on the rise. This district is absolutely stacked and for the Indians, it will feel like the playoffs have started early about halfway through October. Because if they lose the wrong game, they are going to be sitting at home when the playoffs kick off in November. Plainview has made it to the playoffs in each of the last two seasons but they are determined to make it back to the playoffs and then go on a run. There will be a new state champion in Class 3A this season.
