Mid-Carolina 4A/5A/6A Preview: Southern Alamance

Southern Alamance battled through one of the toughest schedules in the conference last season, and that experience paid off when the playoffs arrived. The Patriots made an impressive postseason run before falling just short in a thrilling 31-30 loss to eventual 6A runner-up Middle Creek High School. Competing against elite competition throughout the regular season prepared them for the postseason, and that battle-tested mentality should carry over into this fall.   The outlook is bright for Southern Alamance as they return a large portion of their offensive production. With experienced playmakers back at the skill positions and continuity on that side of the ball, the Patriots have all the ingredients to make another deep playoff push. If the defense can continue to develop and complement an explosive offense, Southern Alamance has the talent and experience to once again be one of the top contenders in the conference. The rising sophomore rushed for well over 1,000 yards and scored 14 touchdowns last season, showcasing an explosive combination of speed, vision, and playmaking ability. Thompson has the ability to take any carry the distance, making him one of the most dangerous young offensive weapons in the region. With another year of development, he has the potential to establish himself as one of the top running back prospects in North Carolina.     [player_tooltip player_id='2263072' first='Tustin' last='Johnson'] is a true dual-threat quarterback who can impact the game with both his arm and his legs. The rising senior relied more heavily on his rushing ability last season, but he should operate a more balanced attack this fall. After accounting for 13 total touchdowns a year ago, Johnson has the experience and playmaking ability to surpass 20 scores and put together a breakout senior season.     CJ McAdoo is one of the top playmakers in the secondary and a true two-way athlete, but his biggest impact came on the defensive side of the ball last season. The rising senior recorded four interceptions, consistently making game-changing plays and giving opposing quarterbacks very little room for error. With his instincts, ball skills, and physical style of play, McAdoo is one of the leaders of the defense and a player offenses must account for every snap.     [player_tooltip player_id='2080429' first='Jayden' last='Brown'] saw most of his impact come on the defensive side of the ball last season, where the rising senior emerged as one of the team's top defensive backs. Brown recorded three interceptions, showcasing his instincts, ball skills, and ability to create turnovers. While he also provides depth at running back, expect him to have a much larger role on both sides of the ball this fall. Brown has all the tools to put together a breakout senior season and become one of the Patriots' most versatile playmakers. The rising senior is an outstanding run blocker who excels at pulling in space, using his athleticism and speed to create running lanes. Defensively, Sutton is just as disruptive, recording more than 20 quarterback hurries and two sacks last season. His relentless motor and ability to impact the game on both sides of the ball make him one of Southern Alamance's most valuable trench players heading into his senior year. His length, speed, and athleticism immediately stand out on film, especially for a player with his size. Defensively, Ledbetter is a true playmaker who recorded an interception, forced fumble, and fumble recovery last season. His long arms allow him to disrupt passing lanes and finish plays, while his speed gives him the ability to chase down ball carriers from anywhere on the field. Ledbetter has the tools to become one of the top two-way prospects in the area.
