The Eagles have been a consistent state championship contender and 2025 was no different. And in fact, the season started the same way as 2024 did. Unfortunately for Del City, it started with a 35-0 loss to Edmond Memorial. But the Eagles would immediately bounce back. They beat Booker T Washington with ease the following week before shutting out Midwest City to wrap up non-district play. They beat Collinsville in the final minute to open up district play and from there, the Eagles went on an absolute run. They won their next five games and they were never really tested. The closest win during the month of October was a 42-14 win over Tahlequah in week eight. The season came down to a week ten showdown with undefeated Pryor for the district championship. It ended up being a high-scoring game but the Eagles came up short, falling 51-35. They hosted Booker T Washington in the first round and after beating the Hornets by 31 points back in week one, the rematch was significantly closer. The Eagles prevailed 34-28 and would face Lawton MacArthur in the 5A quarterfinals. It ended up being one of the higher scoring games of the playoffs, regardless of class as defense was extremely optional in this one. But the Eagles fell 70-49 and the season came to an end at 9-3. Del City fell short of the ultimate goal of raising the gold ball. But they continued to be one of the consistent contenders in Class 5A football. The Eagles have won at least nine games in all five years under head coach Robert Jones.

2026 OUTLOOK

The Eagles are once again considered one of the teams to beat as they enter a new football season. Del City is a top five team in Class 5A and have the potential to go on a championship run this season. Things will start on offense for the Eagles, with eight starters returning from a team that averaged just shy of 45 points per game last season. They bring back the majority of their offensive line, some serious talent at wide receiver and one of the better running backs in Class 5A. The Eagles also bring back their starting quarterback from last season but a recent addition to the roster could open things up for their returning QB to move positions and Del City's firepower just got an addition. It wouldn't be surprising to see the Eagles average north of 40 points per game this season. It seems like they've achieved that in each of the last few seasons. Defensively, Del City brings back six starters from last year's team. Del City's coaches are very confident in the experience they bring back in the secondary, with the majority of their starters returning there. In the front seven, they'll have a nice mix of experience and young players that are hungry to make a name for themselves. The strength of the front seven will be the speed that they play with. Del City has been one of the best regular season teams in Class 5A over the last five seasons. In the last five years alone, the Eagles have lost only five games in the regular season while they've lost five games in the playoffs during that same stretch. Del City is hungry to get over the hump and contend for the state championship. They've been very close at various times in the last few seasons. They are going to come into this season with the confidence that they can play for it all in 2026.

KEY LOSSES TO GRADUATION

Arniko Daniels - Offensive/Defensive Lineman (2025 All State Honorable Mention)
Arrion Daniels - Offensive/Defensive Lineman (2025 All State Honorable Mention)
Ricklan Holmes - Running Back/Linebacker (2025 All State 2nd Team Selection)

PLAYERS TO WATCH

Del City has had a few different dominant defensive linemen come through their program over the last decade and the Eagles might have their next guy in that department. 2029 defensive end [player_tooltip player_id='2123163' first='Gabriel' last='Wells'] is a prospect that really stood out to us when we caught the Eagles in person during the spring at team camp. First off, he's a prospect who is going to immediately pass the eye test. That's going to make him a fun player to watch as an edge defender that is still learning at a rapid pace. We're curious how much of an impact Wells can have right away in the Del City defense. But he looks like a prospect who has a very high ceiling and will be a 2029 name to know.

We mentioned earlier in the preview how the Eagles got an addition at the quarterback position. 2028 signal caller [player_tooltip player_id='1326037' first='Grayson' last='Woodard'] is new to the Del City program but he's going to be battling for the QB1 job. Woodard is a quarterback that we've seen a handful of times over the last 18 months at various 7v7 tournaments. Each time we've seen him, he's routinely been one of the better quarterbacks in his respective age division. Now, Friday nights in the fall are a little different than offseason 7v7 tournaments but Woodard can sling it. And when you look at this Del City roster, he's not going to be lacking options when it comes to skill players at receiver.

2027 wide receiver [player_tooltip player_id='2131646' first='Josiah' last='Chester'] continues to be one of the more underrated wide receivers in the state's 2027 class. Chester was productive as a sophomore and then emerged as arguably Del City's top target in the passing game during his junior season. We've caught Chester in person multiple times over the last two years. In camps, practices and in games. Every time we watch him go to work, he's routinely one of the best wide receivers on the field. He has size, speed and playmaking ability that you won't find very often in Class 5A. Chester is going to be a name to watch this season because he is a nightmare to deal with when he gets the ball in space.

(2025 All State Honorable Mention)

2027 running back and overall athlete [player_tooltip player_id='1035154' first='Kaleb' last='Blackwolf'] is going to come into this season as one of the top overall players in the state of Oklahoma, regardless of class. Blackwolf has been an absolute dude since his freshman season at El Reno and continuing over the last two seasons with Del City. Last year, he earned All State 2nd Team honors for his work on both sides of the ball. Offensively, Blackwolf gives the Eagles an everydown running back and a guy they can split out at wide receiver if they need to do so. Defensively, he's a hard-hitting defensive back that looks just as comfortable in run support as he does in the secondary at the safety position.

(2025 All State 2nd Team Selection)

We mentioned earlier how Del City was bringing back the majority of their offensive line. That's certainly going to be a strength for the Eagles when they take the field this season. 2028 offensive and defensive lineman [player_tooltip player_id='1833671' first='Mark' last='Bolds'] is one of the returning starters to keep an eye on when Del City kicks things off in September. What should be scary for Del City opponents is not only do they return the majority of their starters up front, but most of them are underclassmen like Bolds and will have at least two more years to dominate the line of scrimmage. Del City has a potentially lethal offense but it will all start with Bolds and the rest of the Eagle offensive line.

2028 athlete [player_tooltip player_id='1703435' first='Syncere' last='Overton'] enjoyed a breakout sophomore season and now he could be seeing things from a different view as a junior. Overton is in the QB battle with Woodard and he certainly brings both experience and playmaking ability to the position. But if Woodard ends up being the guy, expect a couple things from Overton. First off, he's still going to be a big part of the offense. He'll line up at wide receiver and they'll also have plenty of plays for him at quarterback with him being a run-first option. Overton will also see plenty of playing time on defense in the Del City secondary. Overton is without a doubt a name to know this fall.

(2025 All State Honorable Mention)

MORE NAMES TO KNOW

[player_tooltip player_id='1828892' first='Anthony' last='Mahseet'] - 2028 Offensive/Defensive Lineman
[player_tooltip player_id='2110571' first='Damu' last='Okoe'] - 2028 Linebacker
[player_tooltip player_id='1837422' first='Davion' last='Okoe'] - 2027 Defensive Back
Demauri Godwin - 2029 Offensive/Defensive Lineman
[player_tooltip player_id='1831192' first='Devin' last='Joseph'] - 2028 Offensive/Defensive Lineman
Gylon King - 2027 Defensive Lineman
[player_tooltip player_id='2108348' first='Kaiden' last='Johnson'] - 2027 Wide Receiver/Defensive Back
[player_tooltip player_id='1715379' first='Dominic' last='Berry'] - 2028 Wide Receiver/Defensive Back
[player_tooltip player_id='1833939' first='Xavier' last='Young'] - 2027 Tight End/Linebacker

2026 SCHEDULE

Sept. 4th - AT Southeast
- Del City will open up the 2026 football season with a short trip over to Southeast to face the Spartans. These two teams haven't met in nearly a decade. 2016 and 2017 were their last two meetings and the Eagles won both. The Spartans got out to a fast start last season and this match-up won't be lacking star power.
Sept. 11th - AT Midwest City
- Del City visits Mid-Del rival Midwest City in week two and these two have played in non-district play in each of the last four years. Del City has dominated this series recently, winning five straight and each win has been by 20+ points. Historically, Midwest City has had the edge in this series but Del City owns it right now.
Sept. 18th - Carl Albert
- The Eagles will know exactly where they stand in Class 5A as they wrap up non-district play against the reigning state champs. It's also the home opener as the Eagles host Carl Albert. The last three meetings between these two have been in the playoffs and Carl Albert has won all three. The Eagles will have this one circled for sure.
Sept. 25th - AT Coweta
- Del City opens up their district slate in week four with a trip to the east side of the state. They'll face Coweta to open district play. The Tigers were district champions last season and if Del City wants to capture another district title, this is a game they'll have to win. These two teams split their 2022 and 2023 district meetings.
Oct. 2nd - Glenpool
- Sandwiched in between two trips to the east side of the state is a week five home game against Glenpool. These two teams were district opponents in 2022 and 2023. The Eagles were absolutely dominant in those two meetings. In 2022, there was a 72-0 victory, followed up by a 67-0 victory over Glenpool in 2023.
Oct. 9th - AT W. Rogers
- Del City heads to Tulsa for the first of two trips this season. The Eagles will face Tulsa Rogers in week six and the Eagles will look to continue their dominance over the Ropers in the last few seasons. This is the third straight year that these two teams have played in district play. Del City won last year's meeting 68-7.
Oct. 15th - Sapulpa
- On a Fall Break Thursday night, Del City will host Sapulpa in week seven. The Chieftains are a new district opponent for the Eagles after they spent the last two seasons in Class 6A-2. Before that, Sapulpa was a district foe in 2022 and 2023. The Eagles won both meetings and neither one was very competitive but Sapulpa looks strong for 2026.
Oct. 23rd - AT Bishop Kelley
- The last road game of the regular season comes in week eight as Del City heads to Tulsa to face Bishop Kelley. These two teams have been perennial playoff teams in Class 5A for a while now. So it's crazy to think that this year's meeting will only be the second time these two faced off in recent memory. The last time was a 30-0 Del City win in the 2022 playoffs.
Oct. 30th - East Central
- The Eagles host East Central in week nine and the Cardinals are another new district opponent on the slate this season. These two teams last faced off in 2022 and 2023. The Eagles were dominant in those two meetings, winning both by a combined score of 136-7. They'll be looking for another big win this season.
Nov. 6th - McAlester
- The regular season comes to a close in week ten with a very important home game against McAlester. The Eagles and Buffaloes are district opponents again after not playing the last two seasons. The last time they were district foes, they split the series in 2022 and 2023. The district title could come down to this head to head match-up in week ten.

NOTABLE

Del City has become used to being road warriors during district play over the last few seasons and that will continue in 2026. The Eagles were originally going to be in a west side district for the 2024 and 2025 seasons. But after an emergency redistricting in April, 2024, the Eagles found themselves in an east side district and that will continue again in 2026 and 2027. Fortunately for Del City, the 2026 season will be kind to their gas tanks as only three of the district games are on the road. They'll have two trips to Tulsa and one trip to Coweta, while the rest of their district contests are at home. It would be interesting to see how the last two seasons and this year would go if Del City wasn't in an east side district. But Class 5A is an unbalanced class between east and west teams. And we would think if you asked coaches what they prefer in a district, more competitive balance or geographic balance, they would lean to competitive balance. So for at least the next two seasons, Del City will once again compete in an east side district.

LAST FIVE SEASONS

2025 - 9-3 - Lost In Class 5A Quarterfinals
2024 - 11-2 - Lost In Class 5A Semifinals
2023 - 12-1 - Class 5A Runner Ups
2022 - 9-3 - Lost In Class 5A Quarterfinals
2021 - 9-2 - Lost In Class 6A-2 Quarterfinals

CHAMPIONSHIP HISTORY

1 State Championship

1976 - Beat Putnam City West 27-13
