Get 30% off your first billing cycle with code: howe30 in the coupon code area

Colleges have done well in mining Iowa's 2027 recruiting class. Twelve different guys have verbally committed to Power 4 programs. Quite a few others have pledged to FBS and FCS schools.

Even with those sizable numbers, a lot of talent from the state for the cycle remains in the board. Here's a closer look at a group of them:

[player_tooltip player_id='1699600' first='Matthew' last='Holle'], OL, Independence

Announced offers: None.

The Situation: Holle put together a strong junior season at Independence in 2025. Lining up at right offensive tackle, he combined strength and agility in finding consistent success as can be seen when watching his 11th-grade highlight video. It's a projectable frame capable of adding mass and strength on a college conditioning program without the loss of mobility. Holle uses his hands well and smoothly reaches blocks in space. It's a skill set that would work on the outside in college or play up with a move inside. There's also a path to developing into a productive defensive lineman.

Holle camped at Dubuque on June 20. He also visited Northern Iowa for a game last fall and heard from Chadron State and North Dakota State.

[player_tooltip player_id='1617688' first='Donovan' last='Holloway'], ATH, Davenport North

Announced offers: Wisconsin-Platteville.

The Situation: Holloway was one of the state's most productive defenders as a Davenport North junior in 2025. He racked up 65.0 tackles, 49 of which were of the solo variety. His 15.5 tackles for loss and four sacks pointed to his knack for disruption. Holloway is an explosive athlete lining up at linebacker for the Wildcats. Lateral quickness and straight-line speed lead to consistent flying to the football. Long arms, a projectable frame and athleticism point to there being a high ceiling for Holloway. He is being way under-recruited relative to talent and potential.

Wisconsin-Platteville came through with an opportunity to play college football on June 2. He's not reported any other college interest, which is pretty surprising.

[player_tooltip player_id='2167021' first='Jaden' last='Houser'], ATH, Johnston

Announced offers: St. Thomas.

The Situation: Houser is a super athlete that stands out on the gridiron and the basketball court, where he shines for Iowa United on the AAU circuit. The explosion and athleticism required on the hardwood translate well onto the football field. Projecting as a receiver or tight end on the next level, Houser's moldable frame can comfortably add good weight and strength in a college conditioning program while maintaining burst. There's potential to dream on when viewing his 11th-grade highlight video. He could really take off if focusing in football full time.

St. Thomas became the first Division I program to offer Houser a scholarship when it did so at a camp on June 18. He also camped with Iowa State, Drake, Minnesota Duluth and Grand View.

[player_tooltip player_id='1940790' first='Ian' last='Hughes'], OL, Waukee

Announced offers: Wayne State, Morningside, Grand View, Northwestern College.

The Situation: Waukee had a strong case for playing the state's toughest schedule last season. The Warriors navigated it to a playoff spot with an offensive line paving the way more than 3,400 yards of offense and 36 touchdowns. Hughes was a key component to the success up front as can be witnessed when watching his junior highlight video from 2025. He's built for the line's interior with a powerful operation built on pushing opponents around. Hughes does well in getting under their pads and winning the leverage battle. There's an aptitude for being a center on the next level, where his skill set would play up and provide him with the highest ceiling.

Hughes took matters into his own hands on the recruiting front last month, when he earned opportunities while camping at Wayne State and Morningside. Grand View and Northwestern College had offered before that. He also camped with Iowa State and South Dakota State last month.

[player_tooltip player_id='1361323' first='Beckhim' last='Hutchinson-Fuessel'], ATH, Davenport Central

Announced offers: None.

The Situation: Hutchinson-Fuessel was a bright spot in what was a challenging 2025 season for Davenport Central. The junior linebacker registered 32.5 tackles, 24 of which were solo stops. He added four tackles for loss. Hutchinson-Fuessel also rushed for 184 yards and three touchdowns. His 11th-grade highlight video reveals a prospect with potential on both sides of the ball. He's a smooth runner with power and patience. On defense, he gets downhill in a hurry and can run with receivers. Hutchinson-Fuessel does well at linebacker at the prep level and would fit in college defenses at that spot. His skills also keep open the door for a move to safety in other schemes.

Hutchinson-Fuessel hasn't reported any interest from colleges. That seems like a major oversight.
