Two of the top five receivers and seven of the 10 leading rushers return, too.

But I'm most intrigued by the quarterbacks.

Six of eight teams return their starter, and one of the others may have a budding star.

Potential Sleepers

Union Pines quarterback [player_tooltip player_id='1690456' first='Vida' last='Blue'] has yet to throw a varsity pass, but the coaching staff is high on him, and we were impressed last time we saw him in a camp setting. Always a defense-first, ball-control unit, Union Pines immediately becomes a state-title contender if Blue can elevate the passing game.

Another in a group of talented Carolina Pines quarterbacks is South Johnston's [player_tooltip player_id='1655116' first='Tyler' last='Williams'], who threw for just under 1,000 yards last season. A true athlete, he's a dual threat who ran for over 400 yards and also played some safety for the Trojans last season.

His top target is [player_tooltip player_id='2147418' first='Cayden' last='Odle'], and if the offense can be a bit more consistent (the defense only allowed 21 points per game in the Trojans' four losses last year), they'll challenge for a conference championship.

Triton's [player_tooltip player_id='1658476' first='Tracey' last='Brown'] is a game-breaking interior defensive lineman looking for more consistency. If he can improve on a down-to-down basis, he'll put up big numbers and make Triton's defense a tough unit to run on.

It's hard to call the conference's second-leading receiver a "sleeper," but Harnett Central's [player_tooltip player_id='1853146' first='Kole' last='Thompson'] doesn't get enough credit for his downfield abilities. He was the conference's top kick returner and picked off four passes, as well.

Lee County has two standout defenders who are among the best in the conference. Linebacker [player_tooltip player_id='1636768' first='Tyler' last='Buchear'] and edge rusher [player_tooltip player_id='2147849' first='Daniel' last='Prince'] are two impressive front-seven defenders who helped the Yellow Jackets allow less than 20 points per game in conference.

Conference Player of the Year Prediction

[player_tooltip player_id='1610573' first='Adrian' last='Colon'] | RB | Union Pines

Union Pines may have some playmakers on the outside, but the Vikings want to run the football. Colon broke out in 2025 with just over 1,000 yards on 154 carries. He also averaged 24 yards per reception and scored 14 touchdowns last year.

I think his volume will tick up a bit, and 1,500 yards isn't out of the question for the rising senior in 2026.

Carolina Pines 6A Predicted Order of Finish

1) Union Pines

2) Harnett Central

3) South Johnston

4) Western Harnett

5) Lee County

6) West Johnston

7) Triton

8) Southern Lee

Coaches, if you want your team featured in a team preview, fill out our preseason survey. Last year, we rolled conference previews and potential team MVPs into one piece. This year, with more offseason planning, we were able to separate the two, thus going into greater detail. We've already predicted each Carolina Pines 6A team's best player, so this is a more traditional conference preview.
