The UA Next Camp in Chicago was a great opportunity to evaluate some of the top prospects in the Midwest with our focus particularly on Illinois. We were able to see the passing drills along with one on ones between pass catchers and defensive backs. Here I examine what caught our attention from the Illinois 2027 Defensive Backs at the camp!

[player_tooltip player_id='2105075' first='Cashmere' last='Coleman'] (Nazareth – 2027)

The 6'1” 185 pound long and rangy corner certainly has the look! Fluid backpedal with the ability to turn and run with any receiver. Had a sweet pass break up playing physical vs a tight end using his length to bat the pass down. Recovers even if he gives up a step with his speed breaking up passes in the air deep.

[player_tooltip player_id='1791871' first='Jackson' last='Cook'] (Harlem – 2027)

Cook is a freak athlete! The 6'1” corner is also a star in track and baseball. Super athletic corner that had a great break up jumping a route to bat down a pass on the perimeter. The athletic and physical tools jump out with him!

Cruz Evans (Glenwood – 2027)

Evans is an intriguing safety at 6'1” 175 pounds who was top among safeties with his 40 time of 4.45 seconds. Ran a 4.39 shuttle while having a broad jump of 117.2” and 34.7” vertical. Tracks the ball well in the air and knows when to jump to make a play on it especially against taller receivers.

[player_tooltip player_id='1335208' first='Isaac' last='Saldana'] (Mt. Carmel – 2027)

Saldana is a versatile defensive back that is a gamer. Some of those intangibles don't always show up in a camp setting, but he did have a few nice plays in one on ones. That included recovering on a double move breaking up the pass in the air before it got to the receiver.

[player_tooltip player_id='1865423' first='Connor' last='Hites'] (St. Ignatius – 2027)

Hites is a skilled and technically sound defensive back at 6'3” 195 pounds who projects best at safety at the next level.
