TN2028 Watch List: Cover Corners

These prospects below show those capabilities and upside to handle the island on the college level. </h2> <!-- /wp:heading --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p></p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>(Several more cornerback prospects will jump on our radar over the coming months and year but right now, these are the guys we have either scouted, seen in person or know about going into the 2026 football season)</p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p><strong>(CB) [player_tooltip player_id='1193376' first='Jermaine' last='Cobbins'] - Springfield</strong></p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>- This Mid-Tennessee product may wind up being the top overall prospect from our TN2028 class and a big reason for that is Cobbins upside on the college level to lock down one side of the field, playing cornerback. A natural athlete with explosive flashes and strong instincts, Cobbins has every physical tool and trait to develop nicely on the island and if that doesn't work out, the Yellow Jackets senior is talented enough to excel anywhere else in the secondary. There is a reason every Power Four program is in pursuit of Cobbins and have him as a priority at the top of their recruiting boards. Standing 5 '10 175 plus, Bowman brings nice to the field along with a frame that can pack on additional size. He is solid athletically too with excellent footwork and the intelligence and speed to stay glued to his receiver. Bowman isn't just a cover guy. The Red Raiders junior does good work against the run as well, showing a quick burst to the ball and technique tackling. While Bowman does run well, increasing his agility and speed would do wonders at pushing his game to another level. Overall, this is a clean prospect that will remain high within our rankings until he finishes high school ball.&nbsp;</p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>- - - - -&nbsp;</p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p><strong>(CB) [player_tooltip player_id='1570535' first='Zayden' last='Williams'] - Oak Ridge</strong></p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>- One of the hottest recruits from the TN2028 class over the off-season months has been this East Tennessee product that presents great physical tools and secondary upside that could be developed at cornerback. Williams is a tall, long and athletic back end defender that has taken to his training and begun showing flashes of being able to remain on the outside in college. The Wildcats junior defensive back is an interesting case to follow into the 2026 season to see how far along Williams is to play on the island because I can easily see him handling safety on the next level if working on the exterior doesn't work out. Regardless, this East Tennessee product is uber talented with a bright future that could develop at multiple positions and possibly one day become an All-Conference performer.&nbsp;</p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>- - - - -&nbsp;</p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p><strong>(CB) [player_tooltip player_id='1031890' first='Braylen' last='Gibbs'] - Knox. Catholic</strong></p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>- Recently pledging his services to Alabama, Gibbs is a long term, big pay off prospect that is dripping with potential and maybe this Fall, he will begin to show that. Last year as a sophomore, Gibbs flashed big play abilities from his corner position but he also spent a lot of time on offense at receiver, so more experience on defense is needed before I and others can see exactly what kind of player he can become. What I see is a tall, long, wide radius guy with natural athleticism that uses his quick first step and speed to lock down his receiver and make plays on the ball. Gibbs flashes ball hawk like abilities and I think those can improve with more time spent learning to play the corner position. Webb this Fall season, Lloyd has been one of the best workers from the off-season months that has pushed his game to new heights and I think you will start to see his next level potential very soon. The Spartans junior defensive back is a grinder, a worker, a player that is dedicated to the game and willing to do what it takes to play football for a very long time. Lloyd is a technician that does all the small things correctly, which puts him in position to succeed. I do see potential for this East Tennessee product to play cover corner in college but at worst, Lloyd could excel at nickel back or safety as well. It should be fun to watch how Lloyd performs this coming season and what he does to establish himself as one of the better cover corners from our junior in-state class.&nbsp;</p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>- - - - -&nbsp;</p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p><strong>(CB) [player_tooltip player_id='1576785' first='Terry' last='Ligon'] - Oakland</strong></p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>- Over the years, the Patriots football program has generated a lot of college level secondary prospects and Ligon looks like the next guy in line. This 6 '2 long armed defensive back presents a lot of athletic and physical upside for the next level, which could be developed and flourish on the island at cornerback. When you turn on his film, you see a tall and long defender that breaks on the ball quickly while displaying the speed to stay on track with his receiver. Ligon is also a willing tackler from his corner position that reads the run game well and attacks without hesitation. The biggest area of improvement for this Rutherford County product is to continue getting bigger and stronger and filling out his frame much further. If he does that, I think you will start to see Power Four programs extend offers.&nbsp;</p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>- - - - -&nbsp;</p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p><strong>(CB) [player_tooltip player_id='1092637' first='Messiah' last='Ward'] - Westview</strong></p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>- The Chargers might have one of the better secondary units for the 2026 season, especially if this rising junior jumps forward and takes the next proper steps in his progression. The more and more I look into Ward, the more I like and see the upside for him to handle cover corner on the college stage. This West Tennessee prospect is an athletic performer with quick feet that breaks on the ball well while showing excellent ball skills. Ward displays strong instincts, which shows up in zone coverage. I do see upside playing man to man while also willing to come up and tackle in run support. What makes me say that statement is the fact that Harris is quite athletic and very fast. Just recently at a college camp, the Purple Wave defender clocked a 4.4 forty and in his clips, Harris looks quick footed with an excellent first step. I believe time will be needed for Harris to develop on the outside as he spends time handling receiver duties as well but in the long run, I see his potential best playing cornerback. Harris might not be ranked high in our upcoming junior rankings but eventually, I think this Memphis area product could become a “Top 50” prospect.&nbsp;</p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>- - - - -&nbsp;</p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p><strong>(CB) [player_tooltip player_id='2228527' first='Camryn' last='Young'] - Southwind</strong></p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>- The next up and coming prospect on the Jaguars roster could be this athletic defensive back that might have a shot at playing cover corner on the collegiate gridiron. Watching through his sophomore film, I see a talented defender with good size (6'0 180), speed and the hip movements to keep track with his receiver. Young does a nice job of staying low in his stance while using his eyes and lower half agility to stay glued with the opposition. He is also willing to get physical as well both in his coverage and run support. The Jags junior defensive back does need to keep learning his position and enhancing his overall skill set but I like the upside and chances he has at playing on the island. If that doesn't work out, becoming a ball hawk at safety is possible as well.&nbsp;</p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>- - - - -&nbsp;</p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p><strong>(CB) [player_tooltip player_id='2179329' first='Isaiah' last='Coclough'] - Dobyns Bennett</strong></p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>- This East Tennessee prospect is a name to watch over the coming season and into the future as Coclough has physical abilities and traits that translate well to the college game. Standing 6 '1 and a little more than 160 pounds, the Indians junior defender has the height, length and wide radius frame that college coaches look for on the outside. Coclough is a good athlete too that runs well, showing on film the ability to flip his hips and run with his opponent. Now he does need to gain a good bit of weight while getting stronger but the traits are there to develop nicely on the outside.
