I had an opportunity to watch a lot of talented athletes at the Under Armour Next-Up Baltimore camp a few weeks ago. Over the past couple of weeks, I've broken down what I saw from the wide receivers during the 1v1 session with the defensive backs. In this article. I'll give some quick thoughts on some of those defensive backs during that 1v1 session.

[player_tooltip player_id='1644165' first='Eli' last='Jacques'] | 5-9 | 170 | St. John's College | 2028 | Washington D.C. | Cornerback

Jacques avoided granting a free release to the reps I watched. Displayed quick mirror steps at the line of scrimmage and stayed in phase downfield with the receiver. Intercepted a pass by undercutting the receiver and snagging the football out of the air. Able to close space and break downhill quickly. Has a couple of FBS offers.

https://twitter.com/EdOBrienCFB/status/2067787484239441969?s=20

[player_tooltip player_id='1506844' first='CJ' last='Davis'] | 5-11 | 170 | McDonogh | 2028 | Maryland | Cornerback

Davis is one of the better two-way athletes in the 2028 recruiting class. He truly sticks to receivers like glue. His ability to accelerate and get on top of the wide receiver on deep routes is impressive. The speed and quickness are evident. I like the fact that he's going to get his hands on the receiver if he's in press coverage (meaning no free releases). I think the fact that he plays wide receiver as well helps him with route recognition. I like his vertical speed a lot. Davis is explosive and can close any gap quickly. Impressive footwork.

https://twitter.com/EdOBrienCFB/status/2067788541434740970?s=20

Kaleb Woseley | 6-0 | 160 | Imhotep Charter | 2028 | Pennsylvania | Cornerback

Woseley caused incompletions on 10-12 yard comeback routes on the reps that I watched. Both times he was in press coverage and was able to anticipate the receivers' route breaks. He gave up no separation and did a great job of not rounding out his break. Despite not jamming the receivers in the reps I watched, he was able to force a timing issue between the wide receiver and quarterback. Technically sound, but that's no surprise. Imhotep Charter consistently produces P4-caliber defensive backs.

https://twitter.com/EdOBrienCFB/status/2067788919605797068?s=20

[player_tooltip player_id='1672675' first='Langston' last='Pridgeon'] | 6-2 | 183 | DeMatha Catholic | Maryland | Cornerback

College coaches will be impressed with whatever film they watch on Pridgeon from this camp. I have a lot of indy position footage, and a few 1v1 reps. At 6-2, he is obviously long and very hard to shake in press coverage. If you manage to beat him with an inside release, you might have a chance. Otherwise, he smothers you at the line of scrimmage. It's still a problem even after the release. He has the speed to keep up with receivers downfield and the foot quickness to drive on the football quickly. In the reps that I saw, he was already on top of the receiver, which enabled him to break up one pass and intercept another. Another technically sound defensive back out of the DMV

https://twitter.com/EdOBrienCFB/status/2067790528062672972?s=20

[player_tooltip player_id='1739873' first='Reid' last='Baker'] | 6-0 | 180 | Good Counsel | Maryland | Cornerback

Baker won both reps that I watched during the camp. In both cases, his ability to finish and play through the receiver's hands enabled him to break up passes. From the looks of it, it looks like he was working on a few things from a footwork standpoint, so I won't be picky about him not getting a jam in press coverage. With that being said, he showed great patience at the line of scrimmage and didn't go for any of the wide receiver's fakes on the release. In both cases, he stayed on the receivers' hips and forced incompletions with tight coverage. Solid technique overall.

https://twitter.com/EdOBrienCFB/status/2067791139353043361?s=20

Grayden Reid | 6-3 | 195 | Atherton | Kentucky | Cornerback

Reid traveled all the way from Kentucky to compete and left as the MVP for defensive backs. After watching him at the camp, it's clear why he's considered one of the top defensive backs in the country. His height and long arms are a big-time physical advantage, as seen in the 1v1 reps I watched him participate in. Very solid in both off-man and press coverage. He has good lateral quickness and is smooth in his transitions from backpedal to drive and/or turning and running in phase with the receiver. Even when Reid got caught out of position at the beginning of one rep, he easily made up for it within 2-3 steps and caused an incompletion on a comeback route.

https://twitter.com/EdOBrienCFB/status/2067792211727589738?s=20

[player_tooltip player_id='1313513' first='Brayden' last='Oshode'] | 2027 | Virginia | Cornerback

Oshode had a solid overall camp. During the 1v1 reps that I watched, he was in press coverage. There was one rep where he did get beat to the inside, but he didn't panic at all. Oshode got into a trail technique as the receiver started running his post route. The impressive thing was Oshode recognizing the route, adjusting it, and almost running it for him. He deflected the pass, causing an interception. On the reps I saw, I loved his footwork, and he didn't grab at all as he ran downfield in phase with the receiver. He accelerates quickly and makes up ground in a hurry. Smooth in transition.

https://twitter.com/EdOBrienCFB/status/2067793589615145379?s=20
