It's June, which is close enough to the season to start preseason content, at least in my mind. We're bringing back one of my favorite series from last season, but this time it's a bit earlier in the summer. Here, we're looking at several conferences to predict one player per team as their team MVP. Let's look at the Eastern Plains 2A/3A Conference.

Predicting Eastern Plains 2A/3A Conference Team MVPs

Editor's Note: Since we started these much later in the offseason, we rolled these into conference previews. We'll preview conferences in the future, but here, we're just focusing on team MVPs.

Other Team MVP Pieces: Albemarle 2A | Southern Carolina 6A/7A | Quad City Seven 8A | Carolina Pines 6A | Big Carolina 6A/7A

The Eastern Plains 2A/3A Conference was arguably the best top-to-bottom conference in the state, relative to level last year. Five teams made the playoffs, four won multiple games, two made the championship, and Tarboro went undefeated. All six teams lose key players, but there's plenty of returning talent. Let's predict their 2026 MVPs

Tarboro Vikings

[player_tooltip player_id='2092909' first='Antonio' last='Draughn'] | RB

Consider this a "system play" as there are several returning Vikings who had more productive 2025 seasons than Draughn. That being said, Tarboro knows how to develop running backs, and Draughn was electric in limited touches last season. He will likely become the new workhorse for Tarboro's patented run-heavy system, and I'd be surprised if he doesn't surpass 1,000 yards.

Others Considered: [player_tooltip player_id='2092906' first='Carmello' last='Bullock'] (DB/LB), [player_tooltip player_id='1696871' first='Emmanuel' last='DeBerry'] (DL)

Ayden-Grifton Chargers

[player_tooltip player_id='1704843' first='Loyalty' last='Fuller'] | RB/LB

The Chargers lose key talent on both sides of the ball, but Fuller is the leading returning rusher and receiver on offense. He's also one of three returners with over 65 tackles and is a key piece of the defense. As the Chargers search for a consistent playmaker, look for Fuller's numbers to jump as he sees an increase in touches.

Others Considered: [player_tooltip player_id='2176273' first='Khimani' last='Nelson'] (WR), [player_tooltip player_id='2169831' first='Larry' last='Grier'] (DB)

Beddingfield Bruins

[player_tooltip player_id='2225371' first='Kameron' last='Pitt'] | RB/WR/DB

Pitt is explosive despite playing on a struggling offense last year. He led the team in rushing and receiving and is the leading returning tackler on defense. He's a solid, college-worthy athlete with explosive qualities. In the midst of a challenging conference, Pitt is one to watch as a potential difference-maker.

Farmville Central Jaguars

[player_tooltip player_id='2169533' first='Z'mareon' last='Brown'] | RB/LB

It's a real shame we missed Brown during our most recent rankings update for the 2029 class. Rest assured, though, he'll be in the next update before the season. Brown was the team's third-leading rusher on a fantastic offense while racking up 53 tackles and an interception on defense. His defense will be key, as the Jaguars both scored and allowed over 30 points per game last season.

Others Considered: Carlnell Cotton (RB/WR/DB)

Greene Central Rams

[player_tooltip player_id='2169800' first='Trey' last='Bynum'] | WR

While every other team in the conference works to reload after losing most of their talent, Greene Central returns a lot of it. That includes a healthy Bynum, who averaged 28 yards per catch last season. The Rams were 5-6 with three losses of a field goal or less, and Bynum, plus some of the other returners, have a strong chance at a winning record in 2026.

Others Considered: [player_tooltip player_id='1712746' first='Travion' last='Melton'] (DL), Joshua Cetnar (QB)

Kinston Vikings

[player_tooltip player_id='2225419' first='Pap' last='Brown'] | WR

Kinston loses a ton of talent off its state runners-up squad, including quarterback, top rusher, and four of its top five receivers. The one offensive playmaker who returns is rising junior [player_tooltip player_id='2225419' first='Pap' last='Brown'], a jitterbug of an athlete with big-play potential. If the Vikings want to repeat last year's run, Brown will need to be a star.

Others Considered: [player_tooltip player_id='2225417' first='Jahmeire' last='Brown'] (LB)

Our preseason coverage is just getting started.
