Northwest’s new offers, camp standouts: Defensive linemen

The Northwest is producing major talent disproportionately at a few position, namely wide receiver, tight end, offensive line and defensive line.   That last group is far from least, as several top players n Oregon and Washington have been on an absolute tear in recent months.   Here's a look at the Northwest's major commitments, new offers and camp standouts:    [player_tooltip player_id='1969806' first='Kitiona' last='Tupua'], Puyallup (2029) — Few prospects on the West Coast have seen their stock rise more than Tupua in recent months.   The 6-foot-2, 295-pound defensive lineman has added offers from Arizona State, Boise State, Texas, TCU, Washington State and others, proving interest in his talent extends beyond the West region.   Tupua is a national recruit who will likely exceed 20 scholarship offers by the time his recruitment comes to a close.    [player_tooltip player_id='1246545' first='Josh' last='Christensen'], Lake Oswego (2027) — The Three Rivers League Defensive Lineman of the Year picked up offers from Oklahoma, Oregon and Washington, but put an end to his recruitment recently with an in-state pledge to the Ducks.   Oregon is selective when it comes to in-state “gets,” so it speaks volumes that they worked hard to keep the Lake Oswego star close to home.   Christensen has an intriguing frame at 6-foot-6, 250 pounds and could grow into a variety of role and specialities (run stopping, pass rushing) based on how his body develops.    [player_tooltip player_id='1654734' first='PJ' last='Tautu'], Central Catholic (2028) — Prep Redzone has had [player_tooltip player_id='1654734' first='PJ' last='Tautu'] as the top 2028 Oregon prospects for more than a year - and for good reason.   The talented edge-rusher recently added offers from Arizona, Arizona State, Auburn, BYU, Utah, Washington and many others.   The 6-foot-4, 265-pound lineman and Christensen both work with Lincoln assistant coach Caleb Wells and train with New Athlete, so somebody is clearly doing something really right.    [player_tooltip player_id='2101393' first='Achilles' last='Reyna'], Rainier Beach (2027) — Reyna was a basketball player giving football a try at the start of last season.   It's safe to say the experiment worked.   The 6-foot-8, 260-pound lineman hauled in offers from Cal, LSU, Oregon, Texas A&M and Washington before choosing the Ducks.   Reyna is raw, but the athleticism and size combo is nearly impossible to beat.   He's got an insane ceiling, but is considered a boom-bust guy because of his limited experience playing the game.   That's not a knock on him. It's just the reality.    There's a wide range of outcomes in what he can be - with the high end being an NFL career.    [player_tooltip player_id='937240' first='Isaiah' last='Ormond'], Tualatin (2027) — Prep Redzone's Jordan Johnson has quietly been saying Ormond might be the best interior defensive lineman in Oregon for months.   At the Northwest Showcase, Ormond was an absolutely dominant force - another Wells client, by the way.   The 6-foot-3, 300-pound defensive lineman has offers from Eastern Washington and Portland State, but it would be a surprise if Oregon State didn't come on through soon as well.    [player_tooltip player_id='937281' first='Tripp' last='Johansen'], Willamette (2027) — I'll be honest: I don't really understand why folks are waiting on Johansen.    He's the best two-way lineman in Oregon - and he might be a team captain if you made the all-state team a real squad.    While he holds a mixture of FCS and Group of 6, I view him as a no-doubt FBS prospect.   I love his passion, work ethic and competitiveness.   No one is going to regret offering Johansen.    He's a coach's dream - and a dang good football player.    [player_tooltip player_id='1012776' first='Matthew' last='Curran'], Bellevue (2028) — Curran picked up an offer from Arizona, establishing himself as a Power 4 prospect.   That's a big - and warranted - leap for one of the best defensive lineman in the entire Northwest.   At Prep Redzone, I wrote that his offers from New Mexico and San Diego State were only the beginning.   Curran is experiencing his ascension now.    Nehemiah Aifai Tupua, Evergreen (2028) - Tupua could be listed at either OL or DL.   He picked up OL MVP at Portland State, OL and DL MVP at Linfiled and picked up several offers, including Eastern Washington, Lewis and Clark and Linfield.   He's handled his recruitment well, focusing on schools that could offer, rather than aiming to simply visit the top programs in the country.   That approach is highly commendable and it has paid dividends for him.   We're paying attention - and so are college coaches.    [player_tooltip player_id='1555731' first='Jason' last='Armbruster'], Mount Si (2027) — The talented 6-foot-3, 240-pound edge is a gifted athlete and recently announced his commitment to Montana.   The Grizzlies got a good one - Armbruster could be a future college star.    [player_tooltip player_id='1691682' first='Jack' last='Fournier'], Camas (2027) — A stellar showing at The Northwest Showcase has Prep Redzone feeling good about our Fournier projection, as we like him a lot.    The 6-foot-4, 240-pound edge could be a first-team all-state performer this fall and deserves more attention from programs.   He's under-recruited currently.    [player_tooltip player_id='1614794' first='Kolby' last='Wofford'], Tualatin (2028) — After moving from Dayton, Wofford was a promising prospect worth keeping an eye on.   At The Northwest Showcase, he proved that he and Ormond will be the best DT 1-2 punch in the state.   Wofford still needs to continue to get stronger and develop, but he's only a 2028 so he has the time.   The newest Timberwolves DL has got a chance to really surprise some people this fall.   Tualatin is going to be scary - with both its playmakers and along the lines.
