My Guys: Defensive Standouts in The Boot

Defense is the key to any success that teams want to have in Louisiana. While there are many teams that will break the door down on the offensive side of the ball, there are also teams that will stop you in the backfield more times than you would like. The state has plenty of talented players, and there have been five players who have constantly grown on me. Here are five of "my guys" on defense in The Boot.    Prentice MacKyeon Jr. is set for a massive season, as he is one of the better players in the state of Louisiana and has shown time and time again that he is one of the more athletic players in the country. The best thing this prospect has going for him is his mental aspect. He wants to get better daily and feels that he is falling short of his potential, which will make him a dangerous player to go against next season, as last season was unbelievable. After closely evaluating the talented prospect, I have come to the conclusion that he is one of my favorite players in the state and is going to be an elite player by the time his high school career is done.     This is a bit cheating, as Brown is one of my favorite players in the state of Louisiana on both sides of the ball. He continues to get better when it comes to his footwork as a defensive back, which has only helped him on the offensive side of the ball, but his ability to preserve speed until the needed moments on the offensive side of the ball has helped him tremendously on defense. This prospect could find himself playing college football on either side of the ball, if not both with a college down the line. One of the rare exceptions when it comes to playing the Travis Hunter Jr. role.     [player_tooltip player_id='1616374' first='Kyle' last='Horde'] plays both sides of the ball, but I have really enjoyed watching him on the defensive side of the ball. He continues to show that he is dominant in the rushing defense at the second level, and is great when it comes to gap shooting. He is one of the better players when it comes to driving playmakers to the ground, and is playing at 100% on his worst days. Horde continues to impress me as a linebacker, and could be considered as the consensus best linebacker in the state depending on the group of people who are asked to rank the prospect.     Who would've guessed that a player with the first name Kobe would be a baller? Everyone would have. That is exactly what the Abbeville High School product is, as he is one of the more versatile players in the country with his ability to play on offense and defense, but more importantly, play any spot in the secondary for the defensive system that he plays. He is rangey, and there won't be many who would like to test his skills, as he is continuing to show that he is a top-end player in teh state of Louisiana. I would be utterly shocked if he doesn't crack the top-100 this season.     If you have caught the vibe of the players that I have learned to like a ton in the state of Louisiana, it is the players who continue to get better, but at multiple positions. If you need an EDGE and a linebacker, mix your guy is [player_tooltip player_id='964128' first='Javen' last='Calloway']. He is only getting better as time goes on, and he is one of the players with the best ceiling, as he is only going to improve his frame while polishing his traits. I think that he will find himself pushing for som e major accolades this season, and has the chance to prove that he is the best defender on the Minden High School roster in 2026.
