Inside The Film Room 3rd Edition

With a little bit of time before I get into some team and conference previews, I will be digging into the film of players all across North Carolina and giving my thoughts and analysis in a new series I'm calling Inside The Film Room! An All-Conference selection as a freshman, Naiel is reportedly up to 160 pounds now and should be a key piece of the Titans' defense this upcoming season. When you turn on the tape, you see some abilities that a freshman playing varsity football typically doesn't have. First off, his excellent speed when blitzing causes sacks and turnovers on a consistent basis. Playing from depth, Naiel takes some excellent pursuit angles to chase down ball carriers all over the field. Naiel also tackles very well in the open field, often times in a solo capacity. One other thing that sticks out is his relentless effort - there are several plays on his film where if he doesn't hustle downfield to make a tackle, the offense is going to score a touchdown.     Javarius is one of the more talented players that you probably don't know, who helped lead Cherryville to its best overall season in several years. Javarius plays both wide receiver and defensive back, so we'll take a look at the film and break him down. As a receiver, he exhibits some strong hands and makes catches in tight traffic. Javarius can even play some running back, and he has nice vision with the ball in his hands and quick feet to get into the open field. As a defensive back, he does a good job of keeping outside contain in run support and isn't afraid to come up and tackle from his corner position. Finally, Javarius shows some good speed and can get behind defensive backs for big plays down the field in the passing game as a receiver. I like him better overall as a player with the ball in his hands - he affects the game a lot more in that way in my opinion.     Gregory is a big, strong run-stuffing defensive tackle who is an anchor for the Red Raiders at the line of scrimmage. When you take a look at his film, the first two plays show him using his strength to prevent offensive linemen from getting movement in the running game, and then he's able to use his hands to play off the block and get tackles in the middle of the line of scrimmage where the play is being run. Gregory also shows a good get-off at the snap, which allows him to get into the gap immediately and slow the run down. Gregory also does a good job of closing down gaps when guards release inside to the 2nd level, and clogs up the interior run game. I also like his burst in short spaces. His pass rush is pretty much limited to bull rushing at this point, but it is effective because he's a really strong young man.     Holding an offer from North Carolina Central, Seven is a two-time All-Conference player, so I'm intrigued to dig into this film and see what makes him a special player. On his first clip, he shows great discipline in zone coverage and comes up with an interception in an important playoff game. 2nd clip, he gets a fumble recovery and returns it for a TF. In the 3rd and 4th clips, he picks up interceptions in man coverage. This tells me Seven is a game-changer easily on defense. Then the next two clips, forced fumbles and turnovers. Next clip, blocked field goal to win the game. His impact on the game is undeniable at this point. Seven tackles very well in open space, and shows versatility in both man and zone coverage concepts. He'll be in our next rankings update, and I think he's definitely underrated from a recruiting perspective. Very impressive stuff.     An All-Conference selection last season, Caleb has the physical traits to be a talented signal-caller at the quarterback position. I'm eager to dig into the film and see what's there. The first two clips grab your attention immediately. Caleb throws a 50-yard strike on the run for a touchdown in the first clip with relative ease. On the second clip, Caleb takes a designed QB run about 70 yards for a touchdown, showing some impressive dual-threat ability. 3rd clip, he makes a beautiful throw down the seam from the pocket for a touchdown, showing nice touch and accuracy. Caleb has picked up recent offers from Averett and Ferrum, and recruiting is hard for quarterbacks right now, so congrats to him on that. Caleb's ability to run as an athlete gives him an advantage because he could be used in a number of different ways on the next level, possibly.
