The release of our inaugural 2029 Top 100 rankings provides an early look at some of the top young talent across West Virginia. With most of these prospects just beginning their high school careers, evaluations are based on a combination of freshman film, camp performances, live exposures, athletic traits, and long-term upside. At this stage, projection plays a large role, but there is already plenty of talent emerging throughout the state. These rankings are far from final and will continue to evolve as players gain experience, develop physically, and put more film out for evaluation. For now, this serves as our first look at the names we believe have positioned themselves among the top prospects in the Class of 2029.

Early varsity experience should pay off for 2029 Williamstown LB [player_tooltip player_id='1971728' first='JP' last='Strobl'] in the years ahead. Strobl earned a spot among the Top 15 linebackers after contributing on both the JV and varsity levels as a freshman. He made plays on each side of the ball, but we like his long-term outlook best at linebacker, where his instincts and athleticism fit naturally. On offense, Strobl filled multiple roles as an H-back and fullback, showing he could both block and make plays when the ball came his way. His versatility was a valuable asset throughout his first season, and as he continues to build on that experience, Strobl has the tools to become a key defender for the Yellowjackets.

2029 Spring Mills QB [player_tooltip player_id='1708646' first='Kimari' last='Fisher'] is an intriguing young quarterback with plenty of room to grow. Fisher checks in as the #6 quarterback after a quality freshman season on their younger team and a standout performance at our Exposure Series. Fisher also brings enough athleticism to make plays outside the pocket, giving him dual-threat potential as he continues to develop. He could find himself in the mix for a larger role in his junior year, and his upside makes him a quarterback worth tracking over time.

There's still plenty to learn about 2029 Point Pleasant WR [player_tooltip player_id='2112407' first='Ryan' last='Gibbs'], but the early traits are encouraging. Ranked among the Top 20 receivers, Gibbs didn't have an extensive amount of freshman film to evaluate, yet what was available showed a player with intriguing physical tools. His 6'1 frame gives him good size on the outside, and his speed allows him to stretch the field and separate once he gets into space. The varsity production should come as he earns more opportunities and continues developing within the Big Blacks' program. Gibbs is a projection at this stage, but he's one of those receivers who could take a noticeable jump over the next couple of seasons as his game catches up to his athletic ability.

2029 Parkersburg South WR [player_tooltip player_id='2112392' first='Carson' last='Nutter'] earned his spot among the Top 20 receivers after a productive freshman season across multiple levels of the Patriots' program. Most of his impact came on the freshman and JV teams, where he flashed potential as both a slot receiver and safety. We like his future at receiver, where he showed good speed, reliable hands, and the ability to create yards after the catch on quick throws. Nutter also came down with several contested catches, showing he could win 50/50 balls. The foundation is there for him to continue climbing as he gains more varsity experience. He's another young receiver whose role should continue to grow over the next few seasons.

A change of scenery gives 2029 Hurricane QB [player_tooltip player_id='1716368' first='Archer' last='Altizer'] an opportunity to compete for the starting job sooner rather than later. Altizer debuts as the #7 quarterback after transferring from Chapmanville, where he gained valuable experience while leading the Tigers' JV offense. He's an athletic quarterback who moves well and has the versatility to contribute in multiple ways if needed, but we like his long-term outlook behind center. His athleticism shows up both inside and outside the pocket, giving him the ability to extend plays when protection breaks down. Hurricane will provide a fresh opportunity for Altizer to establish himself, and he'll be an intriguing quarterback to follow over the next three seasons.

Hardesty stood out on the JV team as a freshman and appears ready to compete for a varsity role this season. His speed jumps off the film on both sides of the ball, allowing him to play fast and make plays in space. Whether carrying the football or chasing it down on defense, he showed the athleticism to be around the action. There's still plenty of development ahead, but the early traits point toward a player with breakout potential. Hardesty is a name worth following as he begins earning more opportunities at the varsity level.

2029 James Monroe QB [player_tooltip player_id='1591192' first='Bentley' last='McCroskey'] checks in among the Top 10 quarterbacks after showing intriguing long-term upside. We first saw McCroskey before his freshman season and came away impressed with the athletic tools he brought to the position. After transferring back to James Monroe, he looks like a strong candidate to eventually take over as the Mavericks' starting quarterback. His length and athleticism give him dual-threat ability, and the experience he gained playing multiple positions early in his career should only help his overall development. McCroskey is still growing as a passer, but the foundation is there for him to develop into one of the better quarterbacks in the class.

Brandon is the type of player who becomes dangerous whenever the ball is in his hands, using his speed, quickness, and shifty running ability to create big plays. He has the athleticism to make defenders miss and turn routine touches into explosive gains. Brandon has all the traits to develop into one of Poca's next dynamic offensive playmakers in the future.

2029 Hurricane TE/K [player_tooltip player_id='1716514' first='Paxton' last='Bocook'] is an intriguing developmental prospect with the versatility to help in more than one phase of the game. After seeing him at our Exposure Series, we came away liking his long-term outlook most at tight end. His sturdy 6'0 frame gives him a solid foundation to build on, and he has the size to become an effective blocker while developing into a reliable target in the passing game. There's still athletic development ahead, but he has flashed enough ability to be encouraged about where his game is headed. Bocook also has potential as a kicking prospect, adding another layer to his value. As he continues to mature physically, he has the tools to become a productive all-around contributor for the Redskins.

2029 Wheeling Park QB [player_tooltip player_id='1683457' first='Maxx' last='Taylor'] debuts in the rankings as a Top 10 quarterback after an encouraging freshman season on their younger squad. His current 5'8 140 frame limits his projection compared to some of the bigger quarterbacks in the class, but his play on the field earned him a spot in the rankings. Taylor is a good athlete who extends plays with his legs, stays poised outside the pocket, and has a knack for creating when the play breaks down. He also consistently throws with good touch and accuracy. If Taylor adds size over the next few years, he has the tools to climb the quarterback rankings.
