2028 [player_tooltip player_id='1691522' first='Quincy' last='Mills'] – Marion County High School

[player_tooltip player_id='1691522' first='Quincy' last='Mills'] is a talented cornerback at Marion County, coming off a strong sophomore campaign in which he was one of the best players in Tennessee. He played in all 14 games, totaling 40 tackles, three for a loss, a team-high six picks and nine pass deflections. The 2028 prospect heads into next season as a consensus three-star recruit and one of the top players in the 2A classification.

He's a compact player, standing 5-foot-10 and weighing 170 pounds, but he's a feisty defensive back who produces at a high level despite lacking top-tier size. Mills has high football instincts and that ball-hawking ability that you can't necessarily teach. Whether it's an interception or a tipped ball, he always seems to disrupt the passing game. The rising junior is a physical player who doesn't mind dishing out contact, as he's proven throughout his high school career.

Mills needs to clean up parts of his game, but I love the upside with this 2A defensive back. He has many impressive traits and physical tools, along with a gritty mentality and play style that have helped him achieve significant success. With another offseason to develop, you should see one of the best players in Tennessee take that next step in 2026.

2027 [player_tooltip player_id='2085665' first='Lane' last='Parker'] – Happy Valley High School

[player_tooltip player_id='2085665' first='Lane' last='Parker'] is an intriguing prospect coming off a successful year as a starter at Happy Valley High School. The rising senior totaled over 100 tackles, nine being for a loss, three sacks and a team-high six interceptions. He took that next step in 2025, making him a legitimate college prospect.

He's a compact DB, standing 5-foot-9 and weighing 180 pounds in a lean, athletic frame that allows him to maintain his fluidity. Parker is a good all-around defensive back, but is highly physical and excels when he plays closer to the line of scrimmage. The 2027 prospect has good ball skills, which is why he intercepted six passes, but he fits the perfect mold of a box safety.

I like his footwork and range of motion, along with solid burst to get downhill well. Parker is a relatively technically sound player, but you can always improve in that area. He should be one of the recruiting risers for this upcoming cycle, especially after he develops further this offseason.

2027 [player_tooltip player_id='2065483' first='Zaiden' last='Humphrey'] – Marion County High School

[player_tooltip player_id='2065483' first='Zaiden' last='Humphrey'] is one of the more underrated defensive backs in Tennessee, regardless of classification. He's played throughout his high school career, but took that next step in 2025 when he earned a starting spot. The rising senior had a productive season, totaling 43 tackles, three for a loss, one interception and nine pass deflections in 13 games played.

He possesses good size, standing 6-foot-2 and weighing 180 pounds, with a lean, long frame that makes him an attractive prospect for the next level. Humphrey has excellent range and the ability to move sideline to sideline well, which is why Marion County lets him roam in center field. The 2027 recruit has good ball skills, high-level football instincts and good vision.

Something that goes unnoticed is his physicality, which is quite impressive for his position. He is not afraid to make contact, and he's typically the one dishing it out. His footwork and technique are solid but could be polished. That's the two main areas I'd like to see him improve on during the offseason, but I like the upside.

2027 Cole Hackett – Smith County High School

Cole Hackett is one of the best defenders in Class 2A and is coming off a breakout season as a junior, totaling 54 tackles, five interceptions and one forced fumble in 10 games He proved to be a very reliable option in the Smith County secondary, with one final season to prove himself to college coaches.

He's an undersized player, standing 5-foot-11 and weighing 155 pounds, but he plays very hard and has good instincts that keep him productive on the gridiron. Hackett is quick, plays with a high motor, has a good amount of physicality and plays solid coverage. The 2027 prospect can tackle well, too.

2028 [player_tooltip player_id='1704649' first='Jayden' last='Lanier'] – Mt. Pleasant High School

[player_tooltip player_id='1704649' first='Jayden' last='Lanier'] is an exciting young player coming off his first season as a varsity starter, during which he was productive. In 12 games, he totaled 33 tackles, three interceptions and one pass deflection while earning Prep Redzone Class 2A All-State honors. He's improved this offseason and looks to take that next step as a junior.

He offers good size, standing 6-foot-2 and weighing 188 pounds in a lean, athletic frame that allows him to maintain his fluidity. Lanier is a versatile guy who's capable of playing anywhere in the secondary. He has good ball skills and solid coverage, but needs to become more polished in the latter area. The 2028 prospect plays with a high motor and does not quit on the play until he hears the echo of the whistle.

An underrated part of his game is the physicality he brings as a defensive back. He is not afraid to hit and does so with authority. His technique is solid, along with nice footwork. Lanier has the tools to play at the next level, but must become more polished overall.
