Spring sports and graduations are giving way to summer training activities as we roll into the latter stages of May and the early start to summer training and other sports.

From the training knot hole it is the critical summer gauntlet when ballers pin their ears back, get locked in on what is left to do in the next couple of months and put the finishing touches on their off-season training.

There will be the usual summer noise and distractions to deal with but that is all part of the game.

Stay focused. Get back to work.

You haven't come this far to let your opponent get the edge because you chose to chase something else.

In this report we will take a quick look at five multi-positional/skill players from each of the returning classes who have been playing off-season sports but have also been locked and loaded on being ready to excel this fall.

So, without further adieu, let's check out what these guys have been doing so far in 2026:

[player_tooltip player_id='2128205' first='Chase' last='Cain'], 6'1, 175, QB/ATH, Olathe North, '29, he is a multi-sport, dual-threat quarterback rapidly approaching his sophomore season and is ready to put his skills on display. Last fall he ran and passed for 1,800+ total yards and 24 touchdowns on the freshman/JV squad and was 5 of 10 for 77 yards in some late-season varsity action. His off-season has been busy playing hoops and just wrapped up baseball. This summer he is continuing to work with QB coach, Justin Hoover, twice a week, as well as lifting and doing speedwork. He is also planning on hitting camps at KSU, KU and Pitt State among others. His training is paying off as he is bigger and faster since last year and set PRs in all the key lifts. With a year under his belt and a solid off season look for this guy to impress this fall.

[player_tooltip player_id='1619539' first='Maysen' last='Dodson'], 5'10, 195, RB/WR, Spring Hill, '28, next up is a multi-positional rising star for a strong Bronco squad who was just getting warmed up last fall when he piled up 550 yards rushing on 66 carries, averaging 8+ yards per carry and scored nine TD's. He also had 20 receptions for 343 yards, a 17+ yard average and four more touchdowns to give him 1,000+ all-purpose yards and 13 touchdowns. With his quickness and explosive burst he blows through arm tackles and is particularly elusive in the open field. He has been playing off-season sports while focusing on football training with Ignite Sports and has been locked in working on technique and footwork with position specialists. This guy is going to be a dangerous weapon running, receving and returning this fall.

Owen Filing, 6'1, 215, LB/ATH, Blue Valley NW, '28, up next is another baller coming up on his junior season who has been flying under the radar somewhat but that is going to change in a hurry this fall. Last season he showed glimpses of things to come with 50+ tackles, a couple of tackles for loss, a sack, and a forced fumble in five games of action. A versatile linebacker who can play inside or out, he is a pile-driving hitter with a good finishing burst stopping the run game. His off-season has been lasered in on training with @HarperIsland24 for speedwork and positional focus, as well as training with teammates in the school's off-season program. He recently had a good performance at the KC Varsity combine and has put on 15 lbs since last season while getting faster. This guy is ready for the spotlight this fall

Tommy Trucksees, 5'10, 175, DB/WR/K, Shawnee Mission East, '27, first up for the guys getting ready for the all-important senior season is a versatile, three-way player who is a reliable receiver on off-offense, a kicker on special teams and was a ballhawk safety on defense. He was impressive coming out of the secondary to make big open-field tackles and with his excellent read and react skills and instincts flying to the ball had 52 tackles and intercepted a pass. As a kicker he had 14 points and interestingly also recovered a pair of on-side kicks. This off-season he has been playing basketball, just wrapped up track and will be practicing four days a week and lifting five for football, as well as continuing to play hoops. His training is already reaping dividends as he put on 15 pounds while getting faster. This guy is ready for a big year this fall.

[player_tooltip player_id='2060818' first='Isaiah' last='Wakes'], 5'10, 175, DB/ATH, Salina Central, '27, last and certainly not least is another baller getting ready for his senior season and one who is coming off a junior year as a member of the 5A State Champions last fall. He has flown under the radar somewhat but is going to breakout this fall as a versatile, hybrid d-back who can play as a shut-down corner, as a sticky nickelback in the slot or play over the top as an instinctive safety who is a big hitter collapsing down on the run. Last fall he was in on 16 tackles, had a pair of tackles for loss and 10 pass break ups. He has been busy this off-season as a standout high jumper and plans on an active summer with numerous camp invites. With a championship season experienced and gifted measurables - 38" vertical and a 4.6 forty - he is ready to bust out this fall.

In conclusion, get out and see these talented players this fall - you won't be disappointed! Also, if you know of any players not getting any/enough coverage that they deserve, please feel free to DM me via X so we can take care of that!

And, most importantly...

Keep Grindin'
