August will be here before we know it but before pre-season practice begins there are the summer months to attend to in order to make one last push to be ready for this fall.

The summer months are challenging as there is a ton of distraction with school being out, vacations coming up and all the summer activities that tempt players to periodically skip training and go have some fun like kids should.

But for the ballers striving to be elite that is not an option.

In this report we will take a quick look at three standout ballers approaching the all-important senior year, followed by a couple of guys ready for breakout performances in their sophomore and junior seasons.

So, without further adieu, let's check out what these guys have been doing so far in 2026:

[player_tooltip player_id='1530394' first='Julian' last='Gallegos'] , 5'11,195, LB/DB, Eisenhower, '27, first up for the soon-to-be seniors is an aggressive, mauling, brawling linebacker who can also drop back and play as a hybrid safety. He uses his baller instincts and next-level closing speed tracking the ball and hammers runners in their tracks. Once the season was over he went right into basketball and hitting the off-season weight training hard. Over the last couple of seasons he has been in the 100+ tackle range and is looking to shatter those numbers with a big senior campaign. He has a busy summer mapped out, getting stronger, faster, and more explosive lifting, doing speedwork, fine-tuning position skills and is also considering a number of camps. This baller is ready to show that he is one of the top linebackers in the state this fall.

[player_tooltip player_id='2058132' first='Parker' last='Pinks'], 6'4, 285, C/OL, Salina Central, '27, next up is a powerful offensive lineman who helped lead his team to the 5A state championship as well as establishing school records as one of the most powerful offensive units in the state last fall. He is versatile enough to play anywhere along the line of scrimmage as a guard or tackle in the Mustang's scheme, but has really excelled as an anchor in the middle at center where he uses his lower-body strength and physicality to blow open holes in the run game. He also has good feet and hands sealing off in pass pro and when he locks on the result is usually burying the defender in the turf. He is also quick enough to chip off to the next level and take out fast-flowing LB's. This guy has been flying under the radar but that will change quickly this fall.

[player_tooltip player_id='1464032' first='Mason' last='Isch'], 6'1, 205, LB/ATH, Wamego, '27, last and certainly not least for the fast-approaching seniors is a baller athlete who head coach Weston Moody recently said has the perfect blend of speed, explosiveness and physicality. High praise indeed from a veteran coach who has seen numerous high-octane ballers over the years. As an outside LB he has great instincts and read and react skills shutting down the perimeter on his side, or storming the gate coming off the edge rushing the QB. Last fall he dominated with an eye-popping 111 tackles, 16 TFL, six sacks and a forced fumble. He has been busy this spring on the track team establishing new PRs in the discus (156'+) and shot (56'+) and has continued training for this fall. Get your popcorn handy as this guy is getting ready to put on a show this fall.

[player_tooltip player_id='1658644' first='Max' last='Walters'], 5'10, 180, LB/ATH, Centralia, '28, next up is baller coming off a strong sophomore season and is one I have been following since early last year. When the season started last fall he was playing junior varsity but by the end of the year he earned a starting spot on varsity. He didn't waste any time showing his potential, as he stepped up with a standout game making 10 tackles from his linebacker position in a game where the Panthers claimed the district title. He has had a productive off-season, training with Revive Performance, focusing on speedwork, as well as a balanced program of plyometrics and powerlifting. He is also pounding the weights in the team's off-season program and working to get bigger and more explosive. This guy is going to have a big year this fall.

Jacob Becket, 6'5, 190, QB, Manhattan, '29, wrapping up we have a high-ceiling gunslinger quarterback who is coming off a freshman year when he showed glimpses of great things to come. With prototype size and athleticism already, he can sit in the pocket and shred the defense with his versatile arm, or execute the RPO seamlessly showing off his running skills. Last fall on JV he played lights out, rifling 15 TD passes, completing 70%+, and ran for another nine scores, including four 100+ yard rushing games. His off-season has been busy as he went right into playing varsity basketball and then this spring is a pitcher and 3rd baseman on the baseball team. He has also been training with his teammates in Manhattan's top-tier training program to get ready to defend their 6A title from a year ago. This guy is an exciting prospect to watch develop this fall.
