Some RBs in WNY already have several D1 offers and those players have been well documented. There are also those who have flown under the radar but are still worth noting and could be breakout candidates in 2026. Here, I will cover each of those athletes from top to bottom.

TOP TIER

It is no secret who the top two rushers in WNY are. Canisius' [player_tooltip player_id='778700' first='Elijah' last='Kimble'] and St. Francis' [player_tooltip player_id='1202404' first='Tyrone' last='Clark Jr'] have dominated the ground game since their Freshman seasons amassing over 3,000 career yards a piece. Both have also garnered several offers from top notch colleges from Ohio State to Syracuse.

Another RB that doesn't post the numbers as Kimble and Clark but has the tools to be amongst the best is [player_tooltip player_id='1257837' first='Owen' last='Kicinski']. Kicinski is also one of the most versatile players in the entire area. He can play the RB very well as a breakaway runner but can also lineup in the slot with his phenomenal receiving skills. Defensively, he is an exceptional shutdown Corner.

Ranked RBs

There is no question that Echeverria is the most critical component to Frontier's success. He has explosive quickness and can break free at any time. He is an exceptional returner with a low center of gravity and is hard to bring down. The Falcons have won 4 games in the last three years but a new Head Coach this season brings some hope and Glen will be a big part of their turn around.

Pratt is a short, stocky bull dozing RB that is very difficult to tackle. It rarely takes one player to bring him down. He has very good instincts and follows his blocks very well. The Tigers are bringing in a new Head Coach with a new culture. This change will hope to bring positive attention to CeeJay and Amherst as a whole.

I first started tracking Overholt when he was on JV in 2024 and he showed a lot of toughness between the tackles. Clarence had difficulty finding their identity last season but Jake has the potential to lead the Red Devils in rushing as a senior.

Davis has played second fiddle the last two seasons in the Hillbillys backfield but displays the patience to run behind his blockers and could emerge as Fredonia's leading rusher.

For the last two seasons, I have predicted that Brown would be the breakout star of the year. But each year, the Warriors had a different player in mind to lead the backfield. He was used sparingly as a junior but consistently averaged 6 yards per carry. He has good intuition and possesses fantastic balance to be a premier RB.

Monterro had a huge coming out party week 1 of last year vs Starpoint, running for 80 yards and a pair of scores. For the rest of the season, Kyler split carries during the Trojans dominant 2025 season. For 2026, Monterro transferred to McKinley where he is expected to be the workhorse.

Bensink goes unnoticed because he is a small school product. But he was the spearhead to Chautauqua Lake's Far West Regional win. He is a tough runner that has amassed 1,700 yards on the ground and over 20 TDs in two seasons. Look for him to eclipse the century mark as a senior.

Rainey is an exceptional athlete that can be a breakout star at RB with excellent speed or he can be a terror at WR with a knack for tracking the ball in the air. Jaiden is also a solid DB and will have several options when it comes to collegiate recruiting.

Watch List

Jordan Brown (Williamsville North) - An exceptional runner with a nose for the endzone. The Spartans offense should revolve around the prowess of Brown and I expect a 1,000 yard season with 10-15 TDs

Josh Urban (West Seneca East) - The Trojans ran with a six headed monster in the backfield last year so his numbers were not off the charts. But an injury in the playoffs proved to be detrimental as his absence in the Section VI championship was costly as West Seneca East lost to Lackawanna 44-22. With Monterro off to McKinley and provided he is 100% healthy, Urban should be in for a monster senior year.

Aiden Phillips (Alden) - Philips was the Bulldogs leading rusher, receiver and top return specialist with over 1,200 All-Purpose yards. Alden as a team took a major step back in 2025 winning just 2 games. But the success that the team can have will bring some well deserved attention to Philips.

Hea'von Lee (Cheektowaga) - Lee is a new name to me as Cheektowaga is a floundering program but looking at his film, he is somewhat of a diamond in the rough. He has good size at 6'1 190 lbs with breakaway speed. He is always moving forward and tough to bring down.

Ayden Wronski (Fredonioa) - Wronski is a big fish in a small pond. He had a solid junior year with 750 yards on the ground and 5 scores in his first year as a workhorse RB.

Some RBs in WNY already have several D1 offers and those players have been well documented. There are also those who have flown under the radar but are still worth noting and could be breakout candidates in 2026. Here, I will cover each of those athletes from top to bottom.
