This is a big year for the Class of 2027. Final year hitting the camp circuit. Final year of high school football. Final year to make the impression that will earn these kids offers from the next level. Some of these athletes are in a position where it is really time to step up and prove themselves this year, take the reigns, and show what they can do on the field both during camps and when the season roles around. The time is now with camps about to heavily kick off. Let's take a look at just a few members of the 2027 RB position who are ready to prove that they are next level athletes.

The time is now for the overwhelming RB out of Hortonville. Over the past couple seasons we haven't been able to see the 6'2" 225 lbs RB contribute consistently, but when he is able to see the field the big man delivers. His elite frame looks like it can handle the workload, but the '27 will need to show that he can stay healthy on top of proving he has the traits to play at the next level. What tape he does have gives me faith that he can really flip a switch this year and prove to be one of the best at the RB position in WI. That will be after a summer where hopefully we see him produce athletic testing numbers that verify his ability to play at the next level. The raw tools are there. Time for the Hortonville product to prove he belongs.

Jerell has had to spend his career playing second fiddle so far. That looks like it will be changing in 2026 as Jerell will be the leading rusher coming back to the Indians this fall with his 740 yards and 9 TDs from last fall. The soon to be senior surely looks ready for the job with that thick, powerful frame that can handle the load of being leaned on by an offense. Lucky for him and college coaching staffs his legs are more fresh because he hasn't had to do that yet. But 2025 will be his time in the spotlight. A spotlight where he can continue to show off his hard-nosed running style and ability to bounce off tacklers. The physicality, patience, and vision are all there on his tape. If he can also put up numbers testing and show he can catch the ball this summer then we are going to see a spike in his attention. Keep a close eye on the Mukwonago standout.

This is going to be a big year for Darcel. The 2027 RB is coming off a junior year where he led North with 473 rushing yards and added 3 rushing TDs. He will be the leading rusher returning in 2026 by far for the Lightning, so I will be looking for the offense to lean on him. That should give him a great chance to continue to prove himself worthy of the next level. The 5'9" 180 lbs RB is a powerful runner thanks to his bowling ball frame. When this kid gets rolling downhill it is hard to slow him down and even harder to try and get him knocked off balance. This summer is going to be the even bigger proving grounds. That is where we will get to see how he runs and the agility he has to his game. I'm excited to watch him compete and hope to cross paths with him at a camp or two this summer.

2026 is shaping up to be a great year for Nazir to prove the type of athlete he is. He will be the leading rusher returning to Racine Horlick, the school he now attends, after going for 211 yards and 5 TDs in 2025. Before we even get around to Week 1, Nazir should already have a lot of reps under his belt proving that he can play at the next level. It is the superiorly athletic student-athletes who shine most during the camp cycle. The ones who can post strong numbers and let their balance, agility, and overall ease of change of direction shine. That is Nazir's game. He is an RB who can go from 0 to 100 by the time he is breaking through the line. The '27 also has strong tape playing DB as well. The natural athlete is ready to prove it in his final year of high school football.

Hunter pulled the short straw in 2025, missing all of the season besides the first five quarters of the season with an injury. That sets the stage for a monster opportunity to prove he belongs at the next level. Step 1 will be to leave no doubt that he is fully healthy and still the same explosive back that he was pre-injury. The tape has me excited even though it is short. It shows a kid with burst and agility. Someone who can catch the ball downfield. The backfield looks open for competition for a lot of carries too. This is shaping up to be a perfect storm for Hunter to prove himself starting with the camp circuit.

Liam was a spark plug for the Kettle Moraine offense in 2025. An athlete who was a threat to create big plays without needing a lot of touches. Liam proved that when he has a hole he can accelerate and get to that second gear in the open field quickly. He can also create big plays in the passing game and return kicks. At 5'8" 180 lbs the 2027 RB has also shown that he can use that low center of gravity to power his way through contact and gain yards after taking hits. Starting this summer it is time for Liam to leave no doubt that he is someone who can put LBs at a disadvantage any time they have to play him 1 on 1. I'm excited to see what he does compared to other RBs that he will be grouped with.
