Notes From the Trail: AL New Names Picking Up D1 Buzz

Here are some new names who are picking some up, or are on the verge here, as coaches continue to rule the interstates.    Wilkerson's size might give FCS programs easier access to his signature, and if he lands at that level, he would gift one of those schools with a well-rounded skillset, that is if those schools stay away. He plays LT with a true IOL build, but regardless, he has the foot speed to mirror pass rushers and kick out to meet wide-9 rushers, better than pretty much any player at his size and stature that I've seen in the class. He has true mauler flashes as well. He has strong, manipulative hands at the point, which will improve as his hands get tighter. He stays anchored, engaged, and drives blockers through the turf. A lot of green flags on tape from Wilkerson.     Offer 1 from Bowling Green just rolled in for Gaison-Salanoa, who should see more attention roll in at a southeast powerhouse in Thompson. He has plenty of horsepower at the point of attack, measuring in at all of 6'4 303 with the strength and mass to hold the point, even with a jump in competition. He is active as well with the athletcism, foot speed, hand play, and motor to work hard to free himself and pursue the ball, at least in the gaps. The stock will continue to rise here as more and more coaches learn about him.     A pair of in-state FCS offers this spring put Washington on the radar, and now FBS coaches are starting to swing by to check on this late bloomer on the trail. He is listed at 6'3 220, but he really plays bigger than that with his broad shoulders and long arms. Sudden, explosive athlete who often beats blockers to the point and can shoot gaps. His motor runs hot, and he aims to inflict violence as a tackler, but he still engages blockers patiently and doesn't play himself out of plays. There's plenty of tread on the tires here, and he plays hard, so he can find the field as he continues to develop into the best version of himself.     Bell offers some position flexibility, but he will project on the interior long-term. and could even generate some C buzz if he is short of his listed 6'4. Everything starts with his first step. He is explosive off the snap and has some pop at the point of attack, which I believe will improve as he gets stronger. He has good foot speed, helping him recover against contact and work hard to displace. Bell is quick, has some pop in his pads, and plays hard. There's some upside here as well as he inches closer to the 300-pound mark.     This is my first look at Laws, who has jumped on the D1 radar this offseason. He is just a really steady player on tape, playing well at each level of the field and doubling as a productive returner. He is a smooth, fluid athlete who skates across the grass and gears down well at the top of his routes. He is surprisingly tough in space, staying on his feet by pulling himself through contact.     Cook is another intriguing Enterprise product who could pick up some D1 traction here soon. He is a bit undersized as a TE, but he will project more as a big-slot anyway, using his hands and size to be a sure-handed intermediate option for QBs. He has some pop as a blocker and looks willing to mix it up, so that part of his game certainly isn't non-existent. I think he will benefit from camping in front of college coaches and adding some context to his movement skills.     A handful of offers for Gee this offseason have put him firmly on the radar headed into his senior season. He is a stout, strong IOL projection with easy power and manipulative length. Might not have as much pop as other FBS IOL prospects, but he sure has the power. When his hands arrive, he easily stalls defenders. Gee just handles business and his high floor has the attention of FBS coaches, and will throughout the rest of the offseason.
