It'd been a minute since I checked on the recruitments of prospects in Iowa's 2027 Class. It was time to update their processes.

Here's a closer look at five talented guys still searching for college homes:

[player_tooltip player_id='1840100' first='Xavier' last='Jones'], LB, Sergeant Bluff-Luton

Announced offers: North Dakota State, South Dakota State, Augustana, South Dakota, Northern Iowa, Illinois State.

The Situation: I wrote about what I saw on Jones' junior film back in March. In part, it read: He's an impressive athlete with length, and a frame capable of adding good weight and strength.

Colleges have taken notice of his season for a Sergeant Bluff-Luton team that reached the UNI-Dome in November. The 6-foot-2, 200-pound linebacker visited Iowa State in November. North Dakota State jumped in with his first offer during a campus visit on Jan. 24. A week later, he picked up a South Dakota State offer when he visited. Augustana, South Dakota, Northern Iowa and Illinois State have since offered. He visited the Coyotes.

Jones holds some excellent opportunities. That said, he has a high ceiling, which could be recognized by more programs at summer camps. He'd be wise to hit up as many as possible.

[player_tooltip player_id='1219585' first='Eddie' last='Kennedy'], DB, Waukee Northwest

Announced Offers: None.

The Situation: Like others in this rundown, Kennedy is a really good athlete with a high ceiling on the football field. It's a projectable 6-foot-2, 180-pound frame that can fill out in a college strength and conditioning program while maintaining speed and agility.

Kennedy, who recorded a personal-best 6-2 in the high jump this season, is competing at the state track meet this week for CIML champion Waukee Northwest. He reports a 34.1-inch vertical leap and a 4.5-second laser time in the 40 yard dash.

Grand View played host to Kennedy for a game this past season. The junior visited St. Thomas, Drake and Augustana for junior days this winter. He was back at Drake in April and stopped at Iowa Western on May 1.

Eastern Illinois, Drake, St. Thomas and Northern State University have invited him to compete at their camps during the next few months. He could really benefit from getting in front of those coaches and others who might ask him to come to their events.

[player_tooltip player_id='1654034' first='Jordan' last='Gruhn'], LB/TE, Clinton

Announced Offers: Northern State University, Sioux Falls.

The Situation: Tucked away by the Mississippi River in Clinton, Gruhn rose up to catch the attention from college coaches early in 2025, when North Dakota State, Eastern Illinois, Drake and South Dakota inviting him to summer camps. Northern Iowa picked up its interest early last season, and he visited Cedar Falls for a game in September. The Panthers visited him at Clinton in December.

Iowa State assistant coach Michael Banks watched Gruhn work out at the school at the end of January. That was at around the same time South Dakota State was in Clinton. In early March, Gruhn took in a Cyclone junior day.

Northern State University became the first school to offer, doing so in April when he visited Indiana State, Northern Illinois and Drake. That month, national champion Indiana invited him camp. Sioux Falls offered a scholarship last week.

I wrote about Gruhn's game a few months ago after watching his junior highlight video. He flashed plenty of potential and could rise up the rankings with a strong showing in the summer camp circuit.

[player_tooltip player_id='2044013' first='Will' last='Litton'], DL, Regina

Announced Offers: Missouri Western State.

The Situation: I've watched Litton compete in person multiple times the last few years. The last occasion was in the state semifinals, when I filed a scouting report on the talented lineman. The upside for the 6-5, 215-pounder was noticeable.

Colleges have caught on. Missouri Western State became the first program to offer a scholarship when it did so last week. Litton visited Iowa State last month.

Litton is a high-end athlete as evidenced by him earning all-state recognition in basketball this past winter and being a first-team all-stater in baseball last summer. He could really take off on the gridiron when he gets to college and focuses his attention on one sport, if he so chooses. Competing at college camps the next few months would expose football coaches to the tremendous potential here and likely earn him more opportunities.

[player_tooltip player_id='1361305' first='Karter' last='Alberts'], OL, Cedar Rapids Kennedy

Announced Offers: None.

The Situation: Alberts has been on the radar of college coaches for some time now. He camped at Iowa last summer after being invited to similar events at Iowa State, Purdue, Kansas State, Wyoming, South Dakota and elsewhere. He visited Western Michigan for a game this past season.

North Dakota, North Dakota State, South Dakota and Northwest Missouri State visited Alberts at Kennedy in January. He visited South Dakota and Upper Iowa in March. Northern Iowa, Northern Illinois, Valparaiso, Coe and Winona State met with him at school this month.

Alberts is receiving a host of college camp invites, including from Kansas State, Kansas, Cincinnati, Boston College, Rice, Central Michigan, UAB, North Dakota State, South Dakota State and Drake. If he hasn't secured an offer before then, there's a really good chance that happens when he competes in front of staffs in the coming weeks.
