FORT MILL | The 10 fastest guys at the Carolinas Coaches Combines Invite Only session at Fort Mill High School had a lot in common.

They all ran in excess of 20.6 miles per hour. They all showed that speed in competition as well as in the speed test. And they all received invitations to the SHREDmill Invitational next month in Denton, Texas. The Invitational is an exclusive high school level speed and athletic performance event hosted by SHREDmill, the makers of a non-motorized resistance treadmill designed for acceleration and sprint training.

But for their similarities, there were quite a few differences as well. Each brought a variety of skills to the Invite Only session, and showed something beyond just speed.

As could be expected, the bulk of the speediest guys were receivers, with six of the 10 fastest players at that position. They made a bunch of plays in the 7-on-7 portion. Fort Mill's [player_tooltip player_id='1820446' first='Jameson' last='Terrell'] was one of the standouts, and looked good both splitting coverage in the middle of the field and turning in a long gain and using his speed on the outside to get past a defender and high-point a touchdown catch. Cheraw's [player_tooltip player_id='1271257' first='Nick' last='Gordon'] was another guy who showed great flashes, notching good catches against tough coverage and really stretching the defense out. Gordon and Terrell were both among the fastest players at the Spartanburg session of the combine, and they backed it up at Invite Only.

[player_tooltip player_id='1214316' first='Ant' last='Williams'] from Bamberg-Ehrhardt turned in some big plays, and it's evident that he'll continue to be a weapon on both sides of the ball for the Red Raiders. [player_tooltip player_id='1603911' first='Isaiah' last='Small'] from Ridge View is in the same situation. With a talented QB back from injury and a back that will eat up yardage, Small is more than capable of being the burner that can take some of the pressure off and take the top off a defense, and he showed that on Sunday.

Then there were the Pattersons. They're from opposite sides of the state, but the guys with the same last name opened some eyes with their performances. West Florence's [player_tooltip player_id='2163989' first='Cory' last='Patterson'] looked great both sprinting and running routes, and had a good day overall.

"I thought I did pretty good," he said. "I had fun out there, and I feel like I got a lot better today."

[player_tooltip player_id='1820807' first='Sam' last='Patterson'] (pictured) from St. Joseph's tied for the day's top time and used that speed to win some reps in competition.

"I felt good today," he said. "My routes felt smooth and I got some chances in competition. I had a couple of guys who were throwing to me a lot, so that was nice."

Two of Sunday's fastest players were running backs. Summerville's [player_tooltip player_id='1215391' first='Jayven' last='Williams'] and Cross' [player_tooltip player_id='1172364' first='Mah'ky' last='Green'] showed not only explosive speed, but also great balance and vision. Both looked good in drills, and were one-cut-and-gone guys in competition.

The other two players who posted the fastest times were standouts on either side of the ball. Northwestern QB [player_tooltip player_id='232624' first='Xavier' last='Means'] couldn't really show off his speed during 7-on-7 drills. What he showed instead was incredible touch and the ability to make any throw asked of him, as he directed the North offense well during his reps. On the other side of the ball, Dorman DB [player_tooltip player_id='1708614' first='Jabez' last='Thomas'] helped lead a mini-lockdown for the North defense. He had the first of what turned into two straight interceptions for the North, and he looked great in tight downfield coverage.
