FORT MILL | The Carolinas Coaches Combines Invite Only event is kind of a different animal.

No measurables except for a speed test. No combine event. Just drills and competition, and the only way to stand out is through the way you move and how you play.

A bunch of guys found ways to stand out anyway. And there's more of that style of competition in the very near future, as 7-on-7 work during the summer will give guys a chance to boost their stock headed into their senior years.

Pelion's [player_tooltip player_id='1618829' first='Brady' last='Cottingham'] is one of those guys. Cottingham is going to play a little bit of everything for the Panthers. On Sunday, he was listed at LB. Cottingham looked really good in drills and moved well in competition. He did pretty much everything asked of the LBs, and that backs up the things he's done on the field. He had 92 tackles and five tackles for loss last season, adding two sacks and four hurries. But he also played some QB for Pelion. And was second on the team in rushing. And caught a pass. So yeah, pretty much whatever the Panthers need. He showed the explosiveness that's the key to that kind of versatility at Invite Only.

"I feel like I had a pretty good day," he said. "It was great to have a chance to get out here and compete."

Here's a look at some other guys who made the most of their opportunities.

[player_tooltip player_id='1149055' first='Nasir' last='Waldrop'] RB, Powdersville

Waldrop is plenty fast, but that's only part of what makes him special. In the short run segment of competition, Waldrop showed vision and balance, making cuts that left some LBs reaching. His ability to bounce outside is one thing, but he's also really good at making one cut and then getting right back to full speed. That cut-and-go ability served the Patriots well, as Waldrop rushed for more than 1,000 yards while also giving Powdersville some spark in the return game.

[player_tooltip player_id='1847467' first='Logan' last='Stokes'] WR, North Central

Stokes looks like a guy who gets better with every rep, and he more than held his own against guys from bigger schools on Sunday. He made one of the toughest catches of the day over the middle, then turned it up and looked to make something more out of it. That seems to be the kind of thing that's become a hallmark for Stokes, who's a steady possession-type receiver who can make teams pay. He's another guy who will play all over the field once the pads go on.

[player_tooltip player_id='1172344' first='Ray' last='Harris'] DL South Aiken

At 6-foot-2 and 280 pounds, Harris certainly looks the part. Then you watch him move. He's got long arms and good feet, and he uses leverage to his advantage. He was a constant presence during the competition period on Sunday, holding his ground when needed and getting upfield easily when that was required. He looks equally good in run defense and rushing the passer, and last year's 80 tackles, 17 tackles for loss, and two sacks prove that Harris is more than capable of being a leader for the Thoroughbreds.

[player_tooltip player_id='1172368' first='Andrew' last='Massey'] LB, Hilton Head

Massey looked every bit like the stat sheet stuffer he is during Sunday's event. He showed fast-twitch ability, great lateral movement, and a nose for the ball. None of that should be any kind of surprise. Massey is coming off a junior year in which he was Region Defensive Player of the Year, with 93 tackles, 14 tackles for loss, a sack, and three hurries. He also forced a fumble, recovered a fumble, and broke up four passes. He's a high-motor guy who's going to make you notice him.

[player_tooltip player_id='1603963' first='Mason' last='Evans'] QB, Crescent

Evans has been grabbing a lot of attention with some of the things he's done in camps and combines. Sunday was another in a line of those. He looked particularly good throwing the ball, especially on a couple of throws from one side of the field to outside the opposite hash with plenty of velocity and accuracy. The thing about Evans is you're never going to see his true value until the pads are on, the rush is live, and he's able to beat you with his feet. Until then, he'll keep opening eyes with his throws and presence in the pocket.

[player_tooltip player_id='1319663' first='Royce' last='Williamson'] WR, Gray Collegiate

Williamson is a go-get-it guy, and he notched a couple of really good catches against tight defense on Sunday. He ran good routes, particularly downfield, and he showed a knack for getting open and adjusting to the ball wherever it was thrown. Williamson was one of the Eagles' leaders last season, and a couple of graduation departures should pave the way for him to take on an even bigger role in the fall. He plays on both sides of the ball for Gray, and he'll be a guy they can count on.

[player_tooltip player_id='1809702' first='Amari' last='Dogan'] DB, South Pointe

One of the first notes we wrote down during the competition session was about the tight coverage provided by North 14. The fact that Dogan's name is the one found by that number makes that note the least shocking thing on the day. It's what he does, and he does it really well. Dogan's length and speed make him a tough matchup, and he knocked down 12 passes a year ago. With a deep Stallions secondary depleted a bit due to graduation, he's going to be called upon to do more. He absolutely can.

[player_tooltip player_id='1822691' first='Triston' last='Diggs'] OL, Carvers Bay

Diggs is a big, strong kid who moves really well for his size. With limited contact allowed, you can't really see the power that Diggs possesses, but rest assured it's there - he put up 35 reps on the bench at 185 pounds, and he was responsible for more than 30 pancake blocks as a junior for the Bears. He's got really good feet and that allows him to use that power even more to his advantage - he rarely gets caught reaching and does a great job of getting himself into a position to win.

[player_tooltip player_id='1581467' first='Brooks' last='Dow'] QB, Pickens

We've talked about Dow before, but it bears repeating: he can sling it. He showed touch on every throw, but he was outstanding when getting the ball downfield, showing great mechanics as well as top-tier ability. He threw several really good downfield balls, hooking up with a variety of receivers on scoring plays. He's another QB who is equally dangerous with his legs, but his arm talent is scary.

"I had a couple of reads that I could have done better, but besides that I think I had a great day," Dow said. "The first group I ran with in 7-on-7, we had a good connection and I think we all performed pretty well. It was fun."
