Warren Academy 18U Shines On Home Turf

We had teams all over the region (and Canada!) competing in La Vista, Nebraska and the competition was outstanding from start to finish. In this breakdown, we're taking at Warren Academy and their 18U teams. They had a couple teams that performed incredibly well in the tournament this weekend. We're putting the spotlight on five of their standouts. Keep it locked in to Prep Redzone for more content to come out from this tourney!</p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p><strong>[player_tooltip player_id='2158752' first='Adrian' last='Gonzales'] - 2027 Wide Receiver/Defensive Back</strong></p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>For the second straight weekend, 2027 standout [player_tooltip player_id='2158752' first='Adrian' last='Gonzales'] has stood out at a Prep Redzone 7v7 tournament. Last weekend, Gonzales was dominating both sides of the ball at our Missouri tournament. But he was shining the brightest on offense. This weekend, it was what he was doing on defense that really caught our attention. Gonzales is a terrific athlete and the leaping ability is off the charts good. But while he was lined up at safety, you could really see his closing speed and his sudden burst that just builds up his rep as a really strong athlete in the Nebraska 2027 class. Once again, he was one of the better two-way players in the tourney. </p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p><strong>[player_tooltip player_id='2152956' first='Braylen' last='Warren'] - 2027 Quarterback</strong></p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>Like a few others, this was the second straight weekend that we watched 2027 signal caller and Missouri commit [player_tooltip player_id='2152956' first='Braylen' last='Warren'] up close and for the second straight week, he backed up the hype. Warren came into the tourney as arguably the top quarterback prospect and it was easy to see why. Despite the windy conditions on Saturday, Warren was delivering passes on a rope and was incredibly precise with his ability to move the team up and down the field. Warren's passes were cutting right through the wind and he showcased a unique blend of accuracy and overall arm strength. There's a reason why he's one of the top 2027 prospects in Nebraska and it was on full display this weekend. </p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p><strong>[player_tooltip player_id='2129213' first='Hudson' last='Friesen'] - 2028 Wide Receiver</strong></p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>2028 wide receiver [player_tooltip player_id='2129213' first='Hudson' last='Friesen'] had one of the more clutch plays on Saturday during pool play. Warren Academy found themselves in a back and forth game that was incredibly chippy throughout. The intensity was at an all time high and Friesen ended up giving Warren Academy. In the final seconds, Friesen was on the receiving end of the game-winning touchdown. He had a strong day overall on Saturday but there's no doubt that it was the game-winning touchdown that got our attention and earned him a spot on this breakdown. He ended up being one of the top performers for the 18U division from pool play on Saturday. </p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p><strong>[player_tooltip player_id='2136228' first='Nolan' last='Demke'] - 2028 Wide Receiver</strong></p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>2028 wide receiver [player_tooltip player_id='2136228' first='Nolan' last='Demke'] played up with the 18U squad this weekend. Last weekend, he was one of the standouts on their 15U team that won the title in Missouri. This weekend, Demke brought that precise route running that impressed our writers last weekend to the 18U level. On Saturday, Demke immediately caught our attention. He ran precise routes and it seemed like he was open on every single play. And now normally, that's simply an exaggeration but while I was watching, Demke got separation with ease and also knew when to sit down in soft spots in the defense. Because of that, he was one of the top producers in the 18U division on Saturday. </p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p><strong>[player_tooltip player_id='1085158' first='TayTay' last='Jenkins'] - 2027 Wide Receiver</strong></p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>This Nebraska tournament last year was the first time I got a chance to watch 2027 wide receiver [player_tooltip player_id='1085158' first='TayTay' last='Jenkins'] in person. He was dominant during that tournament and he's been dominant while watching him over the last two weekends in Missouri and Nebraska. Sunday, during bracket play, Jenkins was absolutely dominant and one of the better wide receivers in the 18U division. He's a big reason why they made a run to the championship game. And in the championship game, Jenkins was one of the best players on the field. He's a very dynamic wide receiver that uses his shiftiness and strength to get easy separation from unsuspecting defensive backs. </p> <!-- /wp:paragraph -->
