announced his commitment to play for Illinois. We caught up with Johnson to see why the Illini were his choice.
“Illinois just felt like the right decision. I have a great relationship with Coach Parker and the whole staff so I believe it's the best place for me to grow and develop to the next level.”
He went on to discuss how he feels he fits in their system on the back end of the defense.
“I feel like I fit well anywhere they need me to be, but Coach Parker wants me at corner and I'll just be adding on to the good DB room they already have!”
What type of prospect is the Big 10 program getting? Johnson is a plus athlete that impacts on the defensive side of the ball. Corner that has good technique and makes plays on the ball. Excellent footwork in short areas. Good change of direction and fluid hips. Makes plays without getting interference calls. Like the size at 6'1” 180 pounds. Has a track background.
Johnson also held offers from Iowa, Louisville, Purdue, Northwestern, Stanford, Washington, Minnesota, Michigan State, Wisconsin, Toledo, Wyoming, Rutgers, Cincinnati, Iowa State, and Miami (OH).
He is the #4 defensive back in the class and third ranked corner in the state checking in at #27 overall.
