In this report, we are checking out gunslingers from each of the returning classes. Many of these guys will be considered among the best in the state by the time the dust settles this fall.

As a quick reminder, we are devoting parts of February and March to focus on key position groups to get coverage for as many players as possible in the '26 off-season.

So without further adieu, let's take a closer look at these guys:

[player_tooltip player_id='1970828' first='John' last='Hornback'], 6'0, 185, QB, St James Academy,'27, first up is a multi-sport baller and rising star dual-threat quarterback who accounted for 2,828 total yards and 30 TD's last fall and established himself as one of the top QB's in the state. He has an electric all-around game, firing surgical strikes from the pocket but can also rifle it from different arm angles and has great ball placement on the move. He also has the speed and quickness to be a threat running the ball or extending plays. Once the season ended he went right into hoops and will play baseball this spring. He is also fine-tuning his passing working with Jake Christensen, and leading team workouts. This spring he will be busy with junior day visits and hitting camps at Pitt State, North Dakota State and NE Oklahoma. His play on the field and numbers off it - school record in the vertical at 38", 10'2 broad jump are next level. This guy is going to be en fuego this fall.

[player_tooltip player_id='2063081' first='Cale' last='Ketter'] , 6'2, 180, QB, Topeka Seaman, '27, up next is another QB who started the season flying under the radar but by the end was among the most prolific passers in the state. For the season he completed 136 of 231 passes for 2,013 yards, completing 60%, and rifled 23 TD passes to only six picks and had an impressive 110 passer rating. He showed his skills in a big way in a back-and-forth 47-40 loss to state runner-up Basehor-Linwood, when he was 25 of 44 for 390 yards and five TD's. As a passer he shreds the defense at all three levels and can make the deep-velocity throws with great accuracy. He has good feet and mechanics in the pocket, but can also throw well off platform and rolling out either way. This off-season he is getting in his groove playing 7v7 with Grindtime, while also honing his passing skill sets with Justin Lewis. He is also still deciding on junior day and camps to hit. This guy will bring some serious fireworks this fall.

[player_tooltip player_id='2078662' first='Michael' last='Dunn'] , 6'4, 200, QB/ATH, Blue Valley SW, '28, up first for the juniors-to-be is a young gun QB who I have had my eye on for awhile now who has prototype size, arm and athleticism and last year got an opportunity to showcase his potential as a sophomore. In particular, against De Soto early in the year, he was a sizzling 17 of 31 for 426 yards and rifled five touchdown passes. A three-sport athlete, he went right into hoops once the season was over and is running track this spring. He has also been working on his passing skills in the off-season, fine-tuning his game in 7v7 with Grindtime and is working with QB coach Justin Hoover on footwork and mechanics, as well as pounding the iron and doing speedwork. He is planning on hitting camps at K-State, KU, Utah, and is considering others. This guy checks all the boxes scouts are looking for and with some experience last season under his belt is going to unleash the air attack in 2026.

Tre Hafenstein, 6'0, 190, QB/DB/ATH, Central Burden, '28, up next in this class is a multi-talented baller who was flying under the radar coming into last season but has changed all that. As a sophomore he piled up 1,618 total yards, including 782 passing yards, 836 rushing yards, and 16 total touchdowns. On defense as a hybrid LB/DB, he added 45 tackles. He is a rising-star QB who can deliver when his team needs it, but is also a multi-positional player who can help the team in numerous positions as needed. His off-season is already off and running as he went right into basketball and is playing baseball this spring. He is also getting ready for a busy camp season as this week he hits the You Are Athlete All-American Camp in KC. He is also planning on the Lincoln University Prospect Camp, the University of Arkansas Prospect Camp, and Manning Passing Academy in Louisiana, which has become an annual pilgrimage of his late in the summer. This guy is the real-deal and is going to light it up this fall.

[player_tooltip player_id='1738191' first='Kellen' last='Weisguth'] , 6'0, 180, QB, Blue Valley West, '29, first up for the young guns is a guy who is getting ready to put his thumbprint on the varsity game this fall. He saw some limited time last season backing up a senior QB so there weren't many opportunities but when he played freshman/JV ball he was a dual-threat gunslinger, completing 136 passes in 233 attempts for 2,171 yards, a 60% completion percentage, 27 TD passes and scored three times on the ground. His passing mechanics are solid, with smooth shoulder rotation and a quick release. He throws an accurate ball, slicing and dicing in the short game but has the arm strength to dial up the long ball. Once the season ended he went right into basketball and will play baseball in the spring. He is also working with QB coach AustinAllen, has the Elite 11 camp coming up and is still deciding on additional camp/combines. This guy is ready to take it to the next level with a standout season this fall.

[player_tooltip player_id='2128205' first='Chase' last='Cain'], 6'0, 170, QB, Olathe North, '29, he is another up-coming sophomore dual-threat QB who I am expecting big things from this fall. And, although he did see some post-season action on varsity, it was when he was allowed to ball out on the freshman/JV squad that he was able to show his high-octane game with 1,380 passing yards and 17 TDs, ran for another 442 yards and seven TD's for 1,800+ total yards and 24 touchdowns. As a passer he delivers pin-point ball placement on the short-to-intermediate passes but can also launch the long ball in stride down the seams. Once the season ended he went into basketball and will play baseball this spring. He has been in the off-season grind already, working with QB coach, Justin Hoover, twice a week, as well as lifting and doing speedwork. He is also planning on hitting camps at KSU, KU and Pitt State. This guy is going to be a force to be reckoned with this fall.
