The coverage on position groups and what they are doing in the off-season to get ready for this fall continues.

Today we are taking a closer look at some of the rising-star defensive backs from each of the returning classes.

Kicking off the report is a young baller who started as a freshman defensive back for 6A State Champion Manhattan, followed by another secondary ace coming off a strong sophomore season and then wrap up with a handful of standout d-backs getting ready for a light's out senior season.

So without further adieu, let's take a closer look at what these guys have been up to and what their plans are for the rest of the off-season.

[player_tooltip player_id='1663254' first='Adonis' last='Dunnigan'] , 5'11, 175, DB/WR, Manhattan, '29, (PICTURED ABOVE) up first is a next-level baller who launched his varsity career last fall as the first freshman in 30+ years to start for the Indians and along the way helped his team win the coveted 6A State Championship. He is a multi-positional player who can sizzle as a game-changing WR, but where he is especially gifted is as a versatile DB who can live in the receiver's pocket as a lock-down corner or sink back and use his ballhawk skills at safety. He is already an elite technician and coupled with his athleticism and instincts is getting D1 attention, including an offer already from Miami. Once the season ended he went right into training, working on the nuances of the position with his Pops, playing 7v7 and has a stack of camp invites to consider this spring. What I was most impressed with however, was when we visited he didn't want to get into any of his accomplishments and only talked about taking on a leadership role for the team and building chemistry with his teammates. Get your popcorn ready this fall, it's show time for this guy.

[player_tooltip player_id='991686' first='Blue' last='Zambo'] , 5'10”, 165, ATH/DB, Mill Valley, ‘28, up next and representing the juniors-to-be is a guy I have had my eye on since his freshman year. He is another rising-star two-way playmaker who is a dangerous receiver on offense but has been turning heads as a defensive back who can dominate anywhere in the secondary. He performs at a high level as either a suffocating shut-down corner with the speed and athleticism to blanket receivers but also uses his instant read and react skills and a nose for the ball to excel as a predatory safety. Once the season ended he went right into training, lifting and doing speedwork. He is also playing 7v7 for Strongside KC and this weekend had three impressive one-handed interceptions in pool play. This spring he will run the 100, 200, and 400 in track. With plenty to choose from, he is still finalizing his camp schedule for spring and summer. This baller is getting ready to bring the fireworks this fall.

[player_tooltip player_id='993089' first='Rett' last='Daniels'] , 6'1, 205, DB/LB, Blue Valley North, '27, up first for the approaching seniors is a ball-buster of a defender who can play outside linebacker or strong safety. Last year he put the state on notice when he piled up 110 tackles, 15 tackles for loss, three sacks, three forced fumbles, a pair of fumble recoveries, one returned for a TD, picked off a pass and added a blocked field goal. He is a violent hitter with great closing speed that he uses to blow up plays before they get started. With his fine-tuned instincts and next-level athleticism he can smother receivers in man coverage or read the QB's eyes and pounce on the route in zone. Once the season ended he moved right into off-season training with Kendrick Harper. He is also lifting hard, hitting PR's in all the major lifts (including a school-record 320 hang clean), will run the sprints in track and is finalizing his camp schedule. This guy is on the cusp of a blow-out senior year.

[player_tooltip player_id='1125656' first='Kobie' last='Henley'] , 6'3”, 185, ATH/DB, Salina South, ‘27, this guy caught my eye early last year as a dynamic safety with next-level size, length, speed and skills that helped his team make a dramatic surge at the end of the season which included two upset vistories in post-season. With D1-size and athleticism, he is a disruptive force in shutting down the opposition's passing attack, but can also fly to the ball and stuff the run when backs try and hit the perimeter. For the year he had 82 tackles from his safety position and added two tackles for a loss. This off-season he has been busy, doing technical defensive-back training to continue perfecting his craft, while working on mechanics and fine-tuning his footwork. He has also been lifting hard in the school's training program, working on quickness and agilities as well as getting in a lot speedwork, with his forty now in the high 4.5's. This guy may have been under the radar last fall but he is going to dominate in '26.

[player_tooltip player_id='1539784' first='Cooper' last='Harris'], 5'10, 160, ATH/DB, Hutchinson, '27, and last but certainly not least is a guy I have been following for awhile now and his multi-positional game just keeps getting better and better. He just wrapped up a standout wrestling season as one of the best in the state in his weight class and has since shifted gears to playing 7v7 and getting ready for track season. As a two-way player he is versatile enough to excel at any of the offensive skill positions, including QB, but will probably play mostly RB/WR. On the other side of the ball he can play anywhere in the secondary but has really impressed as a centerfield safety who can dismantle the other team's passing attack but also quickly diagnose and attack the ball in the run game. He intends to stay busy through spring and summer training with his team and is also in the final stages of deciding which camp-combines to attend. This guy is primed and ready for a breakout senior season this fall.
