Teammates earning LSU offers among LA's 2028 recruiting updates

Prep Redzone Louisiana ran through some of the top recruiting updates among the state's rising seniors during the past week, including a couple new commitments and another on deck for this week.   The rising junior class, the 2028 prospects, are still a good ways from seeing that type of movement start picking up — certainly more than just a potential one- or two-off.   But the recruiting action overall for the group is definitely starting to pick up in its own due timeline, including some major offers and other developments.   Here's a look at eight of the bigger updates from the group as the calendar approaches April.   [player_tooltip player_id='1372214' first='Chance' last='Archangel'] — 6-3, 225 EDGE/DL — Westgate   and [player_tooltip player_id='1372221' first='Cayden' last='Lancelin'] — 6-0, 175 WR/DB — Westgate   Not a lot of question where this rundown deserves to start. A pair of teammates, two of Prep Redzone Louisiana's top prospects for the class going back to before they even began their ninth-grade years, became two of the state's first handful prospects to earn offers from home-state LSU. Both Archangel, the disruptive edge rusher, and Lancelin, the big-play receiver, have been highly recruited by programs all over the region and country, but the latest hit particularly close to home and significantly for a pair of student-athletes who grew up admiring the Tigers' program and had anxiously awaited that offer throughout their recruiting processes thus far.   Shamar Evans — 6-2, 210 LB — Ruston   A relatively new name from a Prep Redzone Louisiana standpoint, but a major prospect to know with whom some fans may have already been familiar prior to his move into the state. Evans already held more than a half dozen offers when he moved from Forest, Miss., to Ruston this winter, and he's only gained steam during the past month and a half with Syracuse, Auburn, Texas A&M, SMU, LSU, Ohio State, Bowling Green and Arkansas more than doubling his list. As mentioned with Archangel and Lancelin, only a handful of 2028 prospects in Louisiana have earned LSU offers, speaking to the significance of that development. Evans is slated to debut near the top of PRZLA's rankings for the class during the next update.   [player_tooltip player_id='1145834' first='Caiden' last='Bellard'] — 5-10, 190 RB — Lafayette Christian   Another of those five first LSU offers to in-state prospects in the 2028 class, the Knights' star running back has only continued to explode on the recruiting trail during the past month-plus. Houston and LSU marked his first two offers at the end of January and then mid-February, respectively, and TCU followed about a week after the Tigers. Thus far in March, he's also added Louisiana (Lafayette), Liberty, Illinois, Ohio State, Florida State, Miami, Arkansas, USC and Louisiana Tech.   [player_tooltip player_id='1372155' first='Calvin' last='Ursin'] — 6-2, 190 WR/DB — Dunham   Rounding out the 2028 prospects holding early LSU offers, Ursin had a nice start to the new year — and his time at a new schools following his transfer from Live Oak to Dunham — with a couple of January offers from Kentucky and Louisiana Tech. During the past few weeks, he's also added Louisiana Tech and TCU to his offer list, already as one of the state's top-ranked prospects and with all signs pointing to his most productive season yet now on deck for this fall.   D.J. Neal — 5-9, 200 RB — Franklin Parish   As mentioned earlier this offseason, the Patriots' sophomore running back quickly went in January from largely under-the-radar gem for most recruiting media and fans to squarely in the thick of a recruiting process gaining steam as Arkansas and South Alabama extended his first offers. He recently added Louisiana Tech to that early list, but also notably was invited to LSU's junior day as one of the younger guests, has made two trips to Baton Rouge during the past week-plus and has been established as a clear name to know in the class.   Branden Boles Jr. — 6-1, 180 WR— John F. Kennedy   One of the other notable stock-risers in the class to monitor as this offseason continues, the Cougars' standout pass-catcher recently added a Liberty offer to Washington State, Syracuse and Florida Atlantic previously on his early list.   [player_tooltip player_id='1372169' first='Jaden' last='Keelen'] — 6-0, 190 DB — John Curtis   Already a highly ranked prospect on Prep Redzone Louisiana's lists throughout his high school career, the fast and physical defensive back's newest offer this month came from Charlotte, bringing his total past a dozen after a big 2025 offseason and a couple January offers. Additionally, though, he has forced recruiting media around the region to take notice with his camp performances, including recent MVP honors among defensive backs at both Rivals in Houston and Under Armour Next in New Orleans.
