As we get deeper into the month of March, the 2026 high school football offseason is in full swing. With that being said, we have begun a new round of rankings updates in the state of Kentucky. The class of 2027 is our latest update to be released with an updated Top 225. Now that those have been released, I have been taking the past couple weeks to break them down by position. After already covering the offensive side of the ball, I have now turned my attention to the defensive side of the ball. With the front seven already taken care of, here are our top defensive backs in the class of 2027 in the state of Kentucky.

[player_tooltip player_id='1217741' first='Allen' last='Evans IV'] has cemented himself as one of the top overall players in the state. He is a lockdown corner on the outside where he thrives in man coverage. Evans does a great job of using his hands and length to jam/redirect receivers with ease then use his speed to run with them to mirror their routes. When the ball is thrown his way, he reacts with perfect timing to make a play on the ball, finishing this past season with two interceptions and several pass breakups in 15 games. He also recorded 28 tackles and one tackle for loss as a junior. Allen is committed to Louisville where I can see him making an immediate impact at the next level.

[player_tooltip player_id='378835' first='Jordan' last='Haskins'] has proven that he is one of the best players in the state in his class over the past few seasons. Haskins is a dynamic playmaker at safety who is very impressive in pass coverage. He has great instincts, reading the quarterback and route combinations effectively then using his speed to cover a ton of ground to make a play on the ball once it is in the air. Jordan finished his junior year with three interceptions (tied for team lead) in nine games. Haskins also accounted for one sack as a junior and proved to be very reliable against the run, finishing the year with 50 tackles and one tackle for loss. He also spent some time at quarterback this past season, throwing four touchdown passes while also running the ball 32 times for 160 yards and four touchdowns. Haskins recently committed to Louisville where I can see him developing into a key piece of their secondary unit once he gets there.

[player_tooltip player_id='1596532' first='Elijah' last='Burns-Crump'] is a player who has truly made a name for himself over the past couple seasons. He lines up at safety where he is very impressive in coverage. Elijah does a great job of reading routes then flowing through the secondary accordingly to put himself in position to make a play. When the ball is thrown in his direction, he reacts with perfect timing to break on the ball and make a play. He finished this past season with four interceptions in 15 games, returning two of them for touchdowns. Elijah also recorded 56 tackles, four tackles for loss, and half a sack as a junior. Burns-Crump holds a long list of Power 4 offers and I expect them to continue piling up for him this offseason.

[player_tooltip player_id='408628' first='Jordan' last='Holman'] climbed up our rankings with a strong junior year. Holman lines up at strong safety where he has proven to be very effective against the run. He does a great job of reading the play quickly then coming downhill to fill the lane with a sense of urgency to get to the ball carrier. Once he gets to the ball carrier, Jordan explodes through contact and finishes his tackles with a ton of physicality. As a junior, Holman led his team with 77.5 tackles in 14 games along with eight tackles for loss and 2.5 sacks. He has also shown the ability to line up in the nickel and play man coverage against slot receivers, using his speed to mirror their routes then showing the awareness to break on the ball with perfect timing to break up the pass. Jordan currently holds offers from Missouri, Kentucky, Miami (OH), and Toledo, and I wouldn't be surprised to see more come his way soon.

To wrap up our top five defensive backs in the class of 2027 in the state of Kentucky, I have [player_tooltip player_id='1314812' first='Cionne' last='Conn']. Cionne lines up at safety where he has proven to be very reliable in coverage. He does a great job of dropping into his zone then reading both the quarterback and route combinations to put himself in position to make a play. When the ball is thrown his way, he reacts with great timing to make a play on the ball. Conn finished his junior year with a team-high three interceptions in 13 games. He has also shown the ability to come downhill to provide support against the run, finishing this past season with 55 tackles and two tackles for loss. Cionne holds multiple Division I offers and I expect that list to continue to grow heading into his senior year.
