Shadowing the QBs: 813 Hawks and 24K Passers I’ll be Following

At 7v7 events where I lead coverage, there are a lot of eyes on the quarterback. Coaches, teammates, parents, media, evaluators.

But most of those eyes catch moments. A big throw. A mistake. A highlight. A stat line.

What they rarely capture is the full picture.

That's where shadowing comes in.

When I say I'll be shadowing a quarterback, I mean I'm committing to following that player from behind, literally behind the passer, for every rep he takes during the event. Every dropback. Every rollout. Every read. Every throw.

Good or bad.

Completed or incomplete.

Perfect placement or slight miss.

Nothing gets filtered out in real time. The goal is not to chase highlights. It is to document the entire body of work.

From that back field perspective, you see things the sideline angle does not always show.

Footwork consistency
Base balance and weight transfer
Timing from snap to release
Shoulder alignment and torque
Decision speed
Ball trajectory and placement
How a quarterback resets after a mistake
How he responds when a read is not clean

It is an evaluators angle.

It is the same vantage point a quarterback trainer would use to diagnose mechanics. The same view a college coach might want when studying how a passer operates snap after snap, not just when everything goes right.

**** I'll do my best to record as many QBs as possible. I cannot guarantee complete coverage, yet I'll be recording QBs not mentioned in this piece for 15+ hours throughout the 2-day event's span.

14 years old, 2030 QB who is someone that will eventually be ranked on the PRZ Florida site. 3.8 GPA, several early offers, some from the likes of Syracuse, Central Florida, Sacramento State, and Miami.

Has tape from a bout against Lakeland in which he completed 19 of 21 passes for over 250+ yards and three scores. Easily one of the QBs in our 15U bracket that I'm most excited to record and study. Has a few reps at DB, making him all the more interesting a prospect to evaluate. I'm out of the loop on all things Florida Preps, watching him this weekend will help me fully grasp his athletic/recruiting potential and ceiling. Now on 15U, I'm making the trip out to see he and his program, I have a feeling they'll make the trip worth while. At 7v7 events where I lead coverage, there are a lot of eyes on the quarterback. Coaches, teammates, parents, media, evaluators.
