FORT LAUDERDALE – Talk to any college coaches who recruits the state of Florida and bring up the defensive secondary and you will be greeted with a smile from ear-to-ear.

This is a position that for nearly a half century has been a place where many elite prospects have been born as they began their career that often ends up in the National Football League.

Because of the athletes that are produced throughout the state annually, many end up playing safety or cornerback after starting off on the offensive side of the ball.

Whether it's a shutdown corner or a hard-hitting safety, the Sunshine State is known for churning out these quality playmakers.

As we end our look at last Sunday's Rivals Miami Elite Camp at St. Thomas Aquinas High School, here is a position that was indeed a focal point for the recruiting analysts and media who attended the event in hopes of discovering some new talent – while checking out those who were already on the radar.

BLACKSHERE MAKES A STATEMENT

Considered as one of the top athletes on a Miami Norland team last year, Alan Blackshere was talked about by coaches who had watched him perform.

While he played several positions, the 6'4, 195-pounder was one of those prospects that was projected at several positions. After his move to Miami Carol City this off-season, he made it clear at the Rivals.com event that this Sunday he was the best defensive back and was awarded with the MVP award by the recruiting analysts on hand.

TAPE: https://www.hudl.com/profile/22887356/Alan-Blackshere

THERE WERE OTHERS WHO ALSO MADE AN IMPACT

While Blackshere was singled out as the MVP, he was far from the only secondary performer who turned up their game.

Among the rising seniors (2027) included David Coleman Jr. (Orlando The First Academy), Jermonty Kimbrough Jr. (Royal Palm Beach), Jaden Carey (Fort Lauderdale Saint Thomas Aquinas), Kyler James (Ocala Vanguard), Ahmaad Watts (Lakeland), Samari Howard (Fort Lauderdale Saint Thomas Aquinas), Jordan Booker (Sarasota Booker), Andrew Davis Jr. (Pembroke Pines Flanagan), George Harris (Miami True North Classical Academy), Nick Bothe (Jupiter Community), Kendrick Williams (Miami Killian), Ezekiel Herring (Miami Killian), Delorean Airall (West Boca Raton), Angelo Smith (Hollywood Chaminade-Madonna), Latroy Pender Jr. (Fort Myer Riverdale), Jemari Foreman (Plantation), Avier Jordan (Miami Central), and Devon Dericho (Miami Killian).

KEEP AN EYE ON THE FUTURE

As impressive as the 2027 prospects were, there were also some quality talent in the 2028 (rising junior) class – like Macho Walker (Hollywood McArthur), Kai Starks (Plantation American Heritage), Kahlil Gabaud (West Palm Beach Cardinal Newman), Justin Antenor (Southwest Ranches Archbishop McCarthy) and Andre Jones (Fort Lauderdale Saint Thomas Aquinas).

There were also Class of 2029 rising sophomore Derrick Jones Jr. (Hollywood Chaminade-Madonna) and Carlos Lopez (Coconut Creek Monarch).
