We're still 6 months away from the 2026 season, but there's no better time to predict breakout stars during the offseason who have flashed in the past but haven't fully broken out yet. The transfer landscape has yet to be finalized, which may impact some of these predictions in the future. However, here is one player from each school, listed in alphabetical order, that we believe will have a breakout season.

2028 East Fairmont WR/DB [player_tooltip player_id='2125761' first='Jaxson' last='Heskett'] emerged as a top playmaker for the Bees as a sophomore, earning All-Conference honors. After another offseason, we expect Heskett to take a step forward and build on the early success he had in 2025. Heskett does a nice job of finding space and gaps in defenses for easy throws from his quarterback as a reliable short and intermediate option at receiver. He can also take the top off the defense and be used in the vertical passing game when the defense lulls to sleep. Heskett has reliable hands and showed early upside as a route runner as a sophomore, with all the makings of a breakout junior year as a two-way player.

East Hardy 2028 RB [player_tooltip player_id='1624351' first='Nehemiah' last='Graham'] enters the offseason as a developmental prospect whose long-term upside continues to stand out. As the season progressed, Graham earned increased opportunities within the Cougars' offense, signaling growing trust and a role that could expand significantly moving forward. While his current evaluation is based on limited exposure, the athletic traits and natural tools are evident, and his ceiling projects higher than where he presently sits. With continued refinement, physical development, and the added benefit of a strong football lineage in his background, Graham is positioned to take meaningful steps forward over the offseason and could emerge as a breakout name in the next year.

The Elkins Tigers didn't need to throw much out of their Wing-T scheme last season with a three-headed rushing attack, but 2028 WR/DB [player_tooltip player_id='2125763' first='Xavier' last='Workman'] made the most of his opportunities. He made a bigger impact on defense as a defensive back, with 55 tackles and 2 interceptions in his sophomore year. Workman has a quality frame to continue building on at 6'0 170, and is capable of taking on a bigger role on offense when his chances come. If he played in a more spread offense, Workman showed he can put up much bigger receiving numbers with the length, ball skills, and athleticism he flashed in his limited WR reps as a pass catcher. Look for him to emerge as a potential breakout two-way player in 2026 in his junior year.

Fairmont Senior 2028 RB/ATH [player_tooltip player_id='1700918' first='Christian' last='Hrapchak'] heads into the offseason as a prospect whose role is trending upward, even as a full evaluation remains in progress. Hrapchak emerged as a key option in the Polar Bears' backfield this season, taking on increased responsibility and positioning himself as an important piece of the offense moving forward. While additional film will help round out his profile, his impact and trajectory are clear. The next step this offseason will be continuing to expand his role, add polish to his skill set, and solidify himself as one of the foundational players in the 2028 class. If that progression continues, Hrapchak has the potential to climb even higher and establish himself as a true breakout name over the next two years.

[player_tooltip player_id='2071211' first='Brady' last='Twigg'] was an underrated piece to Frankfort's state championship in 2025 and could break out as a senior with a bigger spotlight on him next season. Twigg performed well as a corner last season on a defense that held most offenses in check. He showcased his positional versatility last season, playing both corner and safety, with some reps in the box as well at times. Twigg is capable of taking on an offensive role as well in their Wing-T scheme and could see receiver reps as a senior. He's a quality athlete who can execute several different roles, which will serve him well next season as the Falcons look to earn their third-straight state title.
