The football off-season grind is really just that for the trench warriors along the front lines. There is no 7v7 for linemen, the camp/combine circuit has not yet kicked into gear, and with less and less coverage the further we get away from last season, it can feel like the dog days of training.

It can be a challenging, lonely grind if you don't approach it the right way.

The guys striving to be elite realize this and have made adjustments to ensure the grind stays both meaningful and urgent. Closely measuring progress to target, working with position specialists and trainers, carefully selecting workout partners, optimizing in-school training opportunities, stratifying last fall's tape and all the 1% stuff...you catch my drift.

These guys are used to not getting their proper share of the limelight, so laboring in obscurity is no impediment to progress.

And, as arguably the most important aspect of a dominating offensive unit, it is critical that the upperclassmen grinders pass that on to the young guns coming down the pike.

In this report we will take a look at some of the best and the brightest upperclassmen trench warriors who have committed the above to memory and are busy living the grind to help ensure a standout result this fall.

So, without further adieu, let's check out what these guys have been doing in the off-season:

[player_tooltip player_id='1125648' first='Maddox' last='McGinnis'] , 6'4, 299, OL, Wichita NW, '27, [pictured above] first up is one of the best trench warriors in the state at either guard or tackle. With his prototype size, length, explosiveness and physicality, he overwhelms defenders in the box and when getting out on the perimeter. Once the season ended he hit the ground running, working on strength, speed and agilities with Coach Rashad Daniels; heavy training and explosiveness with Coach Tabor and PIA and getting in extra workouts with Battle Ax - Gym + Sports, working on the nuances of leverage, body control and balance. The results have been outstanding, as he is at a lean/mean 299 pounds. He also has multiple spring visits lined up and will hit the camp-combine circuit this summer. This guy is the complete package, with strong intangibles and excellent grades to boot. This fall he shifts into seek-and-destroy mode one last time for the Grizzlies, don't miss him in action.

[player_tooltip player_id='557340' first='Warrick' last='VanBlaricon'] , 6'3, 285, OL, Salina Central, '27, speaking of best in the state, we have another candidate here who impressed scouts and coaches while helping his team win the coveted 5A State Championship. He is also a multi-positional baller who hammers defenders at either guard or tackle and has been one of the key factors in the offense averaging almost 50 points and 450 yards of offense per game. After hitting the camp circuit hard last year he decided to forego in '26 and focus on prep for his senior season, training locally with teammate and guard [player_tooltip player_id='2058132' first='Parker' last='Pinks'] , 6'3, 290, OL, '27, with Kegan Schumann at Revive Performance, and is already stronger, faster and more explosive than last fall. This baller checks all the boxes and then some and is getting ready to put a big exclamation point on his game this fall.

[player_tooltip player_id='1475567' first='Kaelin' last='Scarth'], 6'3, 275, OL, Derby, '27, up next is another athletic offensive lineman who established himself last year as a mauling, brawling force in the trenches as a right tackle or guard and by the end of the season secured all-state honors. With his size, strength and reach he also brings impressive athleticism, as he easily performs a walk-up basketball slam dunk. With that explosiveness, coupled with quick feet and agility and a baller attitude to blow up blocks at the point of origin, he consistently walls off in pass pro with violent hands, but can also pull and plaster defenders on the perimeter. He has had a strong off-season focusing on strength and speedwork and has put on 10 pounds while getting his 40 down to under 4.9. He has also been doing a lot of o-line technique work, focusing on kick slide and footwork as well as hip mobility and pad level. The Panthers are in good hands with this guy up front.

[player_tooltip player_id='944972' first='Zein' last='Rector'] , 6'1, 255, OL/DL, Nickerson, '27, he is coming off a standout season as the right tackle on offense and as a DT on the other side of the ball. On offense he was a pile-driving force with 30+ pancakes and the mobility to get out and block on the perimeter. On defense he had 20+ tackles and numerous QB hurries. With his powerful frame and quick feet he is a devastating run blocker who uses his skills and leverage to create gaps and is also brutally effective in pass pro. Once the season came to a close he went right into powerlifting and has not only gotten stronger and faster but has also set PR's in the vertical jump. Once powerlifting ends he moves into track and field while continuing to train for football in the school's new training facilities. Although not finalized, he is still considering which camps to hit this summer. He helped get his team on track last year and will be ready to take it to the next level in his final campaign.

player_tooltip player_id='1742790' first='Grant' last='Watkins'] , 6'3, 225, OL/TE/DE, Manhattan, '28, first up for the sophomore ballers is a guy who stepped up last fall as a trench warrior who started at right tackle for the 6A State Champion Indians and also played defensive end/edge on the other side of the ball. This fall his offensive coaches intend to weaponize his ideal size, speed and athleticism by moving him to tight end, while continuing in the trenches on defense. With his already-demonstrated prowess for jack-hammering defenders in the run game, he also brings a big catch radius, good hands and a physicality to the position that will enable him to keep the defense honest while stacking up big yards after the catch. He has been working with Sharp Performance on conditioning and the nuances of being a receiver, is getting ready to start baseball and is still deciding on camps. His efforts are paying off as his 40 is down to 4.6 while maintaining 225 pounds. This guy is gonna be en fuego this fall.

[player_tooltip player_id='1637868' first='Thomas' last='Inkelaar'] , 6'6, 315, OL/DL, Andover Central, '28, and last but certainly not least we have a a large and in charge two-way lineman who can play both sides of the ball, but is really impressing as an offensive lineman. With his size, powerful base, reach and quick hands, he is versatile enough to handle business at multiple positions in the run game and in pass pro, but has all the components of being a next-level offensive tackle. He can shut down the pass rush to his side and is a crushing blocker in the run game with good pad level and mechanics to go with raw power. He is another baller training with Coach Tabor and PIA, working out with some of the best and the brightest across the Wichita area. Track and field is next where he will throw the shot and is also in the process of finalizing his camp/combine selections for spring and summer. Get out and see the man-mountain while you still can.

In conclusion, get these guys in your sights as they are going to be destroying defenders this fall.

And, most importantly...

Keep Grindin'
