As we continue the Next in Line series across Oregon's 5A conferences, Special District 2 presents an interesting mix of established contenders and rebuilding programs working to develop their next wave of talent. Wilsonville once again established itself as the conference standard, finishing undefeated in league play and making a deep playoff push before falling in a competitive quarterfinal matchup against eventual state champion Silverton. Hillsboro also earned a postseason berth, while Canby and several 6A crossover programs battled through a competitive regular season filled with high-scoring matchups and developmental growth. With experienced senior classes leading many teams this fall, the number of underclassmen earning all-conference honors was relatively limited, but the players who did break through showed promising flashes of future impact. Here's a closer look at the freshmen and sophomores who made their mark and could shape the conference moving forward.

Grisham emerged as one of the more promising young defensive backs in the conference, earning second-team recognition despite being just a sophomore. Playing cornerback in a league with several explosive offenses requires both confidence and discipline, and Grisham demonstrated the ability to compete on the outside while holding his own against experienced receivers. His recognition suggests strong coverage instincts and the willingness to play physically in space. With another offseason to refine technique and continue developing physically, he projects as a key piece of Canby's defensive future.

Sophomore quarterback Joyce showed enough promise to earn third-team honors, signaling a strong foundation for Canby's offensive future. Quarterbacks at this level rarely gain recognition as underclassmen unless they demonstrate leadership and production beyond their years, and Joyce's inclusion highlights both traits. His development will be critical as Canby looks to build continuity on offense, and continued growth in decision-making and consistency could elevate him into one of the conference's top signal-callers moving forward. With valuable early experience already in place, his ceiling remains intriguing.

Sophomore linebacker Taylor broke into Wilsonville's rotation enough to earn honorable mention recognition, which is especially notable given the program's consistent competitiveness and depth. Earning honors on a playoff-caliber roster often speaks to strong practice habits and the ability to contribute when opportunities arise. Taylor's development within a successful system should accelerate his growth, and he could become a larger part of the defensive core moving forward. Expect his role to expand as he continues gaining experience.

Special teams often go overlooked in discussions about young players, but sophomore kicker Nava earned honorable mention recognition for his contributions. Consistency and reliability at the kicking position are rare traits for underclassmen, making his recognition even more notable. Developing specialists early gives programs a significant advantage, and Nava's inclusion suggests strong mechanics and confidence under pressure. Continued development could make him a dependable weapon in both field position and scoring situations.

Freshman linebacker Cid represents one of the youngest players recognized in the conference, and earning honors as a first-year player is always significant. Linebacker is a demanding position requiring physicality, processing speed, and toughness, and Cid's early recognition indicates he possesses natural instincts and a willingness to play downhill. For a program looking to build momentum, young contributors like Cid provide optimism for the future. As he gains experience and adds strength, his role could expand quickly.
