2027 Watchlist Check-In: Wide Receivers

There's plenty of talent on our watchlist, and we're breaking down the entire list. In our last <a href="https://prepredzone.com/2026/01/behind-the-scenes-of-the-2027-rankings-january-update/">rankings update</a>, we saw a host of players who rose after initially being listed on the watchlist. In this spring series, we're evaluating every player on our 2027 watchlist. Who knows? Maybe some of these guys make their mark in the next rankings update. Next up, the wide receivers.   <h2 class="wp-block-heading">2027 Watchlist Receivers</h2>   Editor's Note: If you want more information about how a player ends up on our watchlist, check out my <a href="https://prepredzone.com/2026/02/2027-watchlist-check-in-quarterbacks/">2027 Quarterback Check-In</a>, where I went in-depth on the mechanics behind our watchlist feature.    Hurst may end up ranked as a defensive back, rather than a receiver for us in the near future, but he had a breakout season on both sides of the ball in 2025. He has great ball-tracking skills and is a budding route runner. That helps, given he's explosive, too, averaging over 20 yards a catch in back-to-back seasons.     Garner did a bit more damage on the ground than as a receiver in 2025, and he put up around 200 yards from scrimmage. He has a path to more consistent touches, as Eastern Alamance graduates three productive seniors at the position. He's a jitterbug of a runner, who is hard to square up in the open field.     Reid was a bigger part of the offense in 2025, and he may have done enough to warrant an addition to the 2027 rankings. He has the speed to take the top off of the defense, and he had a couple of nice deep receptions as a junior.     The majority of Blackshear-Watson's touches came via handoff in 2025, but we still like the rising senior most at receiver. He can really run when he gets in the open field, and though he didn't have many chances to break off huge plays, he has that kind of athletic ability.     Sanford broke out in 2025, racking up over 400 receiving yards as a junior. He has some explosive ability and returned some kicks, as well. Franklinton's receiving corps is quite experienced and should be a strength of the team next year. Sanford knows his role and plays it well.     Mainly used on special teams, Jones is willing to do whatever he can to help the team, practicing at linebacker, running back, and wide receiver. The depth chart at Eastern Wayne opens up a bit in 2026, so we think he could crack the rotation.     Wilson has added a decent amount of weight in the last year, putting him in a better spot to compete. He played well as a junior on both sides of the ball, with 21 catches as a receiver, and a handful of tackles as a dime corner on defense.    This is the time of year when we have the most time to dive into film, re-evaluate prospects, and change our minds about players.
