14U Championship Sunday: Battle in Bama Day 2 Defensive Standouts

Many prospects stood out in an elimination game setting and built on their performances from the previous day. He's a physically imposing 8th grader who looms large over most athletes in the 14U group. Gundy's length and physical play generated several pass breakups each game as a shutdown defensive back on the outside. Once he hits some growth spurts and develops physically, Lowe Jr is likely to transform into a future high-level DB with the early traits that he showed during the Battle in Bama 7v7 tournament. He made plays as both a receiver and defensive back and could've been placed on either our offensive or defensive standouts articles. Barnes is a quick and twitchy young athlete with natural playmaking ability on both sides of the ball. Watkins did a nice job at defensive back on Sunday against some talented receivers in attendance in the 14U group that caught our eye. He may not have been as physically imposing as some of the athletes in the 14U group, but Anick forced you not to overlook him due to his size. His athleticism is impressive for his age and is a standout multi-sport athlete with a bright future in several sports.
