It's rankings season here at Prep Redzone Iowa. We're underway with updates after dropping the final Class of 2026 rundown just before the holidays and a 2027 revision on New Year's Eve. We've planned to refresh 2028 and issue our first 2029 rankings later this month.

In that pursuit, we'll be filing scouting reports on Iowa underclassmen right up to when those new ratings are released. Today, that takes us to the sophomore class. It's an important time for this group, whose members are early in their search for college homes.

Green flashed upside during his opportunities as a 10th-grader on the Indianola varsity in 2025 and developed on the sophomore team in preparation for greater contributions as a junior next fall. He rushed for 97 yards (4.2 YPC) and caught seven passes for 52 yards for the varsity. Green chipped in a pair of tackles, one of which was of the solo variety. When watching his sophomore varsity highlights, we witness a good athlete with size and a projectable frame. What's more, Green embraces the game's physicality and blocks his backside off. Indianola uses him as an H-Back that often leads the way for the ball carrier or picks up rushers in pass protection. The skill sets works on both sides of the ball. Green would benefit from camping with colleges this summer to see what might be his best positional path to the next level.

Rothmeyer contributed in all three phases as a 10th-grader on the Central Springs varsity. The sophomore rushed for 570 yards (8.9 YPC) and six touchdowns and caught eight passes for 83 yards. On defense, 25 of this 30.5 tackles were solo stops. He had 1.5 tackles for loss, forced a pair of fumbles, recovered a fumble, intercepted a pass and was credited with nine passes defended. Rothmeyer averaged 11.5 yards on four kick returns. There's not a lot of film on his Hudl page. During several clips of him playing running back, speed, burst and physicality show up on the film. Rothmeyer did enough as a underclassman to merit monitoring moving forward.

Fischer impacted the action for the Hawks as a sophomore in 2025. That's usually a good sign for the future when a student-athlete accomplishes something that early in the Ankeny program. He registered 20.0 tackles, 12 of which were solo stops, with a half tackle for loss and a half sack. Fischer picked off a pair of passes and was credited with seven passes defended. His 2025 highlight video impresses. While not the biggest guy on the field, he's physical and a technically sound tackler. In coverage, he back pedals and changes directions smoothly. Fischer is smart and instinctual in the secondary. He's one to watch moving forward and stops at college camps this summer could be beneficial.

In an otherwise difficult season at Roosevelt, Brooks Jr.'s performance provided hope that the future would be brighter. The sophomore recorded 19.5 tackles, 18 of which were of the solo variety. He posted 3.0 tackles for loss. He also picked off a pass and was credited with five passes defended. We can witness how Brooks Jr. gets the job done when watching his 10th-grade highlight video. He's a well-rounded corner capable of playing multiple forms of coverage. Brooks Jr. can press with some pop and quick recovery time. When he's off, the back pedal his smooth and the break on the ball fast. The foundation is here for a lot of future production in the secondary.

Spindler stood out to me when watching South Hardin during the Class 1A state semifinals at the UNI-Dome during December. The present level of production along with room for growth was confirmed during his sophomore highlight video. Spindler hauled in 13 balls for 161 yards and a touchdown, and averaged 24.2 yards on five kick returns and 8.0 on a pair of punt returns. He really shined on defense, however, with 36.0 tackles, 26 of which were solo stops. Spindler came up with 1.5 tackles for loss, three interceptions and five passes defended. He can line up in coverage on the outside or in the slot. Sometimes he slips into a safety look. A broad sets of skills help him defend the pass or come up in run support.

Ingram impacted games significantly in all three phases as a sophomore in 2025. He rushed for 379 yards (6.5 YPC) and five touchdowns, and caught 12 passes for 113 yards. On defense, 36 of his 44.0 tackles were solo stops with one tackle resulting in lost yardage. Ingram intercepted five throws and was credited with four passes defended. He averaged 22.3 yards on 15 kick returns, taking one of them back to the house. Ingram averaged 17.1 yards and scored a TD on 19 punt returns. There's not a lot of film on his Hudl page but enough to get the gist of his talents. On them, he lines up at quarterback, receiver, cornerback and safety. The athleticism and speed pop off the film.
