Outside of my usual range of coverage (Nebraska, Iowa), I ventured to Bridgeport to check out the Prep Redzone West Virginia Stock Up showcase, and I was very pleased with a small but talented group. In total, there were about 60 kids, which allowed us to focus on smaller groups of players and really dive into evaluations.

The wide receivers are the next group I am reviewing. Check out the standout pass catchers from Saturday's camp.

Morgantown's [player_tooltip player_id='1588447' first='Tanzer' last='George'] earned WR MVP honors after a strong overall showing across testing and 1v1s. During the combine session, Tanzer really stood out in the 40-yard dash and broad jump, where he recorded a 4.69 (3rd best) and a 9'6" (2nd best), respectively. George was also impressive in his route-running, displaying a quick release at the line, eating up a defender's cushion, and explosive acceleration through his breaks. He is very good at attacking leverage and can create separation at the top of the route. Tanzer has great hands at the catch point with elite concentration and toughness to hold on through contact. With a strong spring and summer of camps, Tanzer could be a big riser this offseason.

An out-of-stater from Ohio, Worthington Kilbourne's Shawn Rice, showed up and showed out at the WV Stock Up showcase. As a '28 prospect, I was impressed to see Shawn play at a level above his age. He blazed through the testing portion with a 4.8 40-yard dash, 4.7 shuttle, and a 9'0" broad jump. Shawn looks the part of a next-level receiver as he ran through his routes with clean footwork and change of direction at the breakoff point. At one point, I heard a coach say Shawn was selling double moves so well that he was even tricking some of the QBs on the reps. He is listed at 5'10", but plays a lot bigger than his frame, with the awareness to stretch out to maximize his catch radius. Sneaky deep ball— Rice will fly past you if you don't respect his speed. All the tools here to develop into a top-flight receiver.

With a small group of defensive backs in attendance, some offensive players took advantage by getting defensive reps, and a few benefited, including [player_tooltip player_id='2063850' first='Jacob' last='Frye']. Frye was already looking like a top performer in receiver drills and delivered strong reps at receiver and defensive back in 1v1s. Frye is a taller receiver at 6'1" with great length and room to continue adding some bulk to his frame. He posted solid numbers in the broad jump (9') and shuttle (4.81). What stood out about Jacob was that he seemed to catch everything thrown his way. He tracks the ball well and has big, soft, reliable hands for the ball to just loft into. Frye used his larger frame effectively when being physical to create separation and can adjust his body to box out defenders to make catches outside his frame. Under-the-radar gem!

Southmoreland's Jackson Mickens, out of PA, is a versatile athlete to keep an eye on in the '28 cycle. Jackson is listed as a DL/TE for PRZPA, but worked out as a WR/TE, has played some RB, and looked solid in reps at safety. Mickens tested well with a 9' broad jump, 4.8 40-yard dash, and 4.81 shuttle drill. Overall, this dude can ball and projects as a "just get this guy on the field" type of athlete. He is very consistent as a hands receiver, making sure to stick his mitts out to attack the ball in the air with the hand strength to haul in passes during contact. Very strong— he can fight through hand-fighting and jam attempts at the line of scrimmage. Very instinctive player who can identify how to attack DBs and pick up/defend route concepts when lined up on defense. Lots of upside!

Morgantown's Dominic Sallero is an interesting prospect in the WV '28 class. Dominic may be a smaller receiver, but he projects well as a slot threat, having shown he can shake off defenders in coverage. Sellaro does a great job of sinking his hips when changing direction, which allows him to explode and accelerate out of his breaks into a position to get open. Tough mindset with no hesitation to go over the middle of the field to make a catch. Sleeper prospect with tons of time to continue fine-tuning his craft.
