Outside of my usual range of coverage (Nebraska, Iowa), I ventured to Bridgeport to check out the Prep Redzone West Virginia Stock Up showcase, and I was very pleased with a small but talented group. In total, there were about 60 kids, which allowed us to focus on smaller groups of players and really dive into evaluations.

The first position group that I will review is the running backs, featuring playmakers from the 27-29 class.

Hampshire junior [player_tooltip player_id='1683406' first='Roscoe' last='Dean'] took home RB MVP honors after a well-rounded Stock Up performance. Dean started hot with a great combine session featuring a 4.7 40-yard dash, a 9'6" broad jump, and a 4.65 shuttle drill, which were all good for/tied for second among all attendees. The Trojans' back really impressed during positional drills, where he displayed twitchy footwork that allowed him to operate in tight quarters. Dean runs with a strong, balanced base, enabling him to change direction quickly, maintain a consistent pad level, and have strong contact balance. During 1v1s, Roscoe looked great as a route runner, showing he can attack the defender's leverage and create separation at the top of the route with reliable hands to reel in the catch. Solid build already at 6'0", 195 lbs, with room to continue adding some bulk to his frame at the next level. Definitely a player to watch in the WV 2027 class.

Doddridge County's [player_tooltip player_id='1591340' first='Lyric' last='Blake'] is an incoming junior who could be set up for a big year based on his performance at the Stock Up Showcase. Lyric posted marks of a 4.85 40-yard dash, 4.78 shuttle drill, and an 8'6" broad jump during the combine session. Blake looked solid running through drills, displaying a quick change of direction, clean footwork, and attention to ball security. In some competition drills, I was also impressed with Lyric's ability to make twitchy cuts and make linebackers whiff in open field situations. Blake had some strong reps in 1v1s, showing solid hands and route-running.

North Marion's [player_tooltip player_id='1311022' first='Brian' last='Poindexter Jr'] may be considered a "smaller" back, but there's no hiding his potential on the gridiron. Poindexter tied for the second-fastest 40-yard time with a 4.7 and also recorded a 4.7 shuttle drill and 8' broad jump. He is explosive out of his stance and can get downhill quickly with sudden stop/start when changing direction. Working the cones, Brian showed he can operate in a tight box with quick feet. Good receiver out of the backfield with the downhill speed to be a vertical threat.

John Marshall's [player_tooltip player_id='1624347' first='Dalton' last='Cooper'] is a "first off the bus" prospect who stands out by passing the eye test right away. Dalton has a strong, sturdy frame at 5'11" and 205 pounds, which will hold up well against defenses at the next level while also having the athleticism to be explosive. Dalton jumped out of the gym with a camp best 10' broad jump while also posting a 4.72 40-yard dash and a 4.88 shuttle drill. That translated well to the rest of the camp, where he showed solid downhill speed in 1v1s by getting behind defenders on deep routes and his agility by creating separation at the break point. Strong base and bend help him maintain a consistent pad level.

Bluefield's [player_tooltip player_id='1557268' first='Jazhaun' last='Brown'] was the youngest in a small RB group, but his skill set already stands out for his age. Jazhaun displayed his explosiveness and twitch with a recorded 8'6" broad jump and a 4.84 shuttle drill. He performed very well in position drills, demonstrating the ability to keep the ball secure while making sharp cuts, spins, and changes of direction. Solid vision for a freshman, showing he can identify open lanes.
