Happy New Year! Now on the other side of my holiday break, it's time to really dive into these position groups. It's a especailly exciting time for the Class of 2027, as they're about to get more eyes on them than ever before. Soon, D2 and D3 programs will turn the page from primarily recruiting 2026 to 2027, while the D1s and their committed recruiting staff will be doing their homework on all classes. This article includes five defensive linemen who interest me this offseason. I expect all of these prospects to, at the very least, earn attention from colleges in the coming months.

This will be an incredibly interesting offseason for Cash. Back in September, Miami (OH) sent out an offer. Since then, I have no doubt that other MAC schools have done their homework. Soon, D2s and D3s will be full-swing into recruiting 2027s, and Cash will undoubebly be on recruiting boards.

Cash has the height and skillset to be a great player at the next level. He's always been tall and lengthy. Over the past year, he's taken a leap in terms of skill. Cash has noticeably improved everything from his getoff, band, and hands. Generally, he's quicker and more confident. Still, there's room for Cash to grow into his frame. There are other question marks, but he's actually turned into a far more intriguing prospect in the past few months.

Coming off of an all-league season, I could see Marcus earning college attention this offseason.

Turn on his highlight tape, and Marcus' biggest strength quickly becomes clear. There are several instances where Marcus fires off the ball incredibly quickly, blowing by offensive linemen and earning free rides into the backfield. Additionally, Marcus has proven to have a wide tackle radius, and he generally reads the opposing offense well when he's unblocked. Though there are a few question marks that will be answered this offseason. First and foremost, Marcus sometimes has trouble moving his feet through every rep, and his pad level can be improved. In short, he's susceptible to getting flat-footed, and he needs to learn how to better use his hands while keeping his feet moving. Still, I really like his getoff, power, and size.

Max has been a very important part of this Niles program for a while now. Back in the 2024 postseason, Max stood out to me as a no-nonsense, high-effort two-way player. Offensively, he served as an excellent blocking tight end. Defensively, he was a high-motor defensive lineman.

His 2025 tape shows much of what I've come to expect from Max. Offensively, he has several highlights showcasing high effort through the whistle, particularly in regard to blocking. I really like how Max blocks through the whistle, oftentimes going off-script to find people to block late in the play. Defensively, he's a straight-up high-motor player. A good getoff, physical, and plays through the whistle. Not immensely polished, but he has the size and effort to develop at the next level. I hope colleges take note of Max's tape and consider sending out an offer.

I'm curious to see how colleges view Wyatt. This season, Wyatt had a handful of bright moments, as displayed by his highlight tape. Wyatt's size, length, and agility allowed him to quickly swim or rip past slower offensive linemen. He earned a good number of "free trips" into the backfield and did well when confronted with runs to his side of the field. Still, I do have questions regarding Wyatt's physicality, anchor, and bend. He's someone that I don't have a great handle on right now, but I do absolutely see the upside. I would expect D3s and D2s to take a look at Wyatt this offseason.

Drew is one of the most intriguing new O/D line prospects in Michigan. He likely projects as an offensive lineman in college, though D-Line is still absolutely in play.

Offensively, he performed quite well at our recent Prep Redzone camp. A great showing of balance, anchor, and bend on the offensive side of the ball. Defensively, he showcases similar bend & agility. If I remember correctly, Drew is still relatively new to football. Considering the way Drew competes right now, it's safe to say that he's barely scratched the surface regarding his high school upside. He moves incredibly well for his size, attends a phenomenal program that knows how to develop linemen, and he's already turning heads at camps. It's hard to imagine GLAIC programs not showing interest in Drew.
