The Class of 2028 rankings have been updated for winter, with major changes and new additions. Our rankings list has grown to nearly 200 prospects and another 200+ in the watchlist to bring you the most comprehensive source for sophomore prospects. The next position group I'm looking at is a wide receiver group that has already started to turn heads, but still has several hidden gems ready to make their names known.

Sioux City East's [player_tooltip player_id='1650312' first='Isaiah' last='Grant'] is one of the top overall risers in this update after a massive breakout sophomore season. Isaiah led the Black Raiders in receiving with 47 catches for 734 yards and eight receiving touchdowns. Isaiah is a dynamic receiver who excels at creating separation and can be moved across the formation to capitalize on mismatches. Grant is a smooth route runner who can fire off the line, build speed through the stem, and is quick out of his breaks. Great hands at the catch point with the strength to hold on through contact. Grant is also great after the catch with the shiftiness to make defenders whiff in the open field and speed to breakaway from defenses. He has a great size at 6'2" and 185 pounds, with the length to maximize his catch radius. Isaiah has already received offers from Kansas and Iowa State, with more likely to follow soon.

Coming off an impressive sophomore season, Centerville's [player_tooltip player_id='1601592' first='Abram' last='Decena'] looks primed to have an even bigger year in 2026. As a sophomore, Abram tied for the team lead in receptions with 44 and turned those into 771 yards and 11 touchdowns. Abram is another receiver who can be moved around depending on matchups and route concepts, but ultimately, I think he would be a great slot receiver at the next level. He is very shifty with his route running and has a sixth sense for finding the soft spots in coverage. Even with safety help over top, Decena has shown the speed to still get past secondary help and spring free for a deep ball. Great ball tracking and hands at the catch point. With a quarter of his receptions resulting in touchdowns, Abram is not a player you can take your eyes off, as he will make you pay.

West Lyon's [player_tooltip player_id='2050045' first='Jaxton' last='DeJong'] is an interesting prospect with offensive versatility that should draw in creative offensive coordinators. Jaxton ended his sophomore campaign with 288 rushing yards, 102 receiving yards, seven rushing touchdowns, and two receiving touchdowns. Jaxton projects best as an outside/x-receiver who can use his lengthy 6'5" and 185-pound frame to win matchups on the perimeter and be your go-to jump ball receiver. Jaxton does a great job elevating over defenders to catch the ball at its high point. Considering he's a bigger receiver, DeJong's route running is also an underrated aspect of his game, as he's shown he can create some separation. Very useful redzone target. The Wildcats made sure to add DeJong as an extension of the run game with his effectiveness on sweeps and other rushing attempts. He is good with space in front of him, showing he can pick up yardage after the catch or as a runner.

The Black Raiders should have one of the more explosive receiving cores next season, with two top 50 sophomore prospects in Grant (mentioned earlier) and [player_tooltip player_id='1942271' first='Tanner' last='Boonstra']. In his first season at SC East, Tanner hauled in 36 receptions for 472 yards and five receiving touchdowns. My biggest takeaway from Tanner's tape was that you just need to find ways to get the ball in his hands. He can attack all levels of the field with a solid route tree, has the speed to take the top off a defense, can work the middle of the field, or can take quick screens for big gains. Boonstra is also very twitchy in the open field, making him a threat to shake off defenders and tack on some serious YAC. Good separation, can find weak spots in coverage, and is willing to work his way to the ball.

Whoever takes over at QB for Mount Vernon can rest easy knowing they'll have sophomore breakout receiver [player_tooltip player_id='1884963' first='Holden' last='Hlavacek'] to throw to. Holden was very productive as a sophomore with 36 receptions for 662 yards and eight touchdowns. Holden is a player who could end up receiving looks at DB or receiver, but I think he projects best as a receiver, where he really impressed with his hands. Holden is someone I see as a "chain mover," who can be a possession-type receiver who is reliable at getting open near the sticks and making the catch when needed. He doesn't seem to be shaken by DBs attempting to jam him and often gets past them cleanly. Great hands and concentration at the catch.
