It was a very tough choice for our 2A player of the year but in the end, I felt that Peete warranted this honor after a strong senior year that helped push his Bulldogs team to a region title and a semifinal playoff finish. This West Tennessee back was a workhorse this Fall where Peete ran for 1,697 yards and 30 touchdowns while averaging 9.1 yards per carry. The Bulldogs senior contributed in the pass game and on defense as well where he produced 81 tackles with 16 of them for loss. Peete was not only a high producer for his Bulldogs team but a leader, a warrior that rarely came off the field and did anything asked of him to help his squad win ball games.

Leading his team to a 12-1 record and a region title, Young takes home our offensive player of the year after a stellar junior campaign that saw him produce over 3,000 yards of total offense. This Mid-Tennessee signal caller has done nothing but produce at a high level ever since he stepped onto the field for the Indians with his best season yet coming this Fall. Being a team leader behind center, Young generated a big junior year where he had 2,656 yards passing with 24 touchdowns while also adding 532 yards rushing and another 9 scores. Young will be back next year to lead another Indians team towards the 2A title while also competing for Mr. Football and potentially our class player of the year.

Nobody else on the Class 2A level has been as disruptive over the past few seasons than this Chattanooga area defender that once again led his classification in sacks. Martin was highly productive this Fall season where he generated 89 total tackles with 27.5 of them for loss along with a staggering 19 sacks. The Warriors defender also forced four fumbles while producing 524 yards rushing and 8 touchdowns on offense. If this guy was three inches taller, he would be all over the college radar because Martin is nearly unblockable with one of the best motors in the state. Whoever lands this guy will be getting a competitor that has a nose for the football.

O-Line Unit of the Year

East Robertson Indians (Notable Players: Kanye Prince, [player_tooltip player_id='1738226' first='Bryson' last='Shreeve'], [player_tooltip player_id='1263300' first='Austin' last='Pilkerton'])

- The Indians had one of the more balanced offenses on the 2A level for the 2025 season and a lot of that was due to the play up front from their offensive line. Led by All-State selections in Prince and Shreeve, the Indians front five played consistent ball from beginning to end that helped pave the way for high producing skill players. The O-line did a good job of protecting Young and allowing him to produce over 3,000 yards of total offense, which helped him get the ball to [player_tooltip player_id='1630972' first='Cade' last='Brooks'], who produced a thousand yard receiving year. They also opened holes for Caleb McNeil and their run game as he generated a 1,000 yard season. This O-line unit was superb this year and was a big factor behind their 12 win season.

Class 2A Coach of the Year

Eric Swenson - Huntingdon

- Swenson did a marvelous job this Fall in forming together a small roster and leading them towards a Class 2A state championship, the Mustangs first since 2003. Nobody had Huntingdon on their bingo card at the beginning of the year as contenders for the state title but they proved worthy as they went 14-1 overall with several impressive wins along the way. The Mustangs had a strong senior class this season that competed at a high level each and every week while receiving strong contributions from several underclassmen. Coach Swenson and his staff did a great job of developing their roster and getting everybody to play as “one” and at a championship level. His work towards putting a winning product on the field is of great credit to him and his motivational factors that bleed into his team.

Class 2A Positional Awards

(QB POTY) [player_tooltip player_id='2085661' first='Andrew' last='Johnson'] - Fairley: Johnson was in strong consideration for offensive player of the year after yet another strong showing throughout his senior year. This Memphis area prospect had a clean, efficient season where he threw for 2,306 yards and 35 touchdowns while completing nearly 70 percent of his passes. His poise and precision passing along with his leadership were big reasons behind the Bulldogs region title season.

(RB POTY) [player_tooltip player_id='1103499' first='Drew' last='Ray'] - Lewis Co.: A two-way performer for his Panthers team, Ray was unstoppable this season as he produced 1,642 yards with 32 touchdowns while averaging 7.7 yards per carry as the team's top offensive player. This Mid-Tennessee product is a hidden gem that boosted his stock this Fall at running back but Ray has the potential to excel at linebacker as well. The way he ran this year certainly shows the Panthers senior capable of handling the ball on offense.

(WR POTY) [player_tooltip player_id='1611591' first='Lane' last='Cope'] - Eagleton: This senior wideout had his best season of his career where he led the 2A level in all three receiving categories from receptions to yards and touchdowns. Cope was a sure fire number one guy for his Royals offense where he produced 69 receptions for 1,336 yards and 19 touchdowns for his senior season. Cope was highly dependable this season as he constantly found to get open then generate yards after catch due to his elusive movements.

(OL POTY) Kanye Prince - East Robertson: Everything starts up front for an offense to be successful and the Indians had a banner year with Prince leading the way from his center position. East Robertson had their best statistical season in four years and a lot of that was due to Prince and the Indians offensive line. This senior two-way lineman didn't allow a sack all year and did consistent work in opening up the middle for the run game. His work this year on both sides of the ball certainly helped his college stock.

(DL POTY) [player_tooltip player_id='2085663' first='Taylin' last='Strayhorn'] - Huntingdon ‘27: Strayhorn had his coming out party this Fall season where he was a key piece up front for one of the better defenses on the 2A level. This junior defensive tackle was highly productive as he produced 70 total tackles on the season with 26 of them for loss and 12 sacks while anchoring the middle against the run. This guy was a force up front that opposing O-line's had a hard time dealing with and keeping out of the backfield.

(LB POTY) [player_tooltip player_id='1086160' first='Gavin' last='Gray'] - Huntingdon ‘28: This sophomore linebacker became a revelation this year as he came out of nowhere to be a force from the middle that led his Mustangs defense in tackles. Gray produced a high count of 154 total tackles this year with 28 of them for loss while also generating 8 sacks. The Mustangs defender was a tackling machine that consistently found the football. He also played in the opponents backfield all year while generating a pass rush as well.

(DB POTY) [player_tooltip player_id='1704501' first='Kylan' last='Simmons'] - Memp. Biz. Acad. ‘29: How can you make a bigger impression for your first year of high school football other than leading the 2A classification with 9 interceptions. Simmons was an absolute ball hawk that displayed outstanding athleticism, instincts and football intelligence throughout the 2025 season. If the Execs freshman didn't pick it off, he knocked it away with 13 passes defended. He occasionally made plays against the run with as well 3 tackles for loss and two forced fumbles.

(ATH POTY) [player_tooltip player_id='2085665' first='Lane' last='Parker'] - Happy Valley ‘27: The Warriors had one of their best football years in school history with Parker being a major factor in their 11 win season. This junior two-way prospect was a playmaker that consistently created action on a week to week basis both rushing the ball and picking off passes in the secondary. Parker generated 906 yards rushing with 13 touchdowns this year while on defense he produced 102 tackles, 9 of them for loss, 3 sacks and 6 interceptions.
