Biggest surprise

No big surprises in Division-II Non-Select on Thanksgiving week with all four home teams winning. The biggest surprise overall might be four of the top five seeds advancing to the semifinals in a bracket that is often the one marked by the most parity.

Semifinalists' (recent) history

No. 1 North DeSoto has made three semifinals in the past four years and is aiming to get back over the hump and into the Superdome for the first time since 2022.

No. 2 Iowa has now made the semifinals for the third time in four years, its first three trips in program history.

No. 3 Belle Chasse is back in the semifinals for the first time since its 2008 state-title run.

Matchups to watch

North DeSoto's college-bound offensive backfield, quarterback [player_tooltip player_id='401978' first='Luke' last='Delafield'] (Northwestern State) and running back [player_tooltip player_id='1345167' first='Kenny' last='Thomas'] (Louisiana Tech), and Plaquemine safety [player_tooltip player_id='1238188' first='Roderick' last='Bingham'], who signed Wednesday with Louisiana (Lafayette) are three of the highest-profile prospects remaining in the bracket. The Griffins with Delafield, Thomas, junior tight end [player_tooltip player_id='422750' first='Miller' last='Warren'] and company have been one of the state's most explosive offenses. And while the Green Devils, while replacing a prolific 2025 quarterback-running back duo, have put together an impressive offensive season as well with juniors [player_tooltip player_id='1801266' first='Brennan' last='Miles'] and [player_tooltip player_id='1801271' first='Spencer' last='Collins'] filling those shoes and [player_tooltip player_id='1614578' first='John' last='Walker V'], Raiance Williby, [player_tooltip player_id='922576' first='Dajon' last='Beloney'] on the outside.

Overall storyline

Division-II Non-Select has been as wide-open in recent years as any of Louisiana's eight brackets, and this year will mark some notable history for any program that comes out on top from a potential first-ever title for North DeSoto, Iowa or Plaquemine or the first since 2008 for Belle Chasse. North DeSoto and Iowa have in particular been knocking at the door, and Plaquemine is now back in the semifinals for the second straight year. Belle Chasse is meanwhile on its deepest run since that last championship.
